Tempest le Mans Give You Perfect Nost-Pop

unnamed-55It’s Friday, which means that most of y’all are probably ready to break free from the chains of the day job and enjoy a nice summer weekend. One way to make that feeling happen a little early is to jam this oddly nostalgic and juvenile tune from Tempest le Mans that will have you thinking about your first crushes once again. The whole vibe of this song is a little surfy and a little jangly, with a killer bit of guitar solo at the end that is sure to check your box for the jam of the day. Vocally, Nathan Castiel brings emotion and pep with his nasal tone that and shows his full range on the choruses. Did I mention that this song includes horns to really round things out at the end; while the subject nature of the track is juvenile, the track is supremely mature pop perfection.

Infectious Dream Pop From Suburban Living

unnamed-54Suburban Living, out of Philadelphia, have signed to 6131 Records for the release of their second album. They’re making dream pop with major electronic influences, as you’ll hear in the song below called “Come True,” which begins with those bouncing synths. As the track progresses and builds, you get shimmery guitars as well as hazy vocals to complete the dream pop vibes that Suburban Living do very well. Look out forAlmost Paradise, which will be out October 7th via 6131 Records.

Bluesy Folk Rock From Julia Jacklin

unnamed-53Australia tends to give us some pretty great gifts music-wise, and Julia Jacklin, originally from the Blue Mountains, is no exception to this. The track below, “Coming of Age,” shows off the skills that Jacklin has. The sound is pretty big from the beginning; the guitars are hazy and garage-tinged, but the vocals are quite the folk-rooted croon. It’s a right catchy and delightful number that hybrids two different genres quite flawlessly. Jacklin is new to the music scene, which makes this track all the more impressive. Make sure to look out for more from Jacklin, and get ready forDon’t Let The Kids Win, which will be out October 7th via Polyvinyl Records.

Required Listening: New Tallest Man on Earth Track

13423995_1013036708744582_3711737306648003127_nAnytime Kristian Matsson shares a new song under his moniker of The Tallest Man on Earth, you can bet I’m going to share it with you. This new song, “Rivers,” is an interesting addition to the song bank that this gentleman is accruing in that it’s a very refined and subtle– the vocals are angelic and delicate. Like all Tallest Man on Earth tracks, you get a perfect example of folk magic with this song. I don’t have much to say about this song, other than you should probably just press play below and let yourself be taken away by the graceful track.

LVL UP Give You Fuzzed Out Rock

LVL UPLVL UP have been at the game of crafting emotionally accessible and equally fuzzy tracks for some time now and are approaching the release of their third album, albeit their first on the Sub Pop label. The track below, “Hidden Driver,” is slated to be the first track onReturn To Love, and it’s a good example of how well this band does fuzzy rock. The song opens with a general layer of haze over everything–vocals, percussion, guitars– but this really makes the sound stand out. Take a listen below, and then pre-orderReturn To Love, which is out on September 23rd via Sub Pop.

Preoccupations Air New Video For “Degraded”

Preoccupations (FKA Viet Cong) are going to be releasing a new album soon that matches their new name, and if it’s anything like last year’s debut release, then we’re going to be in for a treat. From the sound of the singles they’ve released thus far, I believe my excitement is well motivated. Today, they’ve put out a video for the second single off Preoccupations, which is called “Degraded,” and is a three minute collection of visually stimulating images. The track itself is great– it has the dark swirling post-rock energy that Preoccupations does so well, but takes a more streamlined approach than what we heard from this group in the past. Take a listen below and hear for yourself;Preoccupations will be out September 16th via Jagjaguwarpreorder it here.

P.S. Vinyl snobs should know that Secretly Group has started a Secret Society that sends you a new exclusive colored LP every month, and Preoccupations are part of the launch. Check that out here.

Something Different From PWR BTTM

unnamed-52You should have acquainted yourself with the New York duo known as PWR BTTM already, but in case you have somehow fell off the face of the earth, now’s your perfect chance to get back on. “New Hampshire,” is a different side of PWR BTTM than we’ve seen so far, relying mostly on the delicate vocal performance and quiet instrumentation, arguably different than the loud glitter punk that I’ve come to associate with the act. Regardless, you should take a listen to this song right now.

Local Love: Perfect Folk From Adam Torres

unnamed-51The rain is really coming down here in the ATX, so it’s a good thing that our very own Adam Torres has got the perfect folk track for us to jam all through this rainy week. “Morning Rain,” the track you should already be listening to below, is a single off Torres’ upcoming album, Pearls To Swine, which is due out in a little less than a month. It’s a quiet little ditty, but if you listen closely, you’ll hear just how complex and textured this folk track is. Torres’ vocals are pushed to their limits, and he shows his impressive range via falsetto’d choruses. My favorite part of the track is the undercurrent of string sound, that adds a line of sorrow to the mix. Do yourself a favor and listen to this song, and be sure to pre-orderPearls To Swine, which is out September 9th via Fat Possum Records.

Local Love: New Track From The Well

13528760_1058444517544766_6923773044657595274_nIf you haven’t already acquainted yourself with the music of Austin’s very own, The Well, you should probably fix that…now. The Well are a three piece psych rock band that hinges on the metal side of the spectrum. They’re on their way to releasing a new album, which is called Pagan Science, and is about to make big waves for the band. Before that album comes out, you can listen to the first of their new tracks below, called “Black Eyed Gods,” which is a furious explosion of heavy guitar riffs and gang vocals that’ll have you screaming along. Get ready for their new album, which will be out October 14th, and be sure to go pre-order it here, via Riding Easy Records.

Midnight Faces Bring You Sleek Pop

11054859_947370948647294_1396200646140316305_oMidnight Faces, a duo out of LA, have got a new song to share with you today that bridges genre and styles to make for one pretty groovy pop track. “Germanium” starts like a synth pop jam, with new wave influence in the endless synths. But then the electric guitar riffs cut through the mix and add a bit of psychedelic influence, followed closely by the vocals, which twist the song along folksier lines. Take a listen below, and if you’re digging the vibes, be sure to get ready for their upcoming album, Heavenly Bodies, which is due out August 26th.
