Indie Rock Gem From Tennis Courts

Though they may hail from Brooklyn, the songwriting duo of Patrick Walsh and Andrew Clarke certainly show some Southern Rock twang in their sound as the musical group Tennis Courts. Take this new tune “Jamie’s Party,” as an example with its indie rock meets Americana vibe to it. Think a band like Young Buffalo or Band of Horses but with a more classic rock structure to the song. Whatever you like to call it, I’m sure you’ll find it catchy as hell.

This track is the first single from the upcoming debut LP due out sometime this fall.

One more jam from Night Beats

It seems like this new album from Danny Lee Blackwell and his project known as Night Beats is going to be one of the surprise gems of the summer. Having already shared two hits with “Hot Ghee” back in April and “Thank You” last month, my buzz and excitement was already building. Now getting yet another jam today with this new track, “Nightmare,” I can definitely confirm that the new album is going to be a psych-rock meets disco, meets bee-bop banger, from start to finish.

The new Night Beats album Rajan is due out on July 14th via Suicide Squeeze and Fuzz Club. Pre-orders are live now.

Jangly New Tune From Mainland Break

It’s a warm one in ATX and sometimes it pays to try and imagine cool breezes with light sunshine on the coast or really anywhere that’s not 100 degrees. Denver, CO seems like a good spot at the moment, and the lads in Mainland Break are certainly making me jealous with their new jangly, indie rock joint. It also has an accompanying video that evokes those same, cooler Colorado vibes. The track sort of hits me in a Fruit Bats, meets Local Natives, meets Foreign Born sort of way and will surely hit you in all the right spots in your ear holes.

This tune will be part of a new album entitled One Way Ticket to Midnight due out on July 21st.

POSTDATA Returns with New Single & Video

Back about 2 years ago, Nova Scotian musician Paul Murphy released his third stunning LP Twin Flames under his recording moniker POSTDATA. Much to my delight, Murphy just announced his fourth LP away from Wintersleep and has also brought with it this new single “Mine the Sea.” Not surprisingly, the track offers a breath of lightness with hints of joy and love within the driving pop sounds. GEM.

This song will appear on the new album Run Wild due out in September on Paper Bag Records.

Sludge Punk from Genn

Brighton via Malta punk rockers GENN are continuing my huge dose of energy and drive recently with their new single called “Days and Nights.” It features a super sludgy take on punk rock with heavily distorted bass and guitars along with just the right amount of drops and fills. Think something like Dead Weather or maybe even the darker side of QOTSA. Whatever you call it, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

This song is part of a new album entitled unum due out on October 7th via Liminal Collective. Pre-orders for that are live now.

Off Judy Share Under The Weather

Continuing with my string of upbeat bangers this week seems to make the most sense for our collective psyche and Byron Bay based artist Off Judy is here to kick off your Monday. The band’s latest single “Under The Weather” features an alternative rock style with some hints of sludge and grunge, but with just enough pop elements to drive it home. Think White Reaper, but maybe with just a touch more sloppiness or slacker themes. The accompanying video fits well with the style as we have the neighborhood alcoholic crashing the local skate rink. Good times.

Sprints Share New Single and Video

Clearly I’ve been on a more upbeat and rocking kick lately and this new single “Adore Adore Adore” from Dublin based artist Sprints will surely add another song to my summer rockers playlist. After a brief video intro, the song kicks off into a whirlwind of 2 and a half minutes of sheer energy, screaming vocals and tons of in your face bravado. I am here for every ounce of it.

“Adore Adore Adore” is out now via Berlin based City Slang Records.

Bangin New Single From Nothingheads

We’re rolling through the start of summer over here in the ATH offices and we needed a lil pick me up this morning to give us a jolt for the week. Luckily we have London based Nothingheads ready for just such a jolt of energy with their banging and driving new song called “Beam Engine.” This one is full of energy with some passionate vocals like if the B52s took their quirky vocals and pop beats and blended them with say Death From Above. It’s fun as hell.

Nothingheads will release this track as part of a new EP entitled Sunlit Uplands due out on Friday the 9th via Just Step Sideways.

Pale Blue Eyes Drop New Single

Way back in August, a band called Pale Blue Eyes from the UK caught my ear with a refreshing and engaging song called “Little Gem”. Since that release and an album drop in September, the band has already shared news of yet another album coming later this summer. Prior to the album release date, the band is once again getting my hype train going with this new single “Takes Me Over.” Once again, I am really drawn into that driving bass mixed with the slightest hints of shoegazy, dream pop vibes. Lovely piece.

Pale Blue Eyes new album This House is up for pre-order now and hits the streets on September 1st via Full Time Hobby.
