Grunge Rocker From Honeyblood

13641310_1320494084647185_1046652868248833915_oGlasgow’s Honeyblood are coming around to releasing their second LP in alittle more than amonth, and just to build your anticipation for that album, they’ve given you a second single. “Sea Hearts” is a rambunctious rocker, which you can pick up on pretty much immediately after the fuzzy guitars sound off in the first few seconds of the song. The vocals are hazy and biting, matching the tone of the guitar, but it’s not too fuzzy or distorted to keep you from belting along with the group as they do some chants towards the end of the track. Take a listen.

Babes Never Die is out October 28th via FatCat Records.

Hillary Susz Gives You Epically Beautiful Folk

unnamedThere’s something to be said about a female singer/songwriter who breaks the norm in terms of vocal style. Hillary Susz, out of Boulder, has got that excitingly different sound, and one listen to this new track, “Make Me Make You,” will have you smitten with her folksy sound and ready to hear more from her. This epic track spans six minutes in length, and shows off that Susz is more than relying on her deep and rich vocals for intrigue. The guitar part is the very first thing that you hear on the song– delicate plucking that meanders for a bit before Susz charms in with her silky, almost jazz-singer-esque, vocals. Instantly, you’re captivated, but before too long this intrigue is doubled over by the quiet presence of cello, and then further captured later on by the change in tempo and change-over to a rock song. Take a listen and don’t miss out.

Yesterday’s News: Warpaint Share New Track

warpaintEveryone’s favorite ethereal girl band, Warpaint, are releasing a new album quite soon and the singles that they’ve released fromHeads Upare delightful and show the group heading in a groovier direction than we’ve heard from them on their first two albums. The first single, “New Song,” is an infectious pop track, while this new song “Whiteout” is a bit of a slower burning number that still packs a bit of a shimmy within. The lighter, overall poppier sound really suits the bands’ style– the sleek guitar riffs are juxtaposed nicely by the stark drums. Take a listen below and then make sure you are ready for the new album out September 23rd fromRough Trade Records;preorder it here.

Luke Roberts Nails Alt-Country

lrobertsA few weeks back, you may have heard this track from Luke Roberts from his upcoming record,Sunlit Cross, which is due out in just about a month, and I’m delighted to share that Roberts has released another track from that album that’s a perfect sample of alt-country. “Untitled Blues,” has got this mellow acoustic guitar partthat rolls through the track and Roberts’ vocals have got just enough twang on them to be considered some sort of country. Not to mention, the intermittent slide guitar part that joins the instrumentation adds that extra depth to the track that will set it apart from the rest of the songs that you hear today. Take a listen and don’t forget aboutSunlit Cross, which is out October 14th viaThrill Jockey.

Check Out This EP From Spritzer

0005959906_10I’ve been singing the praises of Brooklyn’s Matt Meade, aka Spritzer, for a long time now, so it’s about time that you finally take a listen. On this EP, called Get Away, which you can stream below or over on Spritzer’s Bandcamp page, you’ll find streaming synths, jazzy percussion, and four great pop tunes. I’m personally digging the third track, “Prelude to Psycho,” which is a burst of energy and light, but this is not to be outdone by the last track, “Psycho (I Love You),” which showsa great deal of refinement from Meade. Take a listen and then go fork over some money for this EP.

Brief Ditty From Tony Molina

tonymolina_promo-compressedOur dearfriend Shakespeare taught us that brevity is the soul of wit, and today, Tony Molina is here to prove that proverb remains true with his track “See Me Fall.” At only a minute long, this track is small taste of a sound, and yet it comes across as a complete tune. There’s a bit of a lullaby aesthetic going on in this track; Molina’s dreamy vocals are complimented by the gentle guitar sounds to create this enchantingly simple minute. This track comes from Molina’s upcoming 7″ calledConfront The Truth, which is out October 28th viaSlumberland Records.Preorder it here.

Bouncing Pop From Shock Machine

unnamedShock Machine is the title of the solo project from James Righton, who makes flawless pop tracks that go above and beyond the malaise. This song, “Lost In The Mystery,” is surely going to be stuck in your head instantly after you spin it at least a dozen times in quick succession. The track starts subtly: hand claps, a groovy bass line and some subtle, breathy vocals. Then the bounce from the rag-timey joins the mix and you also get (what sounds like) psych guitar riffs that chime in and out as well. The chorus is catchy as all get out, and the whole atmosphere reminds me of a mellower Cults track with vocals a-la The Papercuts. Take a listen and decide for yourself.

ATX Spotlight: More From The Well

13528760_1058444517544766_6923773044657595274_nA few weeks ago, I shared this new song from Austin’s own The Well. I’m pleased that the band has struck again and released another great single in anticipation for their upcoming album,Pagan Science, which is coming out October 14th. This track, “Drug From The Banks” builds upon the sound that you grew acquainted with on the last single or with previous releases– that kind of heavy psychedelic branch of rock you love to pair with slow head banging and perhaps a power stance. This track has got a bluesy vibe that joins the already psych rock base and the result is a great four and a half minutes of jam. Take a listen and get stoked for the new album.

Ex Reyes Gives You Jazzy Electro Pop

13221127_1083962231676708_5045264903406210662_oEx Reyes, AKA Mikey Hart of Brooklyn, has dropped a new track in the past few days called “Only You,” which channels the genres of jazz and electro pop into one smooth and sleek song with vocals that are reminiscent of The Beach Boys. This song, which you can listen to below, sounds like its about pining for someone and perhaps not having the feelings be known, or returned for a while. There’s a rad balance between jazzy elements like horns and simmering percussion that are mixed with the twee organ sounds and Hart’s cool vocals. Take a listen and see if you dig it.
