Republic Of Austin/ACL Picks

A fairly new blog to town, Republic of Austin, just wrote up a little blurb about myself and the ATH website.  He also included my picks for this year’s ACL Festival.  This is all part of the site’s plan to run features about local bloggers/musical people and their favorite things about ACL.  Check it out.  Now the internet knows what I look like.. aaaahhhh!  Oh and many thanks for the kind words friend.

Cursive on Daytrotter

cursiveDaytrotter really made my day this week by throwing up a session with Cursive.  Not only do they include a song off Domestica, which is my favorite album by the group, but they included several unreleased covers that you likely can’t get anywhere else…one of them is “Love Cats!”  Why not go check it out.

Also, Daytrotter ran a Rock Plaza Central post a few days back , which is also worth the visit.

BSS ACL After Party (10/2)

So we’ve just heard news that WOXY, Voodoo Cowboy Entertainment, and Rare Magazine are joining forces to put on an ACL after party featuring Canadian supergroup Broken Social Scene.  The event will be taking place at the Seaholm Power Plant on the first night of ACL (10/2).  Things will get started at 10pm and the event is totally free!  RSVP here.  I’m going to dare say that you might want to show up early if you plan on getting in.  Stay tuned for information on what they have planned for Saturday night.

Prints For Non Profits

Don’t forget about our ATH sponsored Prints for Non Profits event tomorrow!  Some great bands will be playing and FREE Lone Star will be provided.  Yeah yeah, we know UT is playing on Saturday, but I highly doubt any of you can afford to go.  Plus, who can pass up free beer?  duh.  More info can be found on the ‘original post.  Things are going down at 6pm.

More Fun Fest Leaks

FFF_VINTAGE_ORANGE_ROCKWe were shutdown on Friday for this badass new ATH V2 so we missed the second wave of Fun Fest leaks.  Today the third round of leaks has hit the internet so we’ll tell you about the 2nd and 3rd leaks all in one post.  Second wave additions are: Harlem, Fucked UpAlaska in Winter, and Brian Posehn.  Leaks today are: Destroyer, Mika Miko, Metallagher, and Shonen Knife.  These bands are in addition to the ones we leaked Thursday along with several other artist like King Khan and Shearwater who were confirmed many moons ago.  Full lineup will be posted tomorrow.

Sound And The Jury Contest

couch_trackACL has just announced their annual Sound and the Jury Festival and our good friends Whitman are currently near the top of the leader board.  If you aren’t familiar with the contest, bands from all over the US enter for the chance to win a spot at this years ACL festival in August.  Tons of bands are in the running right now, but eventually the top 5 bands will face off in a battle of the bands with the winner taking the early ACL slot.  We hope that you can take some time to vote for our friends Whitman who work harder than any band we know.  You can vote only once a day so get to it!  We’ll keep you posted on the results.

Wilco To Play In… WilCo?

wilcoSo word is now out that Wilco will be returning to the Austin area.  We say Austin area because you’ll be surprised to hear that the show isn’t even in Travis county and may require a stiff drive for some of you.  The now legendary band just announced that they will be playing a show October 8th at the recently opened Cedar Park Center in Williamson County (get it Wilco plays WilCo?).  The brand new arena will primarily be used for AHL ice hockey team the Texas Stars so we’re a bit confused on the venue choice.  Wilco is not the only act in the musical plans for the arena with George Strait and Kelly Clarkson both signed up for future shows.  Wilco, in a hockey arena?  In Cedar Park?  Um, okay.  Sounds like a plan that could go horribly wrong.  Tickets are not on sale at this time with no word on when they will be made available.
