Skloss Share Veto Powder

After dropping The Pattern Speaks, Skloss are back at it this year with a brand new single, bringing their thunderous brand of psychedelia to the masses. Sandy’s heavy guitar wailing continuously builds this massive wave of noise that shatters the cones in your speakers, but it only works with Karen’s drum work. Every song they play, she’s banging those drums like its the last set on Earth and she’s determined to break it into pieces. They offer some heavily affected vocals this round, bringing in a bit of that sort of interstellar-psych mood into the picture. They’re currently over in the UK hitting a few shows, then they come back to win over audiences at Levitation!

Another Single from Jouska

Feels like perhaps we’re best suited to begin our day reveling in the joys of the Norwegian craft, so we return to Jouska, who just put out another single from How Did I Wind Up Here. I’ve really enjoyed listening to the contrast of the sound’s here; the strum feels as if its just traipsing along, lightly present but eager to just hide. With the vocals, there’s a bit more pop to contrast with the feel, which works leading up to a brief little burst and bubble of emphasis, only to retreat back within itself. A feathered pop ballad filled with a majestic quality that you’ll surely appreciate; look for the new LP on October 17th.

Veps Share New Music

Wanted to jump into Friday with a little bit of a light spirit, so this track from Norwegian outfit Veps seems like it built for opening up our Friday jam session. This single is a shout out to being totally and madly in love, so much so that you’re willing to throw caution to the wind. Musically, the spirit abides by that, sort of embracing a kind of post garage rock sound, embedded with deep roots in pop structures. Sort of akin to what the Beths have been doing on their recent work, holding onto the joy of the moment…all of it tethered to the thematic statement. This tune comes with news that they’ve signed on to work with PNKSLM, so this is their first single with the label!

Frog Announce The Count

If you have not joined the growing mass of fans following Frog, then today is hopefully the day that the project turns your head. They’re a prolific outfit operating out of New York, and as of now, remain an undefined outfit. Are they indie rock? Is it art rock? Where are they headed? That’s the mystery, and we’re the recipients of their continuous exploration of the confines of pop music. This new single operates with a heavy bit of keys as the backbone, throwing a falsetto that nears classic R&B pipes roaming free atop the skeletal set of pulsing beats and rhythm. It’s a new jam for the masses, a final Dracula themed masterpiece titled The Count, which drops on September 19th.

Fan Club Share Roach Motel

There’s no pussyfooting around today, as Fan Club (formerly known as Lysol) aims to throw us right into the mix with this furious pummeling of punk and noise. The guitar shreds through your speakers in an instant, with drums smashing as if they’re propelled by some robotic madman, thundering through your speakers at breakneck speed. Guitars skitter and knife through, letting the drums run rampant as Noah Earl Fowler embarks on a stalking of the listener, walking the line between growling at them through the microphone and encouraging them to circle up and march along with him. In under a minute they hurl through the wall, smashing everything with a furious seduction by noise. Look for their new Stimulation EP via Feel It Records on September 5th.

Pynch Share How You Love Someone

The guitar work in this track will be what draws you in, but what will make you fall in love with this new Pynch track is the way they execute the chorus; it’s a brilliant moment that makes every second of the tune worth cranking up. Light ringing jangles seduce you, but when the line of “how you love someone” rains upon you, the emotional impact creates this sublime moment that has you recognizing the promise of their forthcoming effort, Beautiful Noise. I also really appreciate the way the latter half of the tune opens up with some synthesized stretches of pop, highlighting the hook and driving it into the brain of the listener. Chillburn Records will release the album on October 3rd.

 

Lillian King Announces In Your Long Shadow

As we near the long weekend, perhaps we should begin our Thursday with this pensive tune from Lillian King as she announces her debut, In Your Long Shadow. On the leading single, the production is elegant, but seemingly sparse, with piano lines and drum rolls lurking in the distance of the track; the majority of the tune is dominated by King’s drifting voice, boldly cresting atop the light musical arrangements. The entirety of the tune gracefully wades into your room, drifting as the fan blows over your head, and just circulates, letting you ponder on the goals of today. For myself, I’ll be listening to this track a couple more times, then looking for the LP; it drops on October 24th via Pronounced Kroog.

Brand New Sharp Pins Album

After a reissue of Radio DDR, which included some brand new singles, Kai Slater’s project Sharp Pins has a new release scheduled to drop before the end of the year. What I love about his solo work is how it pulls from a classic pop songwriting sensibilityl; there are melodies galore, but he consistently brings in just enough of a stomping groove that you feel as if you’re rocking out. That perfect balance is so rare, something accomplished by the greats like Bolan or Chilton, and perhaps that’s too much pressure for such a young artist…but Slater doesn’t seem to mine as he’s churning out incredible hits like the ditty below. Balloon Balloon Balloon will be out November 21st via K/Perennial Records.

Unfiltered Records Announces 65th and York LP

The name of Drew Stroik might have been more of a household name had things turned out differently, but the artist working under the name STROIK tragically lost his battle to substance abuse several years ago. But, Unfiltered Records is ready to celebrate the spirit and the work of the artist with a collection of his tunes titled 65th and York…working simultaneously as a posthumous debut and bedroom pop masterpiece. When I first pressed play, Drew’s voice has this immediate connection, welcoming you into his little musical world; the textures that he began to build illustrated his willingness to explore where bedroom pop could go. All the while, there’s this charming simplicity, holding tight to the best of the human spirit that pervades the crisp guitar notes. Such a song should be celebrated, and it will be. You can also WATCH a trailer for a documentary concerning STROIK titled Unknown Pop Wizard, which will be out in 2026. The LP will be out on October 24th.

No Peeling Share Pink Flamingoes

For all its frantic nature and quick quirks, the newest track from No Peeling is the sort of cleanser you need in your life; it will have you bouncing from one note to the next, leap-frogging your way across the continuous juxtaposition of musical moments. One guitar seems to be climbing up the wall, while the other seems to be scratching at your insides, and all the while, there’s this sort of scientific spoken fashion delivery on the vocal side; it’s like your part of some ginormous musical experiment that you can’t pull yourself away from. If you’d like to take part in the scientific realm of music, grab the No Peeling EP from Feel It Records on September 5th.
