Straight Rocker From Perfect Angel At Heaven

Clearly I have been struggling a bit getting back into the groove of things this week and I’m sure many of you can share the same sentiments. As I slowly find my footing this morning, I happened upon this nice lil jam from Indianapolis based artist Perfect Angel at Heaven over on bandcamp. It certainly reminds me of some of our hold heroes like The Thermals or Ted Leo, hence my urgency to share it with you all today. The single is part of a new EP coming from the band which is due out sometime… today? Or so says on their bandcamp page.

New DarkWave Single From Keep

Though I just ran my Top Songs of the year yesterday, new tracks continue to come in that might just alter my list a little bit. Richmond based group Keep certainly have a push for, at the very least, top song of the month with this new single called “Dasani Daydream.” I think a large part of my infatuation with this song today comes with hearing something that offers a unique sound and fresh vibes when we can otherwise be inundated with the same ‘ol same ‘ol stuff. It mixes this sort of darkwave goth sound from a band like Chastity with small hints of shoegaze brightness here and there. It’s rad.

Keep will release new album Happy in Here on February 3rd via Honey Suckle Sound. Pre-orders are live now.

RayRay’s Top Songs of 2022

Well the ATH crew is getting ready to shutdown for the season, but we’d be remiss to miss out on this whole year end list thing before closing up shop. As we’ve done in the past, I sort of took the lead on top songs of the year as I tend to be more of the playlist guy with Nate featuring more on the album side of things. So if you have any comments or hate to hate on, you can bring all that to this guy. After the jump I have an alphabetical list of all my 102 songs plus playlists for both you Apple Music (winner) AND Spotify (losers) users. Happy Year End 2022!

ATH DJ Set & Holiday Movie Night @ Oddwood Brewing (12.14)

Hola friends and family of ATH fandom. We are closing down our events for 2022 with a DJ set at Oddwood Brewing on Wednesday evening and we’d love to see you there for one last jam session before we close out the year. We’ll be spinning our usual brand of randomness on the tables from 5 till around 8, or maybe 8:30ish, followed by a Holiday film screening of the classic flick Black Christmas at 9:30. I’ll also have a few boxes of records for sale and Nate will have some choice ATH Records LPs, 45s and tapes available at markdown Holiday prices. See ya there!

Here’s my most recent vinyl mix up over on Mixcloud if you need more motivation. Preview?

Another Stunner From Free Range

Friday was a bit of a whirlwind in the ATH offices so I missed this absolutely stunning new tune from Chicago based artist Free Range. The song, “Want to Know,” is the second piece of work from Free Range mastermind Sofia Jensen which shows a songwriting skill and knack for beautiful progressions comparable to some of the best in the genre. This song can break your heart and possibly mend it all in the span of four and a half minutes.

This new video and single comes as with an announcement of a debut album entitled Practice due out on February 17th via Mick Music.

Gotta Check Out Notbrian

New York City based artist Brian Desousa and his project known as notbrian came onto our radar towards the end of summer with the release of The No EP, and we’ve been eagerly awaiting new music ever since. Well today he has a new tune for us called “Death of a Salesman” and it’s really solidifying this young artist as one to watch this year and next. It’s rad the way he shows a sort of very slight hip-hop or R&B inspiration and melds it with some lo-fi, yet jangly indie pop sounds. Perfectly unique vibe we are always on the lookout for. Stay tuned for more!

Another Banger From Pile

Nashville based band Pile is full of veterans in the music scene, but I think they might just be making some of their best new music this year. February 7th will be the much anticipated date for new album All Fiction, and I am here to tell ya, it is full of banger after banger and is 45 minutes of pleasure. Prior to that release date, Pile have this new single “Poisons” as yet another teaser of this straight badass new record. It’s just full of so much raw energy and somewhat restrained and palpable tension. You’ll surely enjoy it.

Pre-orders for All Fiction are live now via Exploding in Sound.

Another Jam From Tearing Up

Ontario based musician Graham Caldwell has really been wowing me with his new music coming out this year under the recording moniker Tearing Up. Already he’s shared the drum heavy, noise rock track called “Your Flame” and today we’ve got another new single “Said Something” for you to take into the weekend. I absolutely love the frantic nature of this song, which can often be messy or sloppy, but this one is frantic and full of energy while also keeping everything incredibly tight and enjoyable. December is off to a solid start with tunes like this one.

Tearing Up’s debut LP entitled Heavy is due out on January 23rd. Pre-save it now.

Stunning New Single From Angel Apricot

As I think I’ve previously mentioned, I often spend time perusing the bandcamp new and notable section for music I may have missed to add to ATH or to my daily playlists. While skimming the new tunes this morning, I came across this captivating new song called “Sparks” from Toronto based artist angel apricot. Not a lot of information is out there about the artist outside of an IG and youtube channel, but this is truly one of those songs that can speak for itself. Sort of a Grizzly Bear inspiration with heavy bass and delicate vocals.

If you’re into these sounds, angel apricot has an entire 13 song album entitled the pink sunset over you available to stream in full on bandcamp.

Glyders Share Wrong Sometimes Right

Having just returned from a Chicago jaunt to see my favorite UK band Sorry, I find myself diving into the local scene there more and more. Windy City based Glyders came on my radar this morning with their new song “Wrong Sometimes Right” and it seems to fit perfectly with my mellow Monday mood. I love the way this thing grooves a little bit while offering hints of country twang and soothing, light harmonies. Check it out below.

Glyders will release their debut album Maria’s Hunt on January 20th via Drag City. Pre-orders are live now.
