Another Jam From Automan

Back in May we were treated to a remarkable introduction to London based group Automan with the release of their single “Are You Happy Without Me”. After impressing us at the start of summer, the dudes are again leaving an impression on us with this new track called “Dreamland”. In the end, it’s a really simple sort of indie rock song with a subtle pop inspiration, but often the simplest tracks can result in some of the most memorable tunes. As a three piece the band somehow sound completely fleshed out and full of smooth drum beats, slick bass, and bright guitar solos. Nice finish to the day.

Enchanting New Single From Paul Thomas Saunders

Brighton based artist Paul Thomas Saunders really made a name for himself back in 2014 with the release of his debut album Beautiful Desolation, but despite a few singles in 2017, he took a complete hiatus from music. Today fans of Saunders were treated to an unlikely new single and the announcement of his sophomore album, just eight years in the making. When you are dormant for so long, it’s going to take something hauntingly beautiful like this new single “Bloodlust” to really re-announce yourself into the music world. What an incredible way to come back. Welcome back sir.

The sophomore release from Paul Thomas Saunders, Figure in a Landscape, will be out October 21st via 7476 Records. Pre-orders are live now.

Introducing The Natural Lines

Matt Pond is one of those musicians who almost feels like close family at this point as I’ve been listening to his music since the very beginning and covering his tunes in the earliest days of ATH. Seriously, one of our very first posts back in 2008 was about an EP from Matt Pond PA. Wild. Well wild as it is, here in 2022, Matt Pond is rebranding himself under the name The Natural Lines which is still mostly Pond solo but also with the help of a revolving door of friends and musicians. To kick off the new project, Pond is sharing this single called “The Problem is Me” which is a lush, atmospheric take on folk inspired indie rock, of which Pond has made himself famous over the years. Love the new project/direction.

The Natural Lines will release this track as part of a new EP entitled First Five, out October 14th via Bella Union.

Yet Another Jam From Milly

As evidenced by my posts about Los Angeles based MILLY over the last couple of months, I am clearly digging everything the band has been releasing. As if I needed more reason to promote this band, they go and drop a song like “Marcy”, and I’m once again all aboard the hype train. This one is a little slower and more downtrodden when compared to previous singles, but I can see how this would fit in perfectly amongst an album of hits. This record is clearly going to be taking up spots in all our year end lists.

MILLY’s new album entitled Eternal Ring comes out on September 30th via Dangerbird Records.

Straight Banger From Disq

If for some reason you are still sleeping on Wisconsin based indie risers Disq, it’s time for you to start paying attention to what’s happening in the music world. Today the band is adding yet another banger to their repertoire with this stunning new single “(With Respect To) Loyal Serfs”. I often throw around that word “banger” when referring to songs that are full of energy and let loose, but I wish my slow moving brain today could think of an even better adjective to convey the sheer joy I’m feeling from this guitar heavy indie rocker. Just check it out and enjoy.

Disq will release new album Desperately Imagining Someplace Quiet on October 7th via Saddle Creek.

The Roof Dogs Release Weather

As previously mentioned, I have become an ever growing fan of the Birmingham, AL based label Earth Libraries and all the excellent tunes they’ve been putting out over the last year. The label has once again sent over a banger with the new single “Weather” from Chicago based outfit The Roof Dogs. Clearly the song has a bit of irony for us in Texas since we are constantly subservient to the weather, but that aside, the song is an incredibly catchy indie rock song with just enough hints of pop beats. Check it out and enjoy.

The Roof Dogs will be releasing a new album entitled Here You Are sometime in the Spring of 2023 via Earth Libraries.

Ollie Cook Shares Apocalypse Now

We’re close to closing out the week ya’ll, but before we do, take a moment to listen to this new tune “Apocalypse Now” from Wolverhampton based artist Ollie Cook. His songwriting is an impressive bit of rock meets folk with contemplative lyrics and subtle, yet well placed rhythms. Sort of like a Damien Jurado type but with more tendencies to let things loose and rock from time to time. You’ll find this song progresses like a dream in its near 5 minute length.

If you’re digging this one, Cook has a new album entitled The Boy With Pearls for Eyes streaming over on Bandcamp.

Peter Matthew Bauer – New Single & Interview

As previously reported, our pal Peter Matthew Bauer has a new solo album called Flowers coming out next month via Bauer’s own indie label Fortune Tellers. Prior to that much anticipated release date, I am beyond excited to share a new single with you today along with a few quick questions Peter was kind enough to answer the other day. We talk about what it’s like making music as a solo musician, how life is getting back to normal (sort of), and what new music he’s been into recently. All of that, with new single “21st Century Station” after the jump.

Raucous New Single From Bandit

Clearly I’ve been in a rock, or just generally more upbeat mood when it comes to my musical selections and tastes this week. Liverpool based outfit Bandit is certainly scratching that itch today with this banging new single called “Vagabond”. The track has a very early 00s inspiration to it with clear influences of say Arctic Monkeys or even Kaiser Chiefs. It’s one hell of a fun tune and I suggest you check it out below.

Straight Rocker From Jaws The Shark

Jaws the Shark is the somewhat ironic musical moniker of London based musician Olly Bailey. He’s been busy since starting the new project in 2020 with tons of singles and an EP entitled Another Day in Paradise coming out last year. For me, Bailey makes a brand of hook laden, riff heavy rock n roll clearly inspired by the late 90s with Oasis vibes mixed with more modern rockers like Wavves or White Reaper. His new track released today, “Destroy the World”, features guest work from Dinosaur Pile-Up and is a perfect example of this straight rock n roll with modern touches style. This one is out today via all platforms from So Recordings.
