Straight Rocker From Minnows

Hey it’s Friday so why don’t we celebrate some rock n roll music before we head into the weekend. My straight up rocker today comes by way of the Columbus, OH based outfit Minnows and their brand new single “Make Us Soldiers.” It has a sort of post-punk energy melded with some classic rock touches and even slight hints of later stage emo. Hit it.

This track will be part of an upcoming debut LP entitled Foreign Moon due out sometime this fall.

Stream A New EP From Death Bells

Los Angeles by way of Australia duo Death Bells have been on my radar and various playlists for years now with their post-punk, almost gothic, dark wave sound. With zero plans to slow down and a slew of releases now out there in the world, the lads are sharing yet another set of new tunes with a new EP entitled Take My Spirit Now. You can stream the entire thing below and bask in the 5 tracks of glorious swirling guitars and hella slick rhythm work. This EP comes straight from Dais Records.

Another Hit From Postdata

Paul Murphy has really been on a tear musically over the last several years with his now full time project known as POSTDATA. A couple of years ago he dropped one of my albums of the year, which included one of my favorite songs of 2021, “Inside Out.” Now into 2023, Murphy has already released the poppier tune “Mine the Sea,” and returns yet again today with this more mellow beauty called “Try.” The track is sure to hit you in the heart feels today as it slowly grows organically into a lovely crescendo with empowering lyrics.

POSTDATA’s new album Run Wild is due out on 9/22 via Paper Bag Records. Pre-orders are live now.

Curling Share Patience Single

Curling is a band that seems hard to define with simple genre tags like shoegaze or even post-emo. While these lads certainly have some of those elements in their sound, they also can hit you with some heavy crescendos, loud guitars, and what I might consider classic rock at times. This new single “Patience” seems to embody this vibe incredible well and I suggest you check it out below.

“Patience” is part of a new Curling album entitled No Guitar due out August 11th. Pre-orders are live now.

Sea Lemon Shares Vaporized

Seattle’s own Natalie Lew and her project known as Sea Lemon really caught my attention during SXSW last March with her brand of dreamy and airy indie pop. Today I am delighted to share why she caught my attention with this delightful new single called “Vaporized.” Lew builds this delicate pop sound, but then also builds on it with a slowly driving and intensifying sound along with perfectly placed, and expertly written, lyrics. It’s sure to improve your day with every listen.

This single is part of a new EP entitled Stop at Nothing due out on August 25th via Luminelle Recordings.

Advertisement Share Victory

Seattle based outfit Advertisement blew up onto the scene back in 2020 with the release of their stellar debut LP American Advertisement. Since then, only a few singles have dropped while the band toured extensively and prepped for a follow up to the debut. Well now your wait is over as the group just announced their sophomore effort Escorts with the release of this new single “Victory.” You’ll find a pure form of rock n roll that seems somewhat lost in the current landscape but is certainly welcome and fresh for this listener.

Pre-orders for the new album Escorts are live now. It’s due out September 15th via Feel It Records.

ATH DJ Night @ Tweedy’s (7.14)

Tomorrow night ja boys will be back over at Tweedy’s near campus spinning our favorite tunes on the inside decks near the icy cold bar area. As always, we’ll be running a vinyl only set up with tunes coming straight from our very own collections. Genres will be scattered but always upbeat and requests will be noted. Come say hey, enjoy a drink and maybe snag some snacks from the new Counter Culture trailer.

Things kick off at 5pm and run till they tell us to stop! Ya dig it.

Sheer Beauty From Oslo Twins

Sometimes certain sounds and melodies hit your ear in just the right way at just the right time and you find yourself totally falling into the song. Today the up and coming Bristol based band Osolo Twins have embedded their sounds into my ear holes with this new single “Back to Nothing.” It blends the dreamy, delicate pop sounds of a band like Camera Obscura with subtle yet beautiful shifts from piece to piece throughout the track. Stunner.

Oslo Twins will release this song as part of their debut EP entitled Back to Nothing due out on July 28th via Fascination Street Records. Pre-orders are live now.

Groover From Exit Kid

After a string of EPs over the last few years, London based outfit Exit Kid took some time in the studio and now have a full length debut LP ready for release later this year. Prior to that drop, the band just shared this new rocker called “Classic Life.” It features a driven guitar inspiration falling in a sort of alt-rock genre but with some brightness and delicate touches to make it softer around the edges. Stay tuned for more on the upcoming debut LP release date and surely more singles to come.

One More From Night Beats

Well unless you just straight up don’t read about the new tunes on our site, I’m sure you’ve seen my fandom around the upcoming LP from Danny Blackwell and his LA based project Night Beats. If you did miss it, go back and check out the albums lead banger “Hot Ghee,” the psych trip of “Thank You,” and the groovy one “Nightmare.” Once you’re done there, come on back for the last preview of the new album with this slow R&B melody of “Blue.” Hit play and melt into the beats.

All of these new tracks will appear on the new Night Beats album Rajan which is due out this Friday the 14th via Suicide Squeeze/Fuzz Club.
