Ducks Ltd Share Train Full of Gasoline
It’s crazy to think of the meteoric rise of Ducks Ltd; I mean just a few years they were “unlimited” in their duck quotient! This new single holds tight to some of their earliest stylings, using a thumping beat and infectious guitar licks to lead you into the core of the song. But, that’s sort of where they’ve grown; opening the track into a bit more of a punchy bit of pop rock, coated in these atmospheric nods to their dreamier beginnings. As they prepare Harm’s Way, its clear that they’ve pushed their indiepop tendencies to the background, hoping we can all latch onto their bopping grooves from here on out. I’m in, and I’ll be looking forward to the LP when it drops on February 9th via Carpark Records.

I was checking in on one of my favorite French labels,

I’ve been covering Nacho Cano’s work for a really long time on this site, so it only seems fitting that I jump back in on this track he dropped just before the New Year under his
A lot of folks usually run the New Year with resolutions and lists of goals; I think on my end, I tend to write about my feelings and shit, which usually requires a good solid score. Today, I’ve been jamming this trippy bit of post-rock from CR&M. Admittedly, I don’t know much about the band, as they don’t even have a site or the like, but this track reminds me of that sort of atmospheric post rock meets IDM style popularized by the likes of Boards of Canada and such. It allows plenty of space for your brain to roam and wonder, yet it’s tightly wound, so you can feel the natural push and pull of tension that runs throughout. New year, new me, new song.
We covered a lot of ground in 2023, or so I like to think. And, while we were able to look back with our end of year coverage, Oakland label
There are still a few bands left dropping tunes for the world to enjoy up until the Holiday weekend, and I’m grateful
Unfortunately, this is probably the last of Last Week’s Jams for 2023. Not because I don’t want to write about new tunes, but because, for some reason, folks just stop putting out music and let the world dwindle to a compilation of year-end lists. But, last week we still had tons of tunes to cover, with a whole lot of Austin represented. We revisited Fantastic Purple Spots, plus had brand new stuff from Big Bill, the Infinites and Fading Yellow. Got a bonus with one more Maureens track, which might be my favorite on their latest LP, and a fresh Club 8 hit that came out of nowhere. If you’re just looking for a playlist of new music, why not start here.
