Light Music Give You Shimmering Indie Rock

9ba37457-ae47-4568-ac50-1bf866e634c0Light Music, who hail from Milwaukee, are releasing a new album next month, and have a new single of their electro rock music to share with you. “Don’t Go Quietly” starts off with urgent synth that rings out quickly, then the vocals join in, which soften the mix in their borderline folk rawness. The electric guitar adds a meandering presence to the song, as the riffs spiral outwards through the otherwise focused and intent electro rock sound. If you like this tune, Light Music‘s new album Ocean’s Daughter is out August 21st on The Record Machine.

ATX Spotlight: OBN III’s Strike Again

obnYou know ’em, you love ’em, we love ’em: local rockers OBN III‘s. They’ve been making the Austin scene a little more rock and roll for a good deal of time now and they’ve returned once more to hit us over the head with a great rock tune. “4KD” is nothing but gnarly; blistering guitars shred through from the start, and the vocals match this tone while complimenting the fast paced drums. Though a straightforward jam, you can’t help but enjoy the edgy simplicity the band brings to the song. This track is perfect for blasting through these intense summer days. Take a listen.

More Indie Rock From Sports

unnamedA few short weeks ago, Nathan shared with you a single from a band by the name of Sports and today I’m here to throw another indie rock gem at you from this group of youngsters. “The Washing Machine” is a nice little track from the band’s upcoming record, All Of Something, which is due out October 30th on Father/Daughter Records, and it features some of the jubilant indie rock that you may have already heard from the first single the band put out, but whereas that track was all out rock, this one packs a bit of sentimentality to it. Don’t get me wrong, the song still packs a punch, but the vocals have a softer sound to them– as the lead singer Carmen Perry pushes her voice to those high peaks, you’ve gotta appreciate the sugary sweetness.

Synth Pop From Bec Sandrige

11717581_937056243018850_8890552995881701439_oThis song took me a little while to get into it, but even in the first listen there was this striking quality to the vocals that pushed me to listen again. Bec Sandrige is an Australian act who makes disco pop that will set your feet to dancing and “In The Fog, In The Flame,” is no exception. Though groovy even at the outset, the synths slowly make their appearance in the track, but the vocals are distinctive and unique: at once strong and soft, warbling through the lyrics. Then those synths begin to soar through and what you have is a strong pop song with a catchy chorus. Listen below to this first song off the recently released In The Fog EP.

Ancient Warfare Share Apocalyptic Rock Track

AncientWarfare_photo4.byAnnSydneyTaylorAncient Warfare is a Kentucky based group of four who are about to release their debut LP to the masses in a short while, but have a bit of a taste of what’s to come to share with you today.”Gunsmoke” is a smooth rock track, with a slowed down du-wop rhythm and little nuances such as the violin that snakes its way through the background, all while the lead vocals dominate the mix. Just when you think that it’s going to stay in the same slow groove the whole track, the band kicks it up at the end for a little break down. Take a listen and get ready for what’s bound to be a great album in The Pale Horse, which is out August 11th via Alias Records.

Sleepy Lo-Fi Track From Good Morning

0005442881_10When I stumbled upon this track, at first I didn’t really know what to think about it, as it starts out incredibly slow and kind of just stays in that low place, but there was something about it that kept me coming back to listen to it more and more. “You,” from these Melbourne gentlemen that call themselves Good Morning, is the perfect combination of jam and chill. You see, the guitars have this sort of zen jangle to them, just distorted enough with twang but arranged in such a way that you are lulled into a trance by their constant motion. Then there are the vocals, which are just as distorted, but   ever so delicate. Check out the track below and be sure to listen to “On The Street” as well from the band over here.

Jam This Cover Album From Greg Ashley

greg_ashleySo it’s not often that we post covers of songs, let alone whole cover albums, but it’s a Monday and it’s time to mix things up. Greg Ashley, who you should already know, has made an album covering legendary songs from Leonard Cohen and Phil Spector. I’m not going to say too much, as you should really just take a listen below or over here, but Death of a Ladies’ Man is filled with cowboy folk renditions of already great tracks. Hear it for yourself.

Late To The Surprise Party: New EP

10404398_862426240474373_2442393073918271198_nSurprise Party are a four piece psych rock outfit currently pumping jams out of Winnipeg. Last month they released an EP called Circle of Death that’s recently caught my attention with its slow core heavy rock sound. Below you can listen to a track from that EP called, “If You Fall,” which is a perfect example of the grungey psych rock that this band does pretty well. If you go here, you can listen to the rest of that EP and hand the band some money for their hard work. Turn it up loud.
