Impressive New Single From Kosmonaut

Very little is known about UK based band Kosmonaut, but I’m looking to change that as best I can by sharing their sweet tunes. Up for your listening pleasure today is this new single “Silver Star”. It reminds me of really early Colourmusic, meets the Smiths, meets 90s era folk rock. A bit of a long comparison I suppose… It will all make sense once you hit play and enjoy this stellar new tune.

Kosmonaut have their latest album Misfits on the Horizon for sale over on bandcamp right now.

You Need to Check out Hearty Har

Maybe stop what you’re doing right now and check out this hot new track “Creation Frustration” from L.A. based band Hearty Har. It’s like if MGMT, Portugal the Man., and you’re favorite weird psych band all got together and made babies. You cant deny the band has one hell of a lot of energy and sound like one of the tightest groups I’ve heard in a while. Carry on.

Stay tuned for more from Hearty Har in the future.

Beautiful Folk From Cameron Blake

Hopefully we all survived the weekend of torrential downpours and took the safe route on the way to work this morning. While hunkered down for 3 straight days, I found myself really enjoying this song “After Sally” from Michigan based songwriter Cameron Blake. The track is a nice blend of acoustic, folk-pop music similar to Austinites Okervil River or one of the older songs from The Decemberists. Have a listen and stay dry people.

Cameron Blake will release Fear Not on November 17th.

Wandering Folk From Floating Action

Nathan and I have been lamenting the start of the school year this week, and I’ve been searching for some tunes to help ease my burden. Helping to erase my sorrows today is this track called “Last of the Wild Cards” from Seth Kaufman and his project known as Floating Action. The song isn’t exactly some bright and sunny one to brighten your mood, it more summarizes my current feelings. It’s a little bit slow, a bit sad, and totally the slacker mentality I’m in as the weekend enters. Wandering folk. I just made that up.

Floating Action will release Is It Exquisite? on September 8th via PIAPTK and OK Recordings.

Let’s Have Another From Dead Stars

It’s clear that ATH has a love affair with Brooklyn band Dead Stars. When a new song by the band comes around, we are going to share it with our readers. Continuing their output of songs worthy of more than a few listens is this latest single “Smarter”. Once again you will find yourself lost in the grunge, alternative throwback, guitar driven rock the band seems to create effortlessly. Rock n roll with guitar as a focus is not dead my friends.

In case you weren’t aware, new LP Perfect Patterns is out on September 1st (pre-order).

Mellow Pop From Far Lands

Portland by way of Cincinnati artist Andy McFarlane has been writing, composing, and creating art for close to 20 years at this point in his life. Though rarely one to delve into the music world, Andy teamed up with pal Matt Drenik to release some stellar music under the name Far Lands. The two sat together in a home studio and produced an albums worth of new material featuring this new song “Lowlands”. This song, and the others on the under 30 minutes album, feature a very minimalist approach to pop songwriting. In particular, “Lowlands” tends to meander a bit with its pop tendencies while still holding the listener captive throughout. Keep it simple stupid if you will.

Far Lands will release Oh What an Honor/Oh What a Drag on October 13th.

Video Premiere: Nomads – Phasmophobia

I’ve been getting on board with this NOMADS train for the last few months or so and am growing my fandom as more music comes my way. At first it was something a bit different for me, but now it’s become something that I am completely in to. Today I’m elated to share a premiere of this video for new phobia themed song “Phasmophbia”. Featuring drums from Brian Wolfe (David Byrne & St. Vincent/The Dap Kings) this video/song is an electronic jam which features the Brooklyn groups unique take on what you once thought a live show should be. Creativity and a thoughtful new take on the elctronic/snyth genre are clearly present in this new track “Phasmophbia”. Check it out below:

Delightful New Tune From Covey

What a pleasant surprise finding this new single “Same White Shoes” from Boston based outfit Covey. The song is a sort of slacker folk style of song which manages to be fun and playful while still maintaining that drab style. It’s an interesting and fun take on an older indie folk style that is sure to warrant repeat listens. Check it out below.

Covey will self-release Haggarty on September 22nd.

Powerful Number From CREO

Well now that’s an introduction to a band. Yes this new song called “Subtitles For X, Y, Z” is proving as a very strong first step forward for Sydney based outfit CREO. It’s rare to find a song which seemingly evolves into 2-3 different styles as we are taking through the depths of the three and a half minute opus. What begins as anthemic rock similar to earlier Arcade Fire build and builds as it ends with over a minute of gritty and angry, throaty vocal infused rock. We can all find a little something to like in that right?

CREO will release new EP Subtitles For X, Y, Z on September 8th.

Dreamy New Track From Widowspeak

The Brooklyn music scene am I right? It’s like a new band comes our way from the area almost everyday and it continues to shock me. We represent Brooklyn again today with this track called “The Dream” from Widowspeak. It’s definitely a dream pop number reminiscent of pioneers like Beach House or even newbies like Alvvays. You are sure to sink in and be swept away with the beauty of this track.

Widowspeak will release Expect the Best on August 25th via Captured Tracks.
