Tunes from One Day As a Lion

Maybe this is nostalgia, or maybe I’m sincerely interested – I’ll figure that out later. Zach de la Rocha’s new group, One Day As a Lion has just released a song in hopes of garnering interest before their debut album comes out next Tuesday, July 22nd, on Anti Records. Now, if Zach de la Rocha doesn’t get your attention, then maybe drummer Jon Theodore will. That’s right; he’s the drummer from the original Mars Volta line-up, you know, back when they blew you away instead of jamming you to sleep!  That guy can bang the drums.

Unfortunately, the only way you can listen to the track is if you visit this social networking site

Reviewin’ Old Tunes

Well, it’s a bit slow around the music business during these sweltering summer days. So, with little to review, I’ve opted to disclose some of my old favorites.  The first up is The Glands self tilted album from 2000. Hopefully, we will have these reviews popping in and out during the next few weeks as new releases are scattered and scarce.

Weird Wednesdays @ Alamo

After you’ve done the Blues on the Green thing, why not head on over to the Alamo downtown for Weird Wednesdays? This, as always, is also a free event put on by the cool kids at Alamo with things getting started at midnight. This weeks showing brings us The Female Bunch directed by Al Adamson in 1969. IMDB tags the show with “Women who live by their own rules… They dare to do what other women only dream about! Their law is the whip–their trademark the branding iron!” Read more on the Alamo Drafthouse website.

Waterloo Video Closing

Your favorite video store in town, Waterloo Video, is closing its doors sometime in mid-august.  Sounds like they will be moving all the non-rental type videos into a newly remodeled Waterloo Record Store.  So that means Waterloo is officially out of the rental business.  Too bad.  Good news is, Video store closings = video store sales.  So pay your last respects to Waterloo video sometime in the next month and stock up on the cheap stuff.

Okie Noodling 2 @ Alamo

Tonight (7/6) at 7:30pm the alamo downtown will have a viewing of Bradley Beesley’s much anticipated sequel Okie Noodling 2 with Bradley Beesley himself on hand. The movie is a follow up to the wildly popular first installment of Okie Noodling which came out way back in 2001. We here at ATH are crazy excited about the movie because it features a new song from our favorite Oklahomans The Flaming Lips. Don’t know what Noodling is? Read up on wikipedia. Buy your tickets for the show & watch a trailer on the Draft House website.

The Record Store

Our favorite record store, Waterloo Records, was recently featured in Paste Magazine as being one of the best record stores in America. The article talks about the highly underrated experience of visiting a record store in a download only world. Check out the article on Paste’s website.
