Parisian quartet Hoorsees have continued to impress over the last few years with their evolution into a truly French, indie pop/rock beast. New single “Ikea Boy” expertly displays this growth with hints of Strokes style guitar riffs playing over delicate touches of baroque pop. Of course the new single comes with the announcement of an anticipated new record entitled Big, which is due out on January 12th via Kanine Records. Ya dig.
With Levitation now just ONE day away, we are trying to cram in as many last minute previews as we can before heading out the door tomorrow afternoon. Our preview and interview today comes from one of our favorite new bands to emerge in the scene recently, New Orleans based Video Age. We’re getting ready for that lil’ festival this weekend, but that certainly doesn’t mean that we will stop dropping the random banger here and there. My jam of the day comes from the London based group Flat Party and their brand new tune “Glances in the Dark.” I love how the track melds this sort of post new wave style with a more twee pop vibe. Brings to mind an image of melding Mystery Jets pop influence with something more sinister like Death Bells. It’s a jam.
Flat Party will release this track as part of their debut, self-titled EP due out on January 19th via Submarine Cat Records. Pre-orders are live now.

It’s here ladies and germs, it’s officially time for another festival here in Austin as things for Levitation festival kick off on Thursday and run through Sunday. Your friendly ATH team of course has made plans for tons of coverage with some previews and interviews to get you prepped and excited for the long weekend ahead. London based outfit Human Interest just dropped this new tune called “All My Friends” and it felt like a solid tune for a Thursday mid morning. It has sort of a boozy, slacker rock style vibe to it that feels like American meets UK indie rock. It’s a foot stomper and a steady groover. Check it out with accompanying video below.

Party people. That ACL thing is over and done with for real so now it’s time to direct your attention to the festival that the ATH crew REALLY gets amped for. In just about a week and a half, the entire town will be getting down and cruising downtown for Levitation Festival. As we tend to do for this thing, be ready for a slew of previews, interviews, playlists, and band recommendations. Late last month, Scottish indie rock legends PAWS shared news of an upcoming album along with the hit single “One Nation Under Dog”. Understandably our interest was peaked with the new tunes, and today brings even more excitement and buzz with another new single called “Uncertain.” It sticks with the theme of a bleak outlook on the current state of things while growing older, all while cranking through some gnarly guitar solos and straight slacker rock.
The new PAWS self-titled album will hit streets on October 27th via Ernest Jenning Record Co. Pre-orders are live now!
London based group Another Sky hit my radar back in 2019 with a couple of stellar SXSW performances along with some singles that same year. Since then, the band fell mostly silent, but have returned with a fury this year having dropped three new singles since the start of the year (links for those here, here, and here). Not planning to slow down with their return, a fourth single came available today called “Uh Oh!” and is available to stream below or on all platforms. I think the song title works perfectly for the track as is doesn’t fool around from the get go and drives through two quick minutes of “Uh Ohs” and fun. One would expect the announcement of a new album soon so stay tuned.
While Nathan was holding down the fort for us and keeping it straight real, I of course missed a few hits over the last week. One such jam, comes by way of the Maine based artist Jesse Kivel and his new single “Overgrown Ocean.” This think packs a big punch of soul with a heavy groove paired with some slight hints of twang and delicate pop. It’s a jam.
