Lavasocks Records Announce Adult Books LP

Lately I’ve just been super overwhelmed by tons of things, so I’ve definitely traveled down the pop punk days of my youth, with no shame, mind you. Today, in a day where everything feels shattered for a teacher, Texan, father, this song’s just hitting the right notes. It feels like the sort of tune I’ll get stuck in my head, and just take a drive to scream it at the top of my lungs. Adult School have the hooks and the energy, and sometimes, that’s all you’re looking for in a good pop punk jam. They’ll drop their No Party LP this July via Lavasock Records.

Dehd Share Final Single from Blue Skies

This Friday, Dehd drop that new album, Blue Skies. I’ve been pretty stoked with the band’s development, as the song’s just feel more complete, more textured. It’s clear just how much the band has put into the record, from the video work to the construction, so I won’t be surprised if the whole LP is just an absolute knockout from start to finish. Below is the final single from the record, and the performance from Emily should put everyone on notice that the band mean business. Blue Skies drops Friday via Fat Opossum.

I’m a big Tony Molina fan, as the site would indicate. Yesterday we got news of a new LP, which seems to have almost sold out already. Tony’s been working at writing great short pop songs, and this go round, it sounds like he’s keeping the fuzz right in the tunes, as you can tell by the guitar work. His new LP In the Fade is dropping via Run for Cover Records on August 12.

R.E. Seraphin Shares Big Break

While I’m sure we’d all welcome a second EP just like R.E. Seraphin‘s last one, A Room Forever, it seems that he’s pushing himself to get beyond the sound of his peers, even going so far as to look to include “Journey-style solos” in his new effort. For me, despite pushing to break loose from the confines of lo-fi, Mr. Seraphin doesn’t lose any of the subtleties that guarantee the joy of listening to his work. On this new single, you get the textured layering of guitar sounds, with some staking claim to that aforementioned bravado, while the other drives the tune’s rhythm forward. His vocals get some backing throughout too, adding another careful layer of harmony and charm to the mix; it’s clear he’s really maximizing his talents. His new Swingshift EP is out Friday via Mt. St. Mtn./Dandy Boy/Tear Jerk/Safe Suburban Home.

Ever listen to a song and you’re drawn in, but you’re not sure why? Well, that’s what happened as I watched this Worthitpurchase video, drawn in by the child-like imagery and the warmth of the guitar strum. Omar Akrouche’s voice has this haunting draw to it too, like some magical tractor beam drawing you into the fragility. While the song feels innocent and sparse, the band gradually layer the tune going forward, increasing the tension that allows for the group to create their own melodic cacophony near the tune’s end. If you’re into it, the group release Truthtelling, their new LP, this coming August via Anxiety Blanket.

Holy Coves Drop Grey Single

There was something immediately gratifying about the sound of the new Holy Coves single; the squall of light feedback working over a steady bit of rim shots, opening the way for this wash of guitar noise to hit hard. As the song builds, the Welsh outfit slowly starts to apply a heavier hand, though they never entirely stray from the tasty pop center, with Scott Marsden’s voice bringing in the huge wave of emotion. Interestingly, the Welsh bunch got a little tie to Texas, linking up with local Erik Wofford to handle the mixing and mastering of the track, which is brought to us courtesy of Yr Wyddfa Records.

Mamalarky Share You Know I Know Video

Mamalarky have been on a journey since their earliest days in Austin, moving about the country in hopes of finding the right fit for their sound; they’ve now settled in Georgia for the time being, ready to work on the follow-up to their debut. This tune alludes to their time in Austin, with Livvy commenting on how Austin “gave us the proper nutrients to do what we’re doing now.” And, we couldn’t be prouder. I love the way the guitar unleashes here, echoing through your speakers, with the production giving it just enough muddiness to balance out with the group’s natural pop hooks. Hopefully we get more from the band now that they’re settled in their new home.

The Shivas Share Doom Revolver

I’m a big Shivas stan over here, though admittedly I’m still waiting for them to recreate the joy of “You Make Me Wanna Die.” Today, the band drop a fresh new burner for Suicide Squeeze‘s Single Series, Pinks and Purples. Slow and jammy, the song evolves into this psychedelic stomp of cool. The maniacal guitars set you up, but eventually fade into this mellower groove where the band’s pop sensibility unfolds with vocal harmonies. But, stick around long enough and they turn the slow burn into a riotous affair around the 1:40 mark; this is just many of the twist and turns the band are taking you on in these four minutes.

Last Week’s Jams, Today (5.16 – 5.20)

It’s that time of the week friends, where you get to revisit all the stuff we covered last week, mostly because we’re too lazy to do it on a Friday. We had a lot of super rad stuff, with fresh tunes from the likes of Living Hour, Interior Geometry and Lost Film. Plus, with Liars reissue treatment, I get a chance to post an old school Liars jam, so I was stoked there. Plus, our friend Nick Rad documented his fun at the Turnstile show, so I included a jam in here too, because why the heck not?! Happy Monday!

Green/Blue Share In Lies + Prep Paper Thin

Shout out to my friend Joe for pushing me to jam to this new album from Green/Blue; it’s an album that’s right in my wheelhouse for the current post-punk revisiting. The driving nature of this song puts some pace into it, though it’s not quite as frantic, allowing for the vocals to kind of set up the mood. In contrast to the swirling sound around, the vocal harmonizing creates this sweet pop center; it’s like a post-punk tootsie pop, and it only takes a few licks to immerse yourself in the band’s sound. If you’re into this ripper of a tune, get ready for Paper Thin, which is dropping on Jun 10th via Feel It Records.
