A Wonderful Release Hour a Night

If you tend to listen to a ton of new music you might occasionally find yourself much as I did when I first put on this track from A Wonderful, the songwriting project of Tim Wilson. I listened through a couple of times, and each time, I kept attaching myself to little notes in Wilson’s voice; I thought it sounded a bit like Dean Wareham (or maybe Doug Martsch), especially in moments where things get stretched out, offering this sort of magical ray of light on the horizon. Even in its simplicity, little humming moments and the hum of the guitar strings just keeps me fascinated, so I come back and find myself lost inside here. Little Champion Shares Suburbs + Drops New LP

Little Champion makes it easy to be a big sucker for a classic pop rock punch, especially when you listen to the slight jangling rocker below. To me, it’s somewhere between Math and Physics Club and POTUSA, as the tune embraces a bit of mundane life observations, with a quick hook that digs into you and refuses to let you go here. It’s a furious little blast of joy that you’ll want to put in your pocket and carry away with you all day. The new record, Peaks Island and Other Places is chock full of hooks and pop moments that will keep you smiling as you circle back to press play over and over; it’s available to stream in full HERE.

Alien Boy Drop I Broke My World Video

Friday will see the release of the new Alien Boy, and it’s generating a lot of buzz across the Interwebs. When this song kicks off, there’s this smattering of swirling guitars and thundering drums, setting the tone for this huge wall of beautiful noise, leaving just enough space for the vocals to cruise through coolly. The group’s aspirations were to create something akin to great classic pop rock records, such as those from the early years of Smashing Pumpkins; they look to take that immediacy and push it to the max, cranking noise that you can revisit time and time again. Check the latest video out, and grab You Wanna Fade this Friday via Get Better Records.

Brideshead Release The Light I’m Running To Single

Just a bit ago we were fortunate to share the news of Brideshead circling back with a brand new LP, and today there’s another new ditty that I hope you’ll really love. At times, the track connects with these really sharp jangles, creating this springy step that has your toes tapping and your body swaying. While those charms are classic, there’s also this more indie rock centric vibe in the chorus that takes the group’s melodic tendencies to the next level. It’s a nice little mixture of styles, sprinkling in the group’s ability to charm from start to finish. You Are the Light will be out on May 23rd via Shelflife.

Monthly Club 8 Single Post

Driving bedroom pop is my cup of tea, and it’s best if its served by Swedish outfit Club 8, who drop a tune a month that keeps their name forever on my mind. This track wastes no time at all, hitting with this synthetic stomp from the snares and bubbling bass groove that just punches the gas. Soft vocals dominate the verses, and while I love that aspect, the hurried pick-up that drives the chorus is really special, lifting the song with this slight little switch of directions, almost reaching anthemic heights as the vocals seem to overlap one another. Hopefully they try to top this one for next month, as this might be one of their finest pieces to date.

March Dove Share Skyfalling Single

When this single from Polish bunch March Dove made its way over, I was captured by the growl of the guitar; it felt like it had its own story to tell, so when the vocals came in atop, the track sort of just gripped me. I thought they could have happily stayed in the dream pop realm, albeit the darker side, but they opted to embrace the shoegaze with this forceful blast of noise. The song recedes momentarily, though the group bring it all back, tackling noisier territory that echoes throughout as the song carries on, lost in its own striking world.

Last Week’s Jams (4.28 – 5.2)

One third of the year is behind us now, and so we’re getting towards that moment when arbitrary best of 2025 lists began to pop up, but we’re keeping our eyes on the prize, focusing on new music, however it comes. There were some definite bonus tunes coming our way, like new Stereolab, as they prep for their forthcoming LP. Slumberland continued their great 2025 by announcing a new Autocamper LP (along with Safe Suburban Home). Personally, I was really excited to hear that Far Caspian has a new one on the way, as I loved the single shared this week. Perennial favorite acts also dropped new singles, so you’ll hear ditties from The High Water Marks, the Beths, Provoker and the Serfs. Give a little listen and start making your own mid-year list!

Show Review: Austin Psych Fest

The group over at Levitation have been dominating the Austin landscape with incredible lineups for nearly two decades, and we were fortunate to be on-hand this year at The Far Out Lounge. The line-up did not have a single weak spot, and the weather was actually pretty great, all things considered (warm but not hot!). Take a jump below and read some thoughts on the festival and the acts on hand. Special thanks to Michael Maly for his photography gifts. Check more of his work HERE.

Grant Pavol Announces Left That Party

As things have gone lately, Grant Pavol has had a pretty busy schedule, writing and working with Shamir. But, he’s found the time to work on his stuff too, which is why we’re really stoked to hear another track from the forthcoming Left That Party EP. In the press release, it makes a nod to both Alex Chilton and Tony Molina, and you can certainly hear where the Molina-esque moments cruise through this delight. Pavol embraces a softness in his own voice, while the power of the guitars taking on these dreamy alternative vibes that coat the song in a melodic heaviness we know you’ll appreciate. The new EP will bring a much needed dose of pop rock your way on May 9th!

Caleb Nichols Releases Dark Age

I know that there are old music nerds throwing around names like Elliott Smith from time to time, and while I hate a good pigeonhole, I think that this new track from Caleb Nichols might just be too good not to make that comparison. At first, the recording brought me that early Smith intimacy; you can hear the fingers sliding across the strings, echoing as if you were sitting in a room with Nichols. Then, just absorb the dulcet vocal tones, but only for a moment, as he switches around the 44 second mark into a lighter whisper, almost straining to take us to more angelic territory…and all of that just before the 1 minute mark. His new LP, Stone Age is Back, will be out this October via Royal Oakie.
