Cass McCombs Continues His Streak

unnamed-48We here at ATH are fairly convinced that Cass McCombs can do no wrong, and with every single he releases in anticipation to his upcoming album,Mangy Love, he proves us to be a little more right. After seeing him at Primavera Sound, I’m pleased to hear “Run Sister Run,” which is a laid back groove employing a mellow beat. The verses ramble while the chorus is a tight knit refrain that McCombs returns to no matter how far away the verses take him from it. This is a track that brings outa different side to McCombs, and makes me excited for that release ofMangy Love, which will be out on August 26th viaANTI.Go preorder!

A Little Folksy Pop From Heroes of Toolik

Heroes of Toolik 2013Heroes of Toolik, an NYC based super group, are on the verge of releasing their second full length LP in August. In anticipation of that release, they’ve put out a single that shows off their avant-garde folk pop style. “Perfect,” which you can listen to below, is a nice blend of avant garde folk pop which orchestral influences. The vocals are a bit unconventional, almost like a bit of poetry in the verses, but then they remind me a bit of Belle & Sebastian in the harmonious choruses. And it’s impossible to ignore that nice string presence in the mix that adds an extra layer to the song. Take a listen and then get ready for Like Night, which will be out in August.

Pure Summer Jangly Jam From Skytone

skytoneSKYTONE is a two-piece band out of Ottawa who have a brand new track that is sure to make you break out a sweat from dancing in the summer sun. I know you’ve been looking for a way to extend the weekend and so I’m glad to share “Second Hand Shops” with you. It’s the perfect blend of jangly guitars and surfy vibes, and even includes hand-claps! You get lyrics that will tickle your summer-feelings: “I don’t care what they say about tomorrow,” and a chorus that begs you to leave it all behind. Skytone have got a real winner of a single here, and I highly suggest you take a listen and heed their advice.

Digging This Hazy Pop From Alexandra Savior

unnamed-47Sometimes, you just know when a track is going to be magical. In this case, my spidey senses were alerted to this track’s potential via Alex Turner’s presence on the production credits. Anyways, Alexandra Savior is a young upstart out of Portland, Oregon who is rising fast in the musical world. It’s probably something about the way her lush vocals just rest on the mix, its dark and smoky aesthetic creating a layer of mist and mystique over the whole thing. Then there are these buzzing synths and the grit of an occasional guitar part that cuts through the jangly, tambourine heavy, percussion. Take a listen and get on the rad tunes of Alexandra Savior before she blows up.

The Fireworks Strike Again!

unnamed-46Back in 2015, and probably before that, we became enamored with London/Brighton based band, The Fireworks, and their debut album,Switch Me On,which was all parts unabashedly fuzzy energy, jam packed into an album. Today, I’m quite pleased to share a new track from the band which is taken from an upcoming EP, Black and Blue, which the band will be releasing shortly on July 15th. The track is called “All The Time” and from the moment you press play, you know you’re getting into something special. The drums sound off like a countdown before those vocals and guitars kick in, giving the whole thing a 90s alt feel, but then as the track takes off, this genre is met with dueling vocals and snarling guitars that turn things into an even darker modern punk track. Take a listen and then go preorder that beautiful blue vinyl EP from ATH faves Shelflife Records…or else you’ll be missing out big time.

Add Some Noise To Your Day With Lazy Legs

12322715_920387561411444_3099514226370434551_oI’m all about finding a track of the day that begs to be turned up at full volume and then getting in my car to go to work and blasting said tune to its proper level of sound. Today’s tune that begs you to turn it up loud is called “Open” from Lazy Legs, who hail from Chicago. This track is a full on shredder, perfectly noisy and raucous, bringing you just enough lo fi fuzz on the guitars while the percussion rages awayunder it all with crashing cymbals.

Lazy Legs’ debut album, Visiondeath, will be out July 15th and you can preorder it here through their band camp page. There you can also hear another great single from the band called “Sparks.” Blast through your Wednesdaywith the band.

Ghost Wave Brings You a Light Psychedelic Jam

11146495_10153285912809496_8047713030380912306_nGhost Wave are a two piece out of Auckland who are making psych rock that will have you jamming hard. They released this track, “All U Do is Kill” a short while back, but we somehow missed it, so it’s pertinent that I share it with you. I’m loving the way this track unwinds as it goes, with psych synths streaming in and out of the mix while the vocals are fuzzy and falsetto, adding a breezy feel to the otherwise grungey and gritty funk-rock. Take a listen and watch out for the impending music video for this song, which should be out sometime soon.

Local Love: Wildfires Share New Shoegazey Single

wildfiresATX’s very own Wildfires have got a new single out today that is well worth your time. The track, called “The Lame,” is available for you to download below, and it features everything we loved about the band when they released their last single, “Canelo” about a month ago. It’s got this pleasing shoe-gaze esque sound to it from the start when the guitars jangle in to the song. Later on, you get this laid back break down from the group that will have you returning again and again to the song. Take a listen, enjoy, and then look out for their upcoming release,Aguas Frescas Pt. II, which is out August 26th.

And Now For Something Different: Kllo

unnamed-45We here at ATH have a type, and we typically post music that follows along those lines. So when I heard this new track from Kllo, I was taken aback at how much it roped me in. “Walls to Build,” the single below, is a electronic jam with heavy R&B influences that will bust its way into your cold dead indie rock heart with its cool, simmering vibes. Kllo are a two piece out of Melbourne, and they’re on the cusp of releasing a new EP calledWell Worn, and it’ll be out August 5th via Ghostly International. Take a listen and if you’re digging up the simplistic, yet elegant jam, preorder that EP here.
