Flesh Cherub Offers Blind Single

My personal aim for 2026 is to continue to operate all over the musical map, within the realm of my personal tastes. For me, an artist like Flesh Cherub is one of those haunting voices that you turn to when the world seems at its grimmest moment; there’s this heavily pained delivery, yet it’s got this uncommon beauty to it that keeps me thinking of a world between Jeff Buckley and King Krule…striking imperfection! The weight of the guitar strum was so soulful that it soaked deep into my skin, unable to scrub it off (not that I wanted to!). While there’s a definite vibe in the first half, wait for the burst of noise that greets you around the 2:05 mark, carrying the song into this splendid world of where serenity and cacophony do a proper dance. The artist will release Drowning in the Expanse of Looking Up on January 17th via Crossing House.

Another Bop from Milano Flash

Just before the end of the year rang out, we brought you news of a new act from Sweden helmed by the Angergard brothers; the duo are known for their roles in Red Sleeping Beauty and Club 8, respectively, but they recruited Eleni Tzavara for vocals as they kicked off Milano Flash. Once 2026 hit, the band wasted no time dropping this heavily synthetic banger; the thumping alone got me excited, but then they added some nostalgic “whoa oh” moments throughout to maximize the hooks. Eleni’s performance almost feels like its disco-adjacent, smoky and nearing digitalization, with each line delivered as the groove punches through the roof. Have a little fun with this ditty.

New Winged Wheel Single Drops

It amazes me how indifferent the indie scene seems to be to Winged Wheel. The band features indie rock stalwart Fred Thomas, rock legend Steve Shelley…not to mention folks like Cory from Spray Paint, Whitney Johnson and Matthew J. Rolin; this is a fucking indie rock supergroup if there ever was one! So yeah…they’ve got anew single from their forthcoming Desert So Green LP, and it operates in the fashion of a discordant Stereolab; the progression of the song definitely pulls from a psychedelia meets kraut-rock fusion, losing all pigeon-holing as it spins you around and around. I loved the cavernous effects that rocked through the vocals, seemingly distant yet locked into the front of the mix so it draws you further into the tune. The latter half of the song has this great little breakdown that twinkles and sparkles into this harrowing bit of psychedelia that should have your ears pinned back so you can grab a copy of the new LP; it hits on January 9th via 12XU.

Fresh Music from Ghost Plains

Welcome to 2026 my friends! Thought I would kick off this year with a tune from Ghost Plains, delivering you this incredible rhythm section that instantly got me out of my bed; it’s thumping and quick, pushing this infectious groove. On the vocal trip, they’re presented in a slightly dreamy fashion, like a misty haze showering upon the upbeat pulse. In doing so, your shoulders sway from side to side while your head drifts off into the world, lost in the freedom of finer pop provisions. You’ll find this track on the Cardiff outfits newest EP titled Fear Patterns, which dropped just before we signed off in 2025.

Fun Noise Rock from Tiers la Familia

November was filled with tons of last minute releases, often overlooked as folks hustled towards their list-making. One record I’ve been digging a lot is The Love Synthesis LP from Tiers la Familia; it’s the newest project from Joe Sefyu Sidney, featuring Jeff Tobias (Sunwatchers) and Cheryl Kingan. “Deep State Nine” was the first banger on the record that got me moving, hitting with these heavily pulsing synths and stuttering vocal delivery; it feels frantic, then opens up into this fun little tribal joy that totally had me hooked. You’ll also get some weird style pop like “Pan el Pan,” which feels like all these overlapping synth lines have lost control of their souls. Just dig in here, and be grateful to the folks at Debacle Records who put it out!

As we draw near the end of 2025, I wanted to dive through all my emails sitting in here, old and new, and just kind of let the last of the year’s singles trickle out. There’s some new stuff, but mostly stuff like this track from the True Music Symbol that’s been hanging around in my head for a minute. I connected with this one here in particular as it’s a pretty solitary tune, primarily working with a light strum that leaves plenty of room for the vocals to kind of hang heavily and resonate with the listener, akin to Winter listens for those who love a Bill Callahan type figure. It’s unsettling in the best way, so hopefully you find some joy in listening.

Much like Nathan, I feel like our days in the blogging world are numbered as we continue to see others in the game either falter, put up gaudy pay walls, or liter their sites with intrusive ads. We’ve said it before, this is all just a labor of love for us, and maybe this is why we can press on when others end or drastically change – it’s all just fun for us, our livelihoods don’t depend on it. So we’re gonna press on and keep doing this thing until it starts feeling like real work, and we hope you’ll continue to stick with us and maybe, just maybe enjoy our rambling. And yeah, year end lists are cliche and silly, but a song playlist is enjoyable for me (see keeping the joy is important). I’ve loved diving into playlists from folks I trust, and hopefully you will enjoy my attempt at trimming my favorites down to 100. The Death of the Internet Is Here

It’s a band, folks! Swedish producer the Death of the Internet has just dropped this banger of a tune, and seeing as we just dropped a melancholy jam, we had to turn that around. The immediacy of this tune is felt from the get-go, using those drum samples to loop in a propulsive rhythm that will instantly have your toes tapping. Then the angular guitars knife their way in, shooting between snaps of the rhythm, creating this dense cavernous post-punk sound that will likely remind you of the poppier Blank Dogs tracks. Really excited to hear more from this project, so hope we get more in the new year.

Missed Out on Puppyy

I generally do my best to keep an eye on the goings-on over in Melbourne, but somehow I missed out on the solid work of Puppyy. It’s mostly the one-man product of Michael Gibbon, who has managed to flesh out these ballads throughout the whole of the latest release, World Record. At times, you get some traditional slow-core balladry, but the tune below has just the slightest pick-up in energy, relying upon the heaviness of the strum to provide the slightest glimpse of movement; the extra guitar angling in also plays its part in crafting that feeling. If you’re looking to cozy up with a great intimate listen, you’d be advised to dive in here.

Club 8 Share Daydreams

When it comes to Club 8, I tend to speak hyperbolically, claiming that each single the group drops is better than the last, putting them on some meteoric rise to pop stardom. Now, with that in mind, this might not be their best (pretty close), but it’s my favorite of the jams they’ve let us have this year (one a month!); it dances on the guitar lines, nearing the brand of pop that made everyone fall in love with Camera Obscura. The vocals are perfectly cooled, hanging in the right spot to maximize the emotional appeal; the energetic push behind those warm notes only makes the song all the more masterful. Thanks to the group for all they’ve shared with us this year!
