Pinkshinyultrablast Make Their Triumphant Return!

pinkyIt’s not a secret that we really dig Russia’s Pinkshinyultrablast and their take on streamlined shoegaze rock and roll. So you can bet your buns we’re stoked to hear that they’re following up their debut record from the beginning of this year with another record to be released early next year. This new record, Grandfeathered, as hinted at by this first single, “The Cherry Pit” sounds like it’s going to be a bit more of an exploration of the transcendent tunes that we got a taste of on the band’s first go-round. At almost six minutes in length, this track goes a lot of different directions, but one of the first things that will strike you is the almost impossibly crisp female vocals and their steady presence through the whole track. Take a listen and enjoy.

Jam This Cover From Those Darlins

11049118_10153029290821059_6263931789832497561_nA bit of sad news comes with this post, but not to worry, there’s a good track at the bottom to ease the pain. Those Darlins, of Nashville, have announced an “indefinite hiatus” and a final round of tour dates for their current send out of the musical world for now. While this is a bummer, with this announcement they’ve released a cover of “Female Trouble” by Divine. It’s a sultry take on a classic song, with grooving bass lines more present in their rendition and a bit of snarl in the guitars. Take a listen below and simultaneously find solace and sorrow in light of the band’s announcement.

Nostalgia-Inducing Track From Pete Astor

10446260_536132329858294_6726656516909291578_oYou probably know Pete Astor from his work with The Loft, or perhaps The Weather Prophets, or maybe from his own solo work. However you know him, or even if you don’t, you should stop what you’re doing and listen to this new track, “Really Something,” that’s taken from his latest LP, Spilt Milk, which we can expect next February on Slumberland Records. This song is a bit of a blend of new and old; it’s got that faded jangly guitar sound reminiscent of the early 80s, but it also has the modern laid back coolness that we see from bands today. Take a listen and enjoy.

New Video Featuring The Sunny Pop Of Chorusgirl

chorusgirlLondon’s Chorusgirl released their album not too long ago at the beginning of November, and from that album, today they’ve shared a rad little music video for the track, “Dream On, Baby Blue.” This track is a bright and airy dreamy pop song that’s got enough sunshine in it to bring you back to warmer days (even though it’s not that cold here in the ATX). You can watch the quirky music video below, and be sure to pick up a copy of their debut album here, as they are clearly cranking out some good tunes.

Subtly Groovy Indie Rock From World Champion

12185218_1940953429463297_4303173634602847897_oSo maybe I’m a few days late on this track and EP from World Champion, but it’s kind of a slow news day so far so I’m back tracking. World Champion are a group out of Sydney composed of William Campion and Julian Sudek. They’ve got a neat sound that you’ll hear on the track below called “Tip Pit,” which is driven by the bluesy guitars and falsetto’ed vocals. It’s a mellow jam, but a good one nonetheless. If you like it, be sure to check out the EP, Avocado Galaxy, which the band just released, right here.

Dreamy Ethereal Track From Keiandra

keiandra-press-image-2It’s a gray day here in the ATX, which makes me prone to listen to the kind of hazy dream-like tracks that Newcastle artist Keiandra is putting out. This new track, taken from her debut EP Empty Places, which is due out early next year, is a crescendoing sequence of layered vocals and minimalist instrumentation which creates this elegant and mystical sound to “Wanted.” Each sound melts into the next, generating a multi-faceted aspect to the song that reminds me of other alt-folk female artists like Daughter bring to the table. Take a listen below and get a little lost in the song.

Two New Wild Nothing Tracks?!?!

Credit_Daniel_McMahon2The boys are back! I’m beyond excited to announce that Wild Nothing have a new album on the way called Life of Pause, which is due out shortly via Captured Tracks. After their spectacular previous release, Nocturne, it seems that this band is still moving upwards and onwards with their sound; these two new tracks still showcase that lush dream pop, but with more hints of synths laced into the sound. While I like both of the new tunes, I think the second track, “TV Queen” strikes closer along the lines of what we’ve heard before from the band.  Take a listen to the tracks below and rejoice that there is yet more new music to come from Wild Nothing.

I Can’t Not Share This New Ducktails Track

11011742_10153118611178988_4504398511613680129_nCall it old news, or call it what you will, but this new track from Ducktails must be shared. We’ve grown fond of essentially all the work we’ve heard from Matt Mondanile via Real Estate or this project, so it’s not a surprise that this song, “Don’t Want To Let You Know” is a stoner rock gem. The soundscape is lush and full, alternating between a groovy bass line and fuzzy twee synths. Vocally, I’m a little on the fence, but the psychadellic-lite aesthetic of the song keeps me coming back. What do you think? Take a listen and watch Matt wander through some cold looking streets below.
