Friko Share Where We’ve Been

I don’t know what to think about Friko, in terms of the classic genre pigeonholing we do on these here blog pages. If you ask me, that sets the band up for something exceptional, especially when you hear their latest track from the forthcoming Where We’ve Been We Go From Here. Initially, you’re greeted by this fragility, this openness that works ornate guitar lines over a rolling hill of drum work; it’s careful in its presentation, allowing you to sink into your chair as the track unfolds. You can hear the song’s tension build beneath Bailey’s drumming, erupting around the 1:40 mark, for just a split second. Having built you up, they settle back into the groove, waiting to hit you with joyous eruption of noise that carries you on its shoulders into the tune’s ending. ATO Records releases the new LP on February 16th.

Flight Mode Share Surprised At All

After the determined success of their Tx 98 EP, we expected big things from Oslo’s Flight Mode, especially after they signed up with Tiny Engines for the release of their new LP. Personally, I love how this new track shows the band’s evolution over the past few years; things began in a very 90s emo-centric realm, but they’ve moved into a more progressive pop rock outfit, albeit one that still adheres to some of the structural moments in that early emo movement. I mean, just check out the chorus on this tune, filled with melody, twisting in a bit of a sharp edge to add that perfect punch as the song explodes through your ears. The Three Times will be officially out on February 2nd!

Snailosaur Share Darkness + Release Talk Therapy

If you’re going to drop in a classic post rock style jam, what better way to follow that up than with a nice bit of classic indie rock sounds, a la Snailosaur. The band just released a new record titled Talk Therapy, and I hope this tune can turn you onto their work, as it’s the perfect exemplar of the LP’s style. Just imagine Bill Callahan turning Smog into something of a kind of rock tour de force, taking his introspective work and allowing it to unfold in the realm of quietloudquiet; it’s personal and explosive and I absolutely stomp around for a minute wailing on my air guitar as the tune rung out. Get you a taste.

Dead Bandit Share Peel Me An Orange

Before pressing play, just stop. Take a breath. Clear your mind for a moment and prepare yourself for Dead Bandit. For nearly two minutes, you get to go on an aural journey, as the duo construct this little sound collage that warbles and warps the edges of your mind. Just as you’ve completely begun to drift, drums roll in and cymbal work pulls you back towards the song’s center. Bits of guitar fade in and out of your conscience as washes of atmosphere circle your ears before everything fades back into obscurity. Quindi will release Memory Thirteen on Ferbruary 9th.

Tractor Beam Share Fresh Single

Having just released a great LP last summer, Vancouver’s Tractor Beam are ready to drop in with a fresh EP of new music. There’s something about the band’s that always feels John K Samson adjacent, yet there exists this light-hearted nature that I continue to find endearing. For instance, I love the light backing vocals and the dueling guitar work that courses through this new one. You won’t find studio magic or anything other than old-fashioned sincerity, and in that, the band execute so well you’ll just press play over and over again. Early Reflections is out this Friday!

While it may have only been a four day week in terms of work, we made sure we made the best of it for you, bringing you a slew of hot indie rock bangers. Slumberland had a great week, dropping new music from Umbrellas, and introducing us to Torrey too! We were stoked to share a new video from the BVs as well, flipping their style a bit to tease you with what’s in store going forward. Some Texas love for Infinites and Alien Eyelid was a must, with an added bonus being that our friends in Pale Lights dropped a compilation of rarities and singles on Friday. Alien Eyelid Share Brand New 7″

If you happened to stumble upon my favorite albums of last year, then you would have hopefully noticed that Alien Eyelid‘s Bronze Star made the cut; they return today with a brand new 7″ that you’re going to want to grab right away. “I Didn’t Mean To” is a country twanger, and I swear that the tune’s built around the chorus melody from Four Non Blondes hit “What’s Up.” An emphatic boogie breaks out about a minute into the tune, putting the musicianship on full display. “Not Ready Yet” brings about a nice ballad vibe with guitar sliding between the dual vocal work, occasionally dropping in a barroom stomp to provide movement for the listener. Both these stellar tunes can be found on the new 7″, which you can order today by jumping over to Tall Texan Records.

Dancer Announce Debut LP on Meritorio Records

If you tinker around with the Glasgow music scene, the members of Dancer should be obvious, as it has folks from bands like Robert Sotelo and Nightshift, among others, meaning the band already comes in with built in promise. In a nod towards Heath Ledger, they’ve titled their debut 10 Songs I Hate About You, and now shared a new single to entice you to listen. Musically, they’re crafting a style that’s not too far off from their name, but sort of in an anti-dance fashion; the bass line walks you back and forth, sort of like a one-foot-two-foot hopscotch shuffle. Gemma Fleet’s voice hits sharply, as musical elements pulse in and out of your speaker behind the vocals, creating this mesmerizing bit of anti-pop. Really been looking forward to hearing the band’s full length; it drops via Meritorio Records on March 15th.

Canalss Share $$$ Eyes Single

Florida’s Canalss have graced these pages from time to time over the last year, and with their debut LP on the horizon with Zerowell Records, I’m really stoked to share their latest single below. In a lot of ways, it sounds like the world of Bright Eyes circa Every Day and Every Night, but spun through the lens of the legend we call “Florida-man.” It’s got a bit of absurdity and outsider syndrome, but there’s something about the magic within the confines of it all that draws you into the intimate little corners of the song where secrets are revealed. If you’ve dug on anything from Coma Cinema to Elf Power to Conor Oberst, you’re going to really fall in love below. Done Sleeping is out March 1st.

Veronicavon Share Party Single

Supreme Billy Madison fans Veronicavon are readying their forthcoming LP, Deep End, with the latest single prepped to ease you into your Friday listening routine. The tune has a steady march to it, carefully utilizing a continuous groove that locks you into the track as you turn the volume up. Naturally, there’s a building tension throughout the song, but, Xuan Nguyen’s vocals allow the track to hang in a stationary setting, focusing on the wordplay and the vibe of what they’re trying to get you to enjoy. It’s low key in the best way, so look for Deep End to drop on February 9th via Born Losers.
