ATH Presents: Matt Kivel @ Community Garden (12.12)

We don’t always curate shows, but when we do, you know we love something wholly, like Matt Kivel. The artist, currently living in Austin, will release his new long-player, Escape from LA, on December 12th via Scissor Tail Records, so to throw our weight behind his work, we’re sponsoring his show over at Community Garden. You’ll find the record is mostly filled with really gentle ballads, the sort that seems perfectly fitting for a small space like Community Garden. He’ll be joined by several friends playing some short sets, like Alex Dupree, so be sure to come and hang out with us all. Things will kick off around 6:30, with copies of the LP available to buy!

Dog Chocolate Announce So Inspired So Done In

UK outfit Dog Chocolate have sat in silence the last several years, but they’re quiet no more, returning today with the announcement of So Inspired, So Done In. They offer up the first single too, which is sort of this off-kilter, punk adjacent rocker, operating with sharp angular notes and a mixture of vocal approaches. Rob’s voice is a little bit of a drone, coming to terms with his self-employment; Andrew takes a different approach, offering up a very British appeal in which he discusses his role of playing a cog in the machine of industrialization. Look for the group’s new LP to arrive next February via Upset the Rhythm.

As you dive into your day, you likely are looking for a sound that feels just right, and well, you’ll find it by listening to the new single from Le Corbeau. They’ve crafted a sound that feels akin to the power-pop of Teenage Fanclub, swirling with guitar-monies and fuzzy ambiance. Seated in the middle of all that delectable feedback is this dulcet voice, mixing it up to where it walks the tightrope between speaking and singing, yet always charming. Hai Chairs Drop Fresh Single

With the weather trending towards chilly down here in Texas, I needed to wake up with something that would blanket me in a wee bit of warmth…that was the new tune from Hai Chairs. The UK are offering up this brilliant bit of bubbling indie rock, melding it with these wonderful little backing arrangements that impressively build in texture that blankets your listen. I really loved the tonal vocal change in the chorus, especially as you can hear the growling guitar working heavily in the background, far behind the twinkle of the piano notes that shine up front. I super love their sound, and hope you find your own warmth by jamming below.

Cootie Cathcher Share Straight Drop Video

One of the many albums on our radar for next year is the new long-player from Cootie Catcher; the group have been on our pages countless times before, but they seem to be building towards huge buzz in 2026. Their brand new single finds the group locking into the modern guitar pop boldness; they feel like they’re playing in the same territory as the most recent Beths record. For a band that employs all sort of playful harmonies, this track is all about the driving guitars and smattering of drums, creating this noisy pop rock sensation that should make you rush to pre-order the LP. Such a great song, and we’re thinking that Something We All Got is going to be equally as great, so pick it up from Carpark Records.

Qiensave Drop Sed de Tu Amor

As we wind down the year, I’m still going through emails and listening to songs that I might have missed; I definitely have rediscovered my love for some solid cumbia tunes too, like the latest from Qiensave. The group has a sort of combo, working in some of the cumbia style with a little bit more soulfulness, allowing listeners to swing with their charms. That little guitar shuffle totally gets me every time, gets my feet moving beneath me as my hips sway side to side. If you’ve been dabbling in the chicha sounds of psychedelic cumbia, you’re definitely going to appreciate the vibes in this jam below.

That New Makthaverskan Track

You likely heard this through the paywall the other day, but I couldn’t miss a chance to post new Makthaverskan music, as the vocal performance on this fresh single is absolutely huge. Sure, the swirling angularities are never a bad thing for me ears, particularly they way they slightly jangle in this mix, but let’s be real, Maja Milner steals the show. Something in Milner’s voice embraces this fervent nature, though I think she cleverly pulls it back from the more crystalline belters to offer a subtle melody in some of the spaces; you can’t deny the power present below. Their album Glass and Bones will be out in April of next year courtesy of Welfare Sounds.

Shipshape Drop Debut EP

Make no mistake about it, the women of Austin’s music scene have been putting the boys in check for…well, since we had a music scene. Deborah White was one such powerhouse, and she’s just recently returned to the fold with her new project, Shipshape, dropping a collection of “MILF punk” hits for the masses. She’s recruited Austin staple Liz Burrito and Kasey Maloney, all of whom trade around songwriting duties, providing listeners with a varied brand of rock n’ roll magic. I love the howl of “In Your Head,” but the thundering drums of “Habit” don’t hurt my feelings either. Listen to their new self-titled EP courtesy of Post Party Depression Records.

T.G. Shand Unleashes New Single

We’ve been fortunate enough to hear what T.G. Shand has been up to on a couple of occasions over the last few months, with a handful of singles breaking out in 2025. Her latest seems to move her further towards lush dream pop, to a place where you’ll meet Kate Bush nostalgia and modern bedroom pop masterpieces. Synths hit and roll across the tune, with Annemarie Duff’s vocals shadowed behind those beats, every so often pulling back the curtain to reveal a clear vision of modern pop. The Notwist Announce News from Planet Zombie

Was behind the paywall when news broke that the Notwist were returning with a brand new album, and upon the first listen, it does feel a bit like they’ve returned to some of their earlier fascinations. Our first hint has the group opening with a thunderous rhythm, as bit of synthetic structures seems to build behind that bounding noise. Moving the track forward, the vocals embrace a little solemnity from within, carefully sitting in the middle of a mix; ends of verses seem to be emphasized by a shattering of crashing drums/cymbals, ensuring the group are still working on their experimental approach to songwriting (though rumor has it this was recorded live in studio with all members present!). News from Planet Zombie arrives on March 13th.
