Premiere: Psych Pop Stunner From Sunfruits

Having recently sung the praises of Birmingham, AL based label Earth Libraries, I am not surprised to once again be receiving some banging new jams from them in my inbox. Today they traveled all the way to Melbourne to bring a new single called “Made to Love” from the psych-pop outfit Sunfruits. Overall, I love the sunny, bright energy of the track with some hints of psych pop and totally rocking rhythm section. Think late 60s psych rock/pop like Spirit with a more modern and sleek approach. Hard not to hit repeat on this one immediately after it ends.

Earth Libraries will be bringing more from Sunfruits real soon. Stay tuned.

Bright Indie Pop From Pale Blue Eyes

If you’re out there looking for some bright indie pop tunes in your life, look no further than this gem called “Little Gem” from Totnes based outfit Pale Blue Eyes. The song is filling this void in an indie pop genre that has become ever diluted with artists looking to become pop stars and fill arenas. On the flip side of that, “Little Gem” offers this very playful and engaging sound with a great driving beat powering the track and never letting up for 3 minutes. Think The Drums pop stylings married with Wavves driving beats.

Pale Blue Eyes will release new album Souvenirs on September 2nd via Full Time Hobby. Pre-orders are live now.

Stream New EP From Mall Walker

As we get slammed sometimes later in the week with new music and various announcements, we often miss out on some great tunes as we wade through the muck. One of the things I missed out on last Friday was the killer, self-titled EP drop from Austin’s own Mall Walker. Though these gents feel like they may be quick to garnish the “emo revival” label, I see a lot more grit and hardcore tendencies from the band. Sure, the EP has some post-emo inspiration ala Braid or Jawbreaker, but the hints of post-punk and snarling vocals give this a sound truly their own. Definitely not just another “emo revival” band. Check out the full stream below.

Mall Walker’s new self-titled EP was out on Friday and is available as a vinyl release from Better Days Will Haunt You. Buy yourself a copy now.

Premiere: Peter Matthew Bauer Shares Miracles

Though the demise of the mighty Walkmen broke hearts here in the ATH offices, we’ve loved all the impressive material coming from the band’s members since the break up. Peter Matthew Bauer, former guitar player and songwriter for The Walkmen, has offered two delightful LPs since his band’s demise with Liberation! from 2014 and Mount Qaf from 2017. Here in the present, Bauer has prepped another new LP entitled Flowers slated for a release on September 23rd via Fortune Tellers Music. Prior to the full release, we’ve been given the sheer pleasure of dropping Bauer’s latest single “Miracles” for all you fans to consume and enjoy. The progression and production of this stellar tune is some of the best I’ve heard in quite some time. We’ve got the single along with a quote about the track from Peter after the jump.

Premiere: Mother Sun Share Webbed Feet

Man it seems like the Birmingham, AL based label Earth Libraries has been dropping so many great releases and discovering tons of new artists across the country over the last couple of years. Adding to their ever growing arsenal of up and coming artists is the Canadian based psych rockers Mother Sun and the news of an LP entitled Train of Thought coming on October 28th via the label. Prior to the release date, I am pumped to premiere with you the bands slick new single and accompanying visualizer for “Webbed Feet”. It’s a really fun and playful tune highlighting some of the best sounds in psych pop mixed with swinging melodies and downright dirty bass lines. A refreshing light in a muddy genre.

Another New Jam From Milly

Los Angeles based outfit Milly is quickly becoming one of my favorite new artists to emerge this year. The duos upcoming album, Eternal Ring, has been hitting me with all the feels for early aughts and late 90s style post-emo music with hints of slackerdom and guitar rock. If any of those sounds and styles sound intriguing to you, might I suggest you check out the bands latest single “Ring True”. I love the way this band can pull off these sort of subtle, mellow moments and then kick it up a notch with some loud guitar.

Eternal Ring is out on September 30th via Dangerbird Records. Pre-orders are live now.

Grooving New Tune From Gold Star

Marlon Rabenreither is a Los Angeles based songwriter who has spent the last decade creating music under the moniker Gold Star. Though it’s been quite awhile since we’ve heard from Rabenreighter or posted about him on our site, his new single “Cherry Red” is a nice way to welcome him back to the ATH pages. The song is perfect for his California home as one can almost envision oneself driving down a coastal highway with the driving nature of “Gold Star” on the radio. It’s atmospheric and hazy, yet also bright and full of Americana inspiration.

This track will appear on new album Headlights U.S.A. Parts I & II due out on September 30th. Pre-orders are live now.

Dan Mangan Shares Fire Escape Video/Single

A quick search for the name Dan Mangan on our site will return a massive amount of posts from the Vancouver based songwriter over the years. Simply put, I am a huge fan. As a follower of Mangan’s work, I am excited to be sharing his latest single “Fire Escape” which features an incredibly well shot video featuring Steven Ogg (you may recognize him from The Walking Dead). If for some reason you have yet to check out the music of Dan Mangan, this should be a perfect entry point.

Mangan is also heading out on tour this fall. Check out dates here.

Slick New Tune From Jake Tittle

Jake Tittle is a Los Angeles based singer/songwriter who has been making and recording music in the SoCal area for near on seven years at this point. Though you may not yet be familiar with Mr. Tittle, I am sure you will start giving him your attention after having a listen to his new song “Fair Warning”. I love his craft here as a songwriter who doesn’t simply strum a guitar and sing, but also offers some really slick backing beats to turn the song into much more of a summer jam. Give it a listen.

Jake Tittle has plans for a new full length album coming out hopefully later this summer.

Shutups Share Endless Heaven

Before we dismiss you for the day, I would be remiss to not send you on your way with this new song called “Endless Heaven” from Oakland based group Shutups. I’m a huge fan of the way the song lulls you into this mellow, sort of indie rock groove and then explodes into this banging, heavy guitar rock number about 1.5 minutes in. When looking for a song to progress slowly, rise heavily, and then fall again into a fade out, this is the song for you. Absolutely stellar production on this one as well.

Shutups will release this track on new album Can’t Eat Nearly as Much as I want to Vomit which is due out on October 21st via Kill Rock Stars (pre-order now).
