A Festival, A Parade Share Dark Alt Rock Single

afapA Festival, A Parade are a four piece out of Newcastle Upon Tyne who have got a Frightened Rabbit meets Preoccupations vibe with their heavy dark rock. This new single below, “If Dogs Could Talk,” has all the elements you’d expect from an alt-rock song: cutting riffs of electric guitar that duel throughout, furious drums with lots of cymbal crashes, and the deep vocals of Joe Allen that keep the song in that grumbling, low tone. This band has only been at it for about a year, so you can expect a bright future from these gents.

Bonus points if you can guess which track by The National that it appears this band has generated their name from.

Get a Little Metal With Wolf People

298518_221756144558137_1937673973_nWolf People, out of the London area, are back in the fray with a new song off their upcoming album. “Ninth Night” is a three minute whirl of psychedelic fuzz and darkness, with a bit of metal influence coming in with the raging guitar solos that take over the song toward the end. There’s a huge amount of distortion that really takes over the number and gives it some snarl and attitude.

They’ve got a new album called Ruins coming out on Jagjaguwar on November 11th.

Local Natives – Sunlit Youth

sunlit-youth
Rating: ★★★½☆

In 2010, Local Natives, then a four piece, now a five piece, released their first studio album, Gorilla Manor, here in the United States to thunderous approval from the masses– their lush harmonies, wild yet clean percussion, and orchestral elements made their pop stand far above the masses whilegenerating a wide fan base. Three years later, they followed withHummingbird, which saw the band furthering their percussive reaches and treading into more emotional territory with a little production help from Aaron Dessner. Once again, three years have passed, and the band has pushed themselves into yet another territory: unabashed pop. The result is is Sunlit Youth; a fairly triumphant third release that refuses to apologize for its pop warmth and youthful glow. Read more

Preoccupations Strike Again!

unnamed-58Are you properly exited for the upcoming, self titled LP from Preoccupations? No? Well, this new 11 minute track from the band is bound to make that happen. “Memory” is a sprawling, seemingly endless number that features the brilliance of Wolf Parade’s Dan Boeckner. This track feels like it’s a center cut of the upcoming album, as it spans in a few different directions. First it starts with that post-punk growl that we’ve come to know with Preoccupations, but this time around it feels a bit lighter and poppier. As the song progresses, those guitars wind their way through the song and the backing “oohs” sound like ghostly wails before the band transitions into the next sound scape. Take a listen and then go preorder the album, which is out September 16th, right here via Jagjaguwar Records.

New Tune From gobbinjr

gobbinjrIf you like weirdo pop, and you know you do, then this new track from gobbinjr is sure to tickle your fancy. Emma Witmer is the mind behind the moniker that is making these slightly off-kilter pop tunes, and this new track, “firefly,” certainly fits that bill. The song starts with whirling, carousel style synthesizers that bounce all around, while Witmer’s sugary vocals sing you sinister lines like “I just want the human race to die.” This track is part of gobbinjr’s upcoming EP,Vom Night, which you can pre-order here. It’s out November 4th.

Americana Tinged Rock From Oldermost

oldermostOldermost are a group out of Philadelphia, PA, that ride on the waves of rock and roll, but their tunes fall along the softer side of that rock spectrum. They’ve got new track to share with you called “Finally Unsure,” and you’ll hear what I mean when you start to listen. The guitars are immediately there, along with the undercurrent of throbbing bass, but they’re second to those whispery vocals. But just you hold on, the track isn’t all quiet americana, no, stay with it till the end and you’ll be delighted to hear the way in which the song builds to its close. From such humble beginnings comes a huge, swelling sound.
