Fresh Alasdair Roberts Track

arAlasdair Roberts has long been crafting folk tracks that tickle our fancy when it comes to traditional style tunes. “The Downward Road,” his latest single from his upcoming record, is no exception to this steady trend of beautiful music. As you’ll hear below, Roberts has packed just as much whimsy as serious craftsmanship into this tune–you’re greeted with a nice blend of fiddle, acoustic guitar and some wonky electric guitar. Of course you get Roberts’ gentle vocals as well, but then the chorus kicks it up a bit into a full on stomper of a track. Take a listen.

Pangswill be out February 24th via Drag City. Go preorder it here.

Lo-Fi Rocker From Chemtrails

chemtrails

London’s Chemtrails, if you haven’t already heard, are making waves with their debut EP which was just released last week. It’s an impressive first go, and it features the band’s high-energy lo-fi psych rock. The most recent single from that debut is “Golden Tombs,” the track below, and you’ll be hard pressed to find a track that packs more a punch in three minutes than it does. Immediately, you get these tightly wound guitars that blast their way into the track, and some gang vocals that are hazy and ferocious. Take a listen below, get pumped, and then go listen to the rest of Chemtrails’ EP over on their bandcamp page.

Dance Along With This New Video From Heat

heatOk, I’ll admit it, I can’t really say no to dreamy pop/rock… it’s my musical weakness, so forgive me if you’ve seen this elsewhere on the internets. Heat, out of Montreal, call themselves post-punk, but from this music video, “Lush,” it’s hard to not pick up on the dreamy new wave vibes that the band are puttingout. The track is exactly as its title suggests– overflowing with instrumentation that compliments and builds on itself. The guitar parts are interlocking and seamless, the synths chime in and out with lightness, percussion holds the groove in place, all while the vocals are hazy over the top of everything. Take a listen and watch below so you can dance through your Tuesday.

“Lush” is taken from the band’s upcoming debut, Overnight, which is out January 20th viaTopshelf Records.

More To Love From Tim Cohen

unnamed-6One of my most anticipated releases of 2017 is shaping up to be Tim Cohen‘s pure solo effort,Luck Man, which is due out, lucky for us, at the beginning of next year. We’ve already heard some great singles from the gentleman from this album, and now he’s given us another one with “Meat is Murder,” which reveals that this new album is going to be far from one dimensional. The last track we heard in “John Hughes” was a bouncy indie pop number, whereas this one, as its title suggests, is a bit darker than the last one. The guitars are a sharper, and yet lower in the mix, the percussion and bass combine for a low simmer, and Cohen’s vocals are deeper for the majority of the track. Take a listen and get as excited as I am for this new album, then go pre-order it here before its Jan. 20th release via Sinderlyn.

Elegant Folk From American Dreamer

14324314_1195097610535860_8877724612633255058_oIt’s been cloudy and dreary in Austin for the past week or so, but rumor has it that the clouds are going to break and we’re going to get back to Texas Fall/Winter–that is to say sunny and 70. I don’t know about you, but I like to match my listening choices with the weather, and this new track from American Dreamer is the perfect accompaniment to the sun coming out. “Open Your Eyes” is an orchestral folk gem that begs you to do just that; the song starts slow and washes you over with waves of strings and acoustic guitar that are will make you swoon. The vocals are breathy and delicate as the instrumentation, soft and welcoming as the track starts to warm up. All in all, it’s a gorgeous number and I’m going to be getting lost in it for the rest of the day at the very least. Take a listen.

Mild Rocker From Family Scraps

famscrapsIt’s possible you may know Matthew Johnson, the man behind the moniker of Family Scraps, from his work with The Hookworms and Suburban Home Studio. If you aren’t familiar with the gentleman’s work, take a listen to “Mistakes” below, which will acquaint you with his grunge meets alt-rock sound. The song seems a bit gritty and garage at first, but as it progresses the vocals lighten things up with their lush harmonies. Keep your ears ready and waiting for more from Family Scraps–looks like this 7″ is a precursor to a full length album.

“Mistakes” is taken off of theToo Pure 7,” which you order here.

Jangle Pop Bliss From The Artisans

1461701_717961474963707_3796667194911930857_nWe’ve all done it– wandered through the endless loophole of the internet until we find something so far from what we first started looking at that we have to take a step back and try to trace our steps back. This time around, my internet wanderings led me to this track from The Artisans, who are a four piece picking up speed somewhere ‘between the thick smog of Hartlepool and the bright lights of Newcastle.’ I can’t tell you much more about the band, but it seems as though this track below is some new material from the group. When you press play, what you’ll find in “The Ballad of Armley Jail,” is a twisting story of jangly indie pop, with cutting riffs, group vocals, and (wait for it) handclaps! Take a listen below and lend these folksyour ear.

Electro Pop From Kauf

10494945_822099034525696_4279130690826788121_oIt’s hard for me to get behind electronic music a lot of the time, but when I heard the latest from L.A.’s Kauf, I couldn’t help but dig it and share it with you all. “Pacify” is a single taken from Kauf’s upcoming debut LP, and it shows off the texture that this artist puts on the electro-pop genre. The song builds slowly, various elements gently and seamlessly fade in; there’s a whole lot going on at all times in the track, but never overwhelming you. You get a danceable rhythm and various builds, but there’s also those moments where you marvel at the well orchestrated combination of instruments. Sleek vocals with just enough reverb on them to fit in with the synths ride smoothly over the top of the mix. Overall, it’s a gorgeous track that you should take a listen to.

Regrowth will be out early next year. Keep your eyes and ears alert.

Surfy Indie Rock From Psychic Shakes

13938415_230312840702243_2574610887988297957_nThings are winding down in the music world as we near end of the year holidays and lists, so don’t hate on me too much for being slightly late to the party on this one. Psychic Shakes is your new favorite indie rock band…you just don’t know it yet. The solo project of Southampton’s Max McLellan, this act is just getting underway, but this new track, “Wasting Time,” shows that you should keep your ears peeled for anything from the gentleman. When you start the song you are greeted with a funky bass and percussive intro, but then those sharp guitars cut in and you have a hazy surf rock gem on your hands. Take a listen below.

Check Out Miracle Sweepstakes

miraclesweepsMiracle Sweepstakes, out of New York, are gaining attention from their latest single, “Rapture.” Rightly so– this track shows the band drawing together a wide base of sub-genres and uniting them into a tight package of bright indie rock. The song starts out and you pick up on the slightly fuzzy, slightly psych -y guitars, and then, about 45 seconds in, the band launches into grunge mode, with heavy, wall-of-sound noise rock. All the while, the vocals deal out a bit of attitude and balance out the heavier moments quite nicely. Take a listen below.

Turn Heel, their newest cassette release is out now via One Weird Trick. Go pick it up, or listen on their soundcloud page.
