Post-Punker From Heir Traffic

Heir Traffic is a post-punk inspired band out of Melbourne with five lads who’ve been creating tunes and quietly releasing them over the last few years without a whole lot of press. As fans of their music, and also someone who wants to help young artists succeed, consider this a full endorsement of the band’s music. You’ll find several tracks on the band’s bandcamp page, but this new one, “Bogged,” is their latest in promotion of an upcoming album entitled NO HEARTH. It’s a noisy, energy filled affair with expert musicianship and loads to divulge and come back to. Love this stuff.

Heir Traffic will release NO HEARTH on August 26th. A limited vinyl run of the release is up for pre-order now.

Gordi Release Burn All The Time Machines Video

Our resident Australian Sophie Payten, under her recording name Gordi, has been consistently pumping out new music over the last year or so and seemingly working harder than most anyone else I know. I absolutely loved her album Our Two Skins from two summers ago, and I am already diving deep into her new Inhuman EP out today. In celebration of the new EP release, Payten has also shared a new lyric video for the track “Burn All the Time Machines”. If you aren’t just absolutely entranced and captivated by Payten’s vocals and atmospheric depth, well I’m not sure you are a living and breathing human. Happy Friday!

The new Inhuman EP from Gordi is streaming now on all platforms.

Blondshell Shares Sepsis

Blondshell is the Los Angeles based project of Sabrina Teitelbaum who has been picking up loads of praise from most of the major music sites over the last year. Though we aren’t always the types to post on big, buzz worthy bands, this new single called “Sepsis” is just a straight up Fing gem. It starts somewhat slow, almost in a singer/songwriter fashion, but quickly builds and expands into this raw, energy filled, almost Hole inspired banger of a track. You’ll find tons of emotion and passion packed into the 3.5 minute song.

In other news, Blondshell was just added to our very own ACL Festival in October. I heard one day tickets are still available.

Have Another Hit From Martha

Durham (UK) based outfit Martha has really begun to strike a chord with Nathan and I over here around the ATH offices. We love the bands take on garage rock with a flair for loud guitars paired with super catchy hooks and pop inspired beats. The band has delighted us yet again today with the release of this new single called “Baby, Does Your Heart Sink?” featuring more of those big, sweeping hooks and musically superb guitar leads. It’s one of my favorite tunes this month. Enjoy.

Martha also announced a new album entitled Please Don’t Take Me Back due out October 28th via Dirtnap Records.

New Double Single From Trash Man

With a band name like Trash Man, it’s going to be hard to drum up much information other than the sparse release details and whatnot via bandcamp pages and internet searches. In reality though, who needs information and silly details when you’re releasing songs like this new one “Are You Glad I’m Gone?”. It’s a very last 90s brand of indie rock for fans of early Weezer or even a more straightforward version of Pavement. The rocker A-side also comes with a B-side featuring a more indie pop ballad which plays nicely off of the focus track. Stay tuned for more from Trash Man out of Nashville, TN.

For now, check out several more jams on the Trash Man bandcamp page.

Indie Rock Stunner From Bo Milli

As we sort of wrap up our week and ease into the dreaded last weekend of summer, let me suggest you take this new song from Norwegian artist Bo Milli with you. The song, “How it Is”, is a straight up indie pop stunner. Though many of us have already moved on from our summer time playlists, this track could easily be in contention for one of the tops of the season. I love the quiet reservation of pop melding perfectly with the slightly distorted guitar arrangements. Stay tuned for more from Bo Milli later this fall.

Straight Rocker From Sweet Teeth

Man Lovely Records (sorry no umlaut with our font) out Sweden has really been dropping some gems over the last few years and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite, and most trusted European labels. Keeping with their sort of post-punk meets modern rockers on the label is this new tune called “Break My Heart Again” from the Swedish group Sweet Teeth. The track is a short one at under 2 minutes, but it packs a ton of raw energy and sludgy guitar sounds into that short length. It’s hard not to listen several times in a row.

Playful Pop Tune From Nancy

Brighton based artist NANCY really hit the ATH pages a couple of years ago with the artful and quirky pop release of the EP, Happy Oddities. After the EP, NANCY also dropped a “mini-LP” last year, to much fanfare from most of the biggest music publications out there. While most have been focused on some of the bigger things going on in the music world today, I was a little giddy when I saw a new LP announcement from NANCY along with the drop of this new single “Judy”. It’s straight up just a near perfect indie pop song worthy of a whole bunch of repeat listens. Check it out below.

Blame Recordings will be releasing the official debut LP from NANCY, entitled English Teacher, on October 28th.

Abraxas Share Sunrise State (Of Mind)

Abraxas is the psych pop duo of Carolina Faruolo (ex-Los Bitchos) and Lee Blackwell of Austin’s own Night Beats. With Faruolo bringing her Uruguayan roots of cumbia and psych rock, paired with Blackwell’s soul and R&B inspirations, the duo has managed to create their very own brand of cumbia/reggaeton vibing psych rock. What may sound like a mess of genres, comes across focused, playful and downright catchy as hell on the duo’s lead single “Sunrise State (Of Mind)”. Seriously, I think Blackwell and Faruolo have just created a whole new genre I’m calling cumbia psych. It’s a hell of a lot of fun.

Abraxas will be releasing a debut album entitled Monte Carlo on October 28th via Suicide Squeeze Records.

Pleased To Meet You: Morgana

Little is known about the Florence, Italy based band Morgana other than the limited information I can find on their bandcamp and facebook accounts. They appear to have a limited number of releases, with just a few singles and demos available online from the last couple of years. What I do know is that I am absolutely loving the sound of their latest single called “Arianne”. It’s part of a bigger collections of recordings under the title Contemporaneita which is an absolute stunner of raw, energy filled post-punk tunes. You can actually stream that 7 song album on bandcamp and even pick up a physical LP copy from the Australian based label Low Ambition Records. A solid start from a young band.
