DYAN Strikes Again!

13217351_603605876464682_1879318460626816331_oA few months ago I shared with you this single from DYAN, or the project of Alexis Marsh of Los Angeles. But before she will go on to release her debut album, she’s shared the title track of that upcoming record with us all. Below is “Looking For Knives,” which is an emotionally heavy track that will hit you hard with its minimalist aesthetic. Synths waiver and pulse through the mix, while Marsh’s vocals cut through these dark undertones with her crisp and lucid vocals. You also get gentle guitar sounds and the introduction of percussion elements as the song progresses. It’s a subtle number, but one you’ll find revisiting throughout the day, especially when the saxophone solo at the end comes through. Take a listen and then be ready for Looking For Knives, which will be out July 29th.

Space Out To This New Suuns Video

In this day and age, it’s sort of a rarity that a music video will fully engage me for its complete duration. With this new video for “Instrument”from Canada’s Suuns, I find that this is not the case, as I’ve watched this a few times over. The electronic pulses and drones of Suuns music is perfectly accompanied by the black and white repetition of the simple video, and you will find yourself engrossed in the whole aesthetic of the clip. Sometimes, all you need is a brief reprieve into some other world, and this video for “Instrument” is sure to give you that. Also be sure to check out their albumHold/Stillwhich came out earlier this year on Secretly Canadian.

Keep It Local: New Video From Wildfires

I’ve been posting a lot about these folks from Wildfires, but when a band is on a roll, it’s pertinent that they get the attention they deserve. Wildfires have released a new video for a track off their upcoming EP, Aguas Frescas Pt. II and it’s a great way to fit a jam into your day. The video below, for “Undead Fun,” has fine green-screen technology, and…puppets, which will undoubtedly give you a laugh. Meanwhile, the song itself is a great shoe-gaze hit, with infectious jangly guitar riffs andgarage-rock vocals. Personally, I really love the way this song starts on the mild-side and then ramps up to close with a bit of a bite. Take a listen and thenget excited for that EP release, which is happening August 26th.

Japanese Breakfast will floor you with their perfect dream pop, while Jay Somis an artist of the self proclaimed “woozy” genre. I suggest you get there early to get the most out of your money.

Mandatory Viewing: New Angel Olsen Video

It’s possible you’ve encountered this video elsewhere on the internet today, but just in case you haven’t, it’s time for you to sit down and let Angel Olsen have your attention for a few minutes. This video for “Shut Up Kiss Me,” features Olsen in a glittery silver wig essentially throwing a tantrum on roller skates while spitting out her attitude filled lyrics. While I was already excited for her upcoming album, this single shows Olsenexploring more into the rockier side of her garage aesthetic. It’s a great track with tons of energy, and I implore you to take a listen and let it get stuck in your head for the rest of the day. Also, preorder MY WOMAN right here from Jagjaguwarand get ready for its August 19th release.
