Brand New Omni Album Coming Soon

One of the band’s I’ve hyped for quite some time, and will continue to push, is Omni. They combine an arty bounce to post-punk, and this new single has them coming off as catchy as ever. It’s like they’ve taken the formula popularized by Parquet Courts and decided they could do it better…and I think they do (for my two cents). Little flourishes from the high-hat work to layered guitars really pack an extra lunch. It’s okay now to admit this is your new favorite band! Look for their brand new album Multi Task to hit stores on September 22nd via Trouble In Mind Records.

Hear a New Laucan Tune

Many times I’ve touched on the songwriting prowess of Laucan, but I’d really like to turn my attention to his voice this go round. There’s obviously something striking in its operatic tones, and it reminds me of the first time I heard Jeff Buckley…wondering how some of those notes could be hit so cleanly. This is a short one, with minimal production other than guitar strums and orchestral touches, but I think you get the picture: Laucan is worth your time. His debut LP FramesPerSecond comes out July 21st via Sunday Best.

Go See Basketball Shorts and Pollen Rx Tonight

Over at the Cheer Up Charlies this evening you’ll get a chance to catch two of the great acts on our little label, Basketball Shorts and Pollen Rx. Basketball Shorts are releasing a new 7″ featuring the killer catchy jam below, and Pollen Rx are a well-oiled machine after returning from tour. Plus, you get to see Rhett and Dean, as well as Break Time in the early part of the evening’s festivities. Come out and grab the new 7″ and maybe get one of those new cool Darren tank tops from the band as well! Let yourself live a little with a great Thursday night party.

Have You Met Hamjam

Members of two of my favorites, Methyl Ethyl and Pond have formed to create Hamjam, and the sounds they’ve crafted together are quite delightful. They’ve got that subdued pop vibe, casual in its delivery, infectious in every way. There’s a nice little tone switch for the chorus, aided by accenting piano and saxophone; these are smooth jams for pop fans with refined tastes. The band will be releasing their debut A/S/L? on August 11th via Bedroom Suck Records, adding to an already strong stable of Aussie acts!

Another Fuzzy Pop Gem from Last Leaves

Sometimes you can’t explain the hit cycle and why some of the more deserving bands don’t end up on the hype machine. For me, I’m personally putting some hype onto Last Leaves (a predominantly Lucksmiths super group). They’ve just released this stand alone single via Matinee Recordings, adding to the earlier hit from Matinee Idols Comp; it’s a fuzzy bit of beautiful guitar pop. Vocals have this gentleness, calm and warm, and layers of guitars work on top of each other, only barely fighting against another to create enough tension to seduce listeners. This song will featured on the group’s Other Towns Than Ours, which is slated to arrive early this fall. You can also see a video accompanying this new tune right HERE.

The Hayman Kupa Band Have Another One

I’m going out on a really short limb here, and I’m going to say that the duet album from The Hayman Kupa Band is going to spend a lot of time on my record player for the duration of this year. The two have some of the more distinctive voices this side of indiepop, and they trade such voices back and forth, until eventually they unite in unison. It’s a spectacular bit, and its quite possibly some of the purest pop I’ve heard in 2017. Pretty sure this might be my favorite musical thing going on at the moment, so I can’t wait for the LP to drop via Fika Recordings on July 21st.

Annabel Allum Streams New EP

I have a feeling that Annabel Allum will be a sensation within the next few years! I’ve already written about two singles, and still rate “Rich Backgrounds” as one of my favorite tracks of the last year. Today she’s streaming her brand new All That for What EP, which also includes two new singles. “Picture on Picture” is a stunning addition to her catalog, with her voice shining above the noise, while “Spit” has a more intimate showing from the singer. This should be your new favorite jam!

Brand New Cats of Transnistria

Cats of Transnistria are currently working on their second album, and while the work progresses, they’ve shared this tune as a peak at what’s to come. It’s an experiment in minimalist pop, offering little more than a single note and the powerful voice; it doesn’t need much more to carry the song’s natural beauty. As the track unfolds, tiny touches of strings and piano float in and out, creating a beautiful haunted atmosphere that will take you off into the ether. Looks like album number two is going to be pretty remarkable!

Indiepop from My Light Shines for You

What a great Friday it’s going to be now that we’ve got new music being offered up by Cloudberry Records; the label just announced this new 7″ from My Light Shines for You. The Chilean indiepoppers definitely know how to work those jangling riffs, then wrapping them up with sweet vocals…including some nice male/female accompaniment. It doesn’t last too long, so you’ll have to get your sugary fill before you press play and repeat. Look for the release to come your way this Fall via one of the finest labels in indiepop.

Austin’s Belcurve Drop Live Video + Show Tomorrow

There’s a great show going down tomorrow evening over at Cheer Up Charlies, which gives us the opportunity to drop this live video from Belcurve, who are one of several acts playing the venue. The video is the perfect portrayal of the band’s power, with Sarah Castro’s distinctive vocals dominating the front of the mix…clearly she’s got some range in those pipes! It’s a pretty strong performance from the rest of the band as well, crashing in unison to meet the rise and fall of Castro’s pitch-shifting.

You’ll be able to catch them at 11 on the Outside Stage, but be sure to show up early and stay late…the bill features The Reputations, Magic Rockers of TX, Loteria and our own Lochness Mobsters!
