An Interesting Number from Ilu
There’s not too much information out on Ilu other than Welsh lineage. But, rest assured, spend any time with the track below and you’ll be both pleased and intrigued. The opening moments have this almost Germanic-electronica element…you know propulsive beat and sterile atmosphere. Then suddenly these vocals float in all angelic and your’e transfixed by an almost psychedelic experience with guitars moving beneath the electronic wash that pre-existed. It walks a fine line between the two genres throughout, almost tip-toeing between the two so as not of offend everyone…but also to draw everyone into their sound. As of now, this is just their single…dropping August 3rd via Libertino.

It’s only been a few months since the debut from Emma Russack & Lachlan Denton, but they must have enjoyed the partnership quite a bit, as they already have a second record waiting for you. This picks up right where one would expect, though Lachlan takes the lead here on this number; he’s got this warm delivery that I always find intoxicating. Emma adds her voice to the chorus, proving the perfect accompaniment. I love how these two just sit in this homeostatic pop wonder world, not pushing anything to the extremes, only holding on to their pop penmanship. Keep on Trying is out on July 18th via
Out of nowhere,
Just the other day I was rambling on with Internet fans about the best bands coming out of Australia/New Zealand these last few years…and I know for a fact that
Perhaps the greatest thing about running this site are all the obscure labels that have reached out that have either become friends or shown me the way to new music. Spain’s
While a great deal of what I’ve run lately has been on the poppier side of things, I’ve been mentally preparing for some good old rock n’ roll with Jawbreaker this Friday. So, it’s with great pleasure that I share this rad new rocker from Austin’s
Summer time brings Summer Magic! Summer Magic brings bright hook-laden pop tunes! I love exclamation points! So this song snuck into my head and it won’t leave. There’s something nostalgic that it brings up, especially when the vocals change slightly during the chorus…feels familiar like great pop songs do. Something from the snare work to the melody definitely recalls summer time, so the name’s definitely apt. This song will feature on the new album Sharks and Other Dangers, which will be available to the masses on August 31st. Go on, be a pop fan.
Not but more than a few weeks removed from their last hit,
Sometimes I think Ty Segall is too prolific for his own good, but when he’s joining up with Tim Presley aka White Fence, I can definitely get behind that. This track almost sounds like it’s acoustic punk filled with furious strumming, but you can hear the influence of Presley, particularly in the very post-punk yelps and the delivery of the first chorus. Don’t worry, you get a Ty-esque solo in the last seconds of the song, just to whet your appetite. Together, Ty Segall and White Fence will release Joy on July 20th via
