News of an upcoming Yo la Tengo release has been spreading like wildfire over the internet today. We snagged this first single from the album and are happy to hear that old garage sound we’ve come to love so much. “Periodically Double or Triple” will appear on the new LP Popular Songs which does not have a release date as of now.

Throw me the Statue is a band we fell in love with over the last year so we are of course excited to hear that the band are prepping a new LP for release later this summer. First single from the album “Ancestors” was made available for download yesterday and could be another one of our famed songs of summer. Creaturesque will be available in stores 8/4 via the Secretly Canadian label.
Sad Accordions are a band that we were tipped off on by our friend Mike over at the music blog Sonic Itch. After giving them a few listens and the bands music turning up on our most played lists, we thought it was about time to run a feature on the group. The story reads that Sad Accordions got their start many years ago in the metropolis of Houston, TX when founding members Ben Lance and Seth Woods began to play music together. Soon after in 2003, more members joined on and the group relocated to our little city and have been playing local shows and growing their fan base ever since. The sound of Sad Accordions is a little bit folky, a little bit quiet/melodic rock, and all parts beauty. Check out a sample of the band’s sound below with Fire/Ash from debut LP A Bad Year for the Sharons. It’s one of the most complete and heart-felt albums we’ve heard in a long time. Pick it up!

The always fun band The Submarines were on Daytrotter earlier this week. The L.A. duo play 3 songs including this gem made famous by your friends at Apple. I bet they are really sick of playing this one by now… but I still love it!

It’s really sad that Jay Farrar’s band Son Volt has gotten little to no attention from online media after Uncle Tupelo broke up. All praise continues to fall on Jeff Tweedy’s Wilco as they grow and grow to huge levels of success. Well low and behold Son Volt has a new record coming out July 7th called American Central Dust and we just found first single “Down to the Wire” today on the internets. Farrar still has one of the best voices in the modern alt-coutry era.

Up and comers Phenomenal Hand Clap Band have a new self-titled album due out on June 23rd via Friendly Fire Recordings. Today we just received the first single “15 to 20” from the album and are ready to proclaim it another feel good dance hit for summer. What’s your take?

Yes you read that right. Kings mutha truckin X is playing at Red Eyed Fly on Monday. Monday! I can’t believe I am actually typing these words. How can such a band be playing at such a small venue!?! Okay maybe you aren’t as excited as me, but you damn well should be. I can’t find anything about a price or when it starts, but I bet it’s cheap and pretty late. Rock on!

Saturday night the lineup at the local bar/venue features an awesome local lineup with Amplified Heat AND Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears. Please tell me you’ve seen Black Joe? You haven’t! The Virgins are a band receiving some positive press recently as the music world becomes more and more fascinated with dance/pop/garage bands. Not too sure about what the band brings to the table as far as live sets go, but I do know that their single is catchy as hell. Touring support for this Emo’s show is pretty solid with Lissy Trullie and Anya Marina both on the bill. Tickets are on sale now for $12 and show starts at 9.

Pilot Speed is a band that we’re running late on posting about, but now is a great time as they’ll be stopping through Austin on Tuesday. The Canadian act is currently touring in support of their brand new LP Wooden Bones (Windup Records) which has been receiving some quiet buzz around the blogging world.
