New Music From Past Lives

pastlivesSeems like the old boys who used to make up The Blood Brothers are progressing nicely in their new bands.  What with Jaguar Love and now Past Lives both working on new material, I guess we’ll never see a reunion.  Oh well.  This new track from Past Lives (featuring 3 former BB members) will appear on a new album called Tapestry of Webs out Feb. 23rd via Suicide Squeeze.  It’s a little spastic, but it’s got a much better sound than that new track Johnny and Cody just dropped.  What’s your take?

FTC: David Bowie

bowieWhile perusing some of our old From the Closet features I realized that we have never given a shout out to David Bowie, until today!  So how does one choose from such a vast discography when dealing with one of the legends of rock?  Easy!  Easy you say?  Yes, easy!  Just stick with his best album and the best representation of the glam rock genre: Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars.  I wish I could drop the whole album on our site for those pitiful few who haven’t heard it, but that’s not allowed, so I’ll stick with title track “Ziggy Stardust”.  Can you even imagine what it would’ve been like to be around in the early 70s and see Bowie during the height of his Ziggy alter-ego?  Many have tried to imitate, many have carried on the torch, some have even mocked, but we’ll just never get another Bowie.  Never.  Be sure to pick this one up on vinyl so you can experience the true mind blowing power of putting this on the record player back in 1972.  Enjoy.

ATH Presents: Dutchess & The Duke

ATHpresents_d&dHooray!  We are now happy to anounce a killer show we will be helping out with at Mohawk in December.  One of our favorite bands of last year (#1 to be exact) Dutchess & The Duke are returning to Austin on December 12th and we couldn’t be more excited.  They will be joined on the stage by two other buzz bands: Oakland’s own Greg Ashley and Denton, TX boys Fergus & GeronimoThe last time D&D were in Austin they played as an acoustic duo, but word has it that they are now touring with a full band to bring the rock!  Tickets will only run ya $8 so we really don’t know why you wouldn’t be there…  Plus it’s a Saturday night!  Check out some previews of this show with an album review of D&D’s debut album of 2008, one for their more recent LP Sunset/Sunrise, or an interview we ran the last time they made it to town.  Stay tuned for more details and a possible contest for tickets to the show.  In the meantime, check out one of our favorite songs from last year “Reservoir Park” and what will surely be in our top songs for this year “The River”.

Friendly Fires @ Mohawk (11/19)

friendly_fires1

Date 11/19/09
Location Mohawk
Doors 8pm
Tickets $10 from Frontgate

Front runners of the dance movement Friendly Fires are playing at Mohawk on Thursday night.  The show also includes buzz band The XX and Holly Miranda so the lineup is sick.  This also gives me an excuse to put up this XX song called “” which will probably be in my year end top songs list.

New Music From Minus The Bear

minusthebearMan it seems like it’s been ages since anyone has heard from Seattle boys Minus the Bear.  While the wait may have been long, it looks like the indie rockers are finally back and prepping some new material for a early 2010 release.  Two songs have been made available as a preview of that as of yet titled album and we have new one “Broken China” for you below.  You can also stream another new tune called “Into the Mirror” on imeem.  Both are making us think that this album will be something to watch for next year.

New Music From The Eels

eelsWho would’ve guessed that Eels leading man Mark Everett would have new material so soon after dropping LP Hombre Loco our way during the summer?  Well he’s back and his band has another new album hitting stores in January called End Times.  Here’s a first taste of the new LP.  It sounds like… The Eels.
