Beautiful New Tune From Ava McCoy

It’s likely that you are not familiar with the up and coming New York City based musician Ava McCoy, but I am looking to get her name and music in your head today. She has quietly been writing and releasing music for the last couple of years with her debut LP coming out later this month. For a sample of what’s ahead, you need to check out this new single “Sedona” which came out just last week. I really dig her take on the hushed, songwriter genre with just enough twang and delicate instrumentation to make this one a winner. You can say hello to Ava on IG or Bandcamp.

Stray Fossa Ready Sophomore Album

Charlottesville based band Stray Fossa released their debut LP With You For Ever around this time last year and it quickly became a favorite around the ATH offices. While we are still spinning the debut, the band has stayed busy and is hitting us again in 2022 with the announcement of their sophomore release Closer Than We’ll Ever Know coming in June. Prior to the summer release date, the band has graciously allowed us to share the very first new track from the release entitled “Transpiring”. This one shows a band continuing to evolve their indie pop sound now with heavy doses of dreaminess and a slick groove sure to get your body moving. Check it out.

Closer Than We’ll Ever Know will be released on June 3rd via Born Loser Records. Pre-orders are already live.

New Tune From Big Nothing

Well it looks like we are all stuck inside for the day in Austin so what better time to site around and put some new music on as we try to find things to do. My pals in Philadelphia based band Big Nothing have this new song called “Still Sorta Healing” which should offer some brightness during our cold and dreary day. I love the dream pop vibe akin to say Alvvays but with a touch more of an ever so slightly distorted guitar to give it this nice, subtle edge to it at times. I think you’ll love it.

Big Nothing will release new album Dog Hours on February 18th via Lame-O Records.

Intimate Tune From Spencer Hoffman

Spencer Hoffman is a young, up and coming musician who has spent the last 10 years in the SoCal music scene, most notably in the group Honyock. Coming into 2022, he has stepped out on his own with a new solo EP entitled A Flower From Behind coming out on February 25th via Park the Van Records. Prior to his release date, Hoffman has dropped this lovey tune called “Like a Bird” which gives off a strong, early Neil Young vibe with it’s twangy guitar and high pitched vocals. I think you’ll find it fits in well with our overcast winter days.

New Video/Single From Film School

If you’ve read the pages of ATH over the years, you must know that we are all huge fans of Los Angeles based outfit Film School. The band recently dropped their 6th studio album entitled We Weren’t Here just this past September which has seen heavy rotation around our offices. Of course if you have yet to check out the new album, might I recommend you hit play on this new single/video for album track “Said Your Name” to give yourself a reason to check out the entire full length. Overall things have a very new wave vibe in both sound and visual but also with that intimate, shoegaze touch we know and love from Film School.

Film School’s latest album We Weren’t Here is available for purchase now via Sonic Ritual.

Hollow Hand Drop New Single

It is a bright, sunny day here in Austin, TX with many of us on vacation, or at the very least, putting in short days as we wind down a brief week. Though he isn’t exactly from the land of sunny mornings, Brighton based Max Kinghorn-Mills, under his recording moniker Hollow Hand, has the perfect new tune for clear skies and hopeful days. His latest, “One Last Summer”, features a sort of folk inspired pop sound harkening back to say CSNY but with more modern Americana vibes like Fruit Bats. Hopefully it brightens your morning.

Kinghorn-Mills reports that this track is the first taste of a new LP in the works. No release date as of yet.

Driving New Tune From Sei Still

Berlin by way of Mexico based upstarts Sei Still released a stunning debut LP last year but have no plans to slow down in 2021 with more new music on the way. The first taste of new music from the group comes in the form of this driving new single “Exilio” which is the crazy melding of German style electronic music with a new wave meets gothic influence. Sort of like Cold Cave if they leaned a bit heavier into a Joy Division vibe. I do hope you dig it.

This track will appear on new album El Refugio due out on November 26th via Fuzz Club Records.
