New Parquet Courts Number

Come into work, and what do I find? A new Parquet Courts, with a slightly new sound…continuing on from their first single. This has a funky groove, including some old school percussive styles most often associated with dancehall. The accompanying video really ups the ante, displaying a band that seem to be having a great time out there. It’s probably going to throw folks for a huge loop once they hear it, but I completely respect that…no one wants to hear you make the same album again and again (ask the Strokes). You can grab the band’s new album, Wide Awake!, on May 18th via Rough Trade Records.

New Music from The Golden Dregs

While it’s a bit of a bummer that Art is Hard didn’t roll out their usual Singles Club this year, the good news is that their still going to be sharing their great tastes with other releases. One of the first to pop up on our radar is the debut LP from The Golden Dregs. Musically, the song feels like a runaway train; the drums and guitars have a driving feel to them that’s inescapable. When Ben’s vocals enter the picture, they’re the calming force that holds the song together, ensuring you’ve got something to sink your teeth into whilst feeling out of control. Exciting things are afoot here; look for Lafayette on May 25th.

Michael Rault Returns with New Album

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Michael Rault, but it’s good to see him back with new music, especially considering it’s a new LP! The first single has Rault throwing out these crazy guitar lines, seemingly walking up a musical staircase, right before he settles back into the natural groove of the track. I love how his voice seems to contrast the heavy stomp crafted by his guitar work; he reaches some notes that I’m pretty sure most of us couldn’t hit. Those out there looking for virtuosos surely will remark at some of Rault’s soloing in this tune, as one should. Look for the new LP, It’s a New Day Tonight, to drop on May 18th via Wick/Daptone. He’ll also be in town for that whole SXSW thing, if you’re around.

SXSW Interview: Baum

Baum just keeps releasing hit after hit after hit. This year, she’ll be bringing her pop stylings into Austin, ready to take over the town during SXSW. We caught up with her briefly to catch her thoughts on the festival; we’ve also got a few of those aforementioned hits below.

She’ll be playing on 3/14 @ Space 24 Twenty (2 PM), 3/14 @ Palm Door (7:30 PM) and 3/15 @ Sidewinder (8:10).

New Hit from Eternal Summers

We won’t shy away from our love for Eternal Summers, especially now that they’ve announced their new LP, Every Day It Feels Like I’m Dying. On their latest single, the backbone of the song works over synth guitar lines, with Nicole doing her thing atop the mix. But, what I really love is that they don’t settle for the bread-and-butter pop structures, spinning the song on its head by turning the track into a dreamier realm where vocals still dominate. Some bands just don’t make bad songs, and this is just one of those bands. Look for their new LP on May 4th via Nevado Music.

Mellow Tune from Harry Permezel

I was looking for something really chilled out and relaxed, and luckily this track from Harry Permezel caught my attention. It’s a pretty simple tune, stylistically, using strummed guitar and steady backing percussion to set the course. There’s some light textural additions popping in and out, but the core of the music really relies upon Peremezel’s softened vocal delivery. It’s patient and warm, inviting listeners to sit in with him as the song unfolds before their ears. It’s immediately familiar, yet something about it stands out, so I’ll be keeping an eye out for his new LP, Wax Man, which drops on May 4th via Muscle Beach Records.

Yesterday, the esteemed Austin Chronicle dropped a brand new track from Feverbones, and you can read their thoughts HERE. But, since we’re responsible for putting Dream Talk out into the world, it’s our obligation (and pleasure) to share the latest single with you. “Sight Inside” is a crunchy number, drawing influences from mathy-prog to folkier elements; I particularly dig the backing vocals in the tune. The album will hit stores and the digital platforms on April 13th. You can grab the pre-order HERE. They’ll also be playing a fine set over at the ATH vs SOTO Party this Sunday!

Premiere: Good Field Release Necessary Feeling Video

Last month, Austin’s Good Field released their third LP, Surface Tension, and we’re stoked to bring you the band’s brand new video for “Necessary Feeling.” Riffs ring out immediately, waiting for the drums to pound their way into the picture, as they do in this video. Singer Paul Price soon enters the picture, walking a line between croon and warble; he manages to pull in the reigns, stretching himself into the higher notes. The keyboard notes throughout provide some nice balance, polishing the rough edges ever so slightly to keep a certain pop sensibility. But, the song seems to come to a brief end just over 2.5 minutes, but give it a second, as the band comes back forcibly to leave their mark with one final punching run to the close.
