Sorry I Missed This: New Track From Last Good Tooth

feedingtime

While I may be a little late in sharing this new song from Last Good Tooth, ATH is no stranger to these Nort-Easterners, as we’ve brought you news from these guys on several previous occasions. This track is fairly laid back; the sound comes across as a mellow groove of indie rock with hints of blues laced throughout. This genre is brought forth in the track through the abundant horns as well as the electric guitar riffs that grace the mix in their precision and mild tonality. I don’t know about your day, but “This Light,” seems to me the perfect accompaniment to my Tuesday. Take a listen and get ready for the band’s upcoming release And All Things On The Scales, which will be out October 2nd via Supply and Demand Records.

Why Not Share This New Craft Spells Track?

1005485_10152016345456055_1677839790_nThe name Craft Spells has essentially become synonymous with bedroom pop music that will set your feet to dancing and your head spinning with each dreamy soundscapes, so when I see that there’s a new track from this project of Justin Vallesteros, I have to share it with you. It looks like this new track comes from an upcoming 7″ that will be released October 30th via Captured Tracks, and it still features the swirling pop from before, but this time around it feels like that swirling pop has been dowsed in a healthy dose of funk. The beat is slowed, and bursts of strange synth sounds crop up regularly. It’s a chill tune, but one that manages to hold your attention all the way through. What do you think?

Show Review: The Tallest Man On Earth @ The Moody Theater (9/13)

I had very high hopes going into The Moody Theater on Sunday evening. The bill was stacked; two artists who take the delicate process of songwriting and make it seem effortless through the tracks that they craft that stun us, two artists riding high off the release of statement albums in the progress of their career, two artists who embody just that word, affecting emotion and spirit with their voices and instruments. Lady Lamb opened the evening up and The Tallest Man On Earth brought it all together, both oozing soul from the stage.

Read on for my recount of how the magical evening unfolded.

Mellow Alt Rock Track From Carroll

CARROLL_011_PG

Carroll are a group who hail out of Minneapolis and they’re making spiraling and sleek indie rock with just enough bite to grab your attention. The track below, “Green Acres” is reminding me a lot of the sound of Snowmine; the vocals are light and airy, synths and guitars take turns sharing the spotlight, and bombastic drums propel the track forward. It’s a great alternative rock song and the band is just about to release their debut self titled album on September 18th via Entertainment One Music.

Show Preview: Tallest Man On Earth/ Lady Lamb @ The Moody (9.13)

11696537_10153041354817916_8928562787495893481_oSo I know you’ll be tired on Sunday from staying out late at our very own Popfest, but that’s really no excuse to miss out on a great show the following evening at the Moody Theater. This Sunday, Sweden’s The Tallest Man On Earth and company will be gracing the stage to delight all with new and old folk inspired tracks that will surely melt your heart. Word on the street is that he’s bringing along a full band to flesh out these new tracks, but we’ll still be given the special chance to spend some time alone with this man and his brilliant songwriting. If you weren’t already convinced about going, (which you can do, as tickets are still available here) be swayed by the fact that another vocal powerhouse, Lady Lamb, will be opening. You can get excited for the show with these two tracks below, and just know that you’ll be forever regretful if you miss this night of pop and folk music centered around passionate songwriting. No pressure.

Bonus Track From Moon Duo!

unnamed-2Whenever a band that just released an album throws another track your way, you take it. Moon Duo, the psychedelic rockers who released Shadow of the Sun earlier this year, have a bonus song from that release to share with you today called “Fadeaway” and it’s packed with even more of that great gritty psych rock that you love from these two. Who knows when we’ll hear from this band again, so take pleasure in the extra track below and if you haven’t already, check out Shadow of the Sun, which is out via Sacred Bones Records.

ATX Spotlight: A Little Rock From Sally Crewe

16576_10151818956882437_758950477_nIf you’re looking for rock music disguised as pop music with flairs of garage rock, then look no further than Austin’s own Sally Crewe. Crewe’s been around for a while, but she’s turning heads with this new single and title track of her upcoming album, “Later Than You Think,” which shows off her skills in the field of rock and roll. At first, the track seems like a solid rock tune showcasing the pop vocals and guitar hooks, but about two thirds of the way in, it takes a little turn for the darkness, and this is where Crewe really shines.  Sally Crewe is releasing Later Than You Think on September 22nd via 8 Track Mind.

Gem Of A Track From Gramma’s Boyfriend

11181087_964236080284251_3366262575382778148_nGramma’s Boyfriend, who currently hail out of the Twin Cities of Minnesota, are about to blow your mind on this Wednesday. They’ve debuted the killer track that I have for you below, “Forget The Stones” a few weeks back, but trust me when I say that you don’t want to miss out on this tune. It’s a perfect blend of genre, with pulsating synths that never stop, tart guitars that pierce the mix, and hazy power vocals that add a layer of mystique to the music. The track is at once immediately intriguing, grabbing your attention right out of the gate, but then the layers of the tune will keep you coming back again and again. Gramma’s Boyfriend are releasing their sophomore album, Perm, via Graveface Records on October 9th, so don’t miss out on that one. Preorder it here.

More To Love From Hibou

11952714_10153224008717901_6029836011570928364_oI’m not one to let you miss out on a great synth pop track, and it seems like Hibou is doing nothing but giving you hit after hit of this kind. In July, the man behind the music, Peter Michel, got us with the infallibly lush, “Dissolve,” which certainly had me looking forward to the band’s self-titled upcoming LP. Now, we’ve got “Eleanor,” the track below, which goes in a slightly different direction, but a good one nonetheless. This song relies a bit more on the synths of the track to create the dreamscape, and they twinkle through the number quite airily. Vocally, Michel’s pipes resound as though another synth, distorted just enough to blend into the instrumentals at times and then push away at the precise moment. Yea, it’s a Spotify only track, but you can just get over yourself and take a listen. I bit the bullet and found it for you, so trust me when I tell you it’s worth it. Don’t forget, Hibou is out via Barsuk Records on September 18th.
