Indie-rock veteran Owen is about to drop a new album our way and has a single ready from the upcoming album. The song is called “Good Friends, Bad Habits” and will appear on the new album New Leaves which hits stores September 22nd via Polyvinyl Records. What’s your take?

Quiet Company is an Austin band led by native Taylor Glen Muse who has been in and out of countless bands over the last several years. After stints in an early form of Eisley and The Connotations, Mr. Muse moved on to record an album mostly on his own under the moniker Quiet Company. That first record, Shine Honesty, received a mostly positive response from critics which lead to new members and a brand new band. Fast forward to 2009 which sees Quiet Company dropping their sophomore effort Everyone You Love Will Be Happy Soon and extensive US touring in the works. To quote the band directly, expect songs that “will you make you fall in love with life and then just as quickly challenge everything you know about it”. That sounds like a sweet deal to me. You can catch Quiet Company in town July 31st at Antone’s opening up for What Made Milwaukee Famous. With Lollapalooza inching closer and closer, now is a good time to start talking about the festival and some of the bands playing. We couldn’t think of a better way to introduce some bands to the public than with a free sampler from the fine folks at Lollapalooza. Sydney, Australia indie rock band Dappled Cities have some new music ready and waiting for their fans. The new single we have for you is called “The Price” and will appear on upcoming album Zounds. You can get your hands on that one August 15th via Dangerbird Records.

Just saw over on the Pitchfork that the huge Monsters of Folk collaboration now has a release date and a first single. If you weren’t already aware, the star studded project involves M. Ward, Jim James from My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst from Bright Eyes, and producer Mike Mogis. The band plans to release their self-titled debut September 15th via Shangri-La Records. For now, here’s the first material from the project “Say Please”. Dig.

Creators of one of our jams of summer, Foreign Born, are playing at Mohawk on Sunday evening. To make the show more enticing, The Veils and The Other Girls will be opening things up. For only $10 this should be a great way to close down your weekend. Doors are at 8pm.

The Black and White Years have slowly started to make a name for themselves as one of the biggest draws in our town. Chances to see them in smaller venues in Austin may be hard to come by soon so head to the indoor stage at Stubbs Saturday night for a set by the rock n roll outfit. We’re more excited for the show because our good friends Whitman will be providing the opening support for the evening and start around 10pm. Tickets can be had now for $8 or $10 at the door. We are big fans of VEGA and we are also big fans of cheap shows at Club Deville on Friday nights. Fellow locals Neiliyo and Joshua Distance will also be on hand to play for the show. Entrance is only $5 if you RSVP at Turn 2 Live or $10 if you don’t. Should be a fun one.

We’ve always made a point to see Bill Callahan when he comes to Austin and we always enjoy the performance he puts on. If you’ve yet to catch one of these shows, you can sort of recreate the live experience with Tiny Desk Concert Mr. Callahan just recorded for NPR.
