Grant Pavol Announces Left That Party

As things have gone lately, Grant Pavol has had a pretty busy schedule, writing and working with Shamir. But, he’s found the time to work on his stuff too, which is why we’re really stoked to hear another track from the forthcoming Left That Party EP. In the press release, it makes a nod to both Alex Chilton and Tony Molina, and you can certainly hear where the Molina-esque moments cruise through this delight. Pavol embraces a softness in his own voice, while the power of the guitars taking on these dreamy alternative vibes that coat the song in a melodic heaviness we know you’ll appreciate. The new EP will bring a much needed dose of pop rock your way on May 9th!

Caleb Nichols Releases Dark Age

I know that there are old music nerds throwing around names like Elliott Smith from time to time, and while I hate a good pigeonhole, I think that this new track from Caleb Nichols might just be too good not to make that comparison. At first, the recording brought me that early Smith intimacy; you can hear the fingers sliding across the strings, echoing as if you were sitting in a room with Nichols. Then, just absorb the dulcet vocal tones, but only for a moment, as he switches around the 44 second mark into a lighter whisper, almost straining to take us to more angelic territory…and all of that just before the 1 minute mark. His new LP, Stone Age is Back, will be out this October via Royal Oakie.

Dress Warm Share Louisiana Purchase

I have been keeping a steady ear on Austin outfit Dress Warm, as they seem to offer consistently solid indie rock from within the confines of our city limits. Their latest single hits all the right notes, letting the song sort of move in and out, carefully crafting each step. Certain moments bring out the forceful rock side, particularly in the way the tune kicks off, though that blast subsides so the melodies can sneak into your earholes. When they let that guitar note sort of ring out in the front of the mix, then allow space behind it, the song completely lifts, even featuring some spectacular noodling to illustrate the group’s musicianship. The High Water Marks Share The Works

Surely you have been listening to all our encouraging hype surrounding The High Water Marks, as they’ve been one of my go-to acts over the last several years. Today, they’ve shared a brand new single with us from the new EP, and it has them tight-roping along their sound. Clicking play, you’ll hear the chugging of riffs, bouncing but with just a bit of an edge…this is where they get the “power” nod from all the fans. However, those instant handclaps are a warning of their penchant for twisting gritty vibes into pop masterpieces. This tune has overlapping melodies on the vocals that kick in this delicious sweetness that counteracts the crunching riffs, and that only gets furthered as the song evolves, particularly in its chorus and the ensuing little solo. Pleased to Meet You: The Hobknobs

In unexpected news, there’s a new band made up of members of the Klittens and Lewsberg, two bands that should already be omnipresent in your listening rotation. Of course, if you are a habitual listener to either band, the simplistic approach to songwriting also shows up on this new venture, The Hobknobs. Yael Dekker and Arie van Vliet trade verses with one another, letting their voices ride a quieted crest of light strums, carefully embracing one another with melodic trades back and forth. It seems like this new project is starting off on the right foot, so be one of the few to grab a copy of Gather No Moss from Correct Cassettes today!

King Husky Shares Heads Above Water

I cannot quite explain, but there is something in the voice of Vidar Landa that feels supremely familiar. I’m not sure if that is because I have been spending a lot of time with the forthcoming King Husky album, or if there’s something in the tones…regardless, it makes the listening to his latest single another joyous pop listening experience. When his voice comes into the picture, it’s feathered tone just sucks you into the song’s narrative, almost a shared whisper between Vidar and the listener. A steady roll of drums and supporting arrangement allow for a building of texture, lifting the song and Landa’s voice higher in the mix. The self-titled LP will be out on May 9th, next week!!

Public Health Share F Around

I am hoping that the title of this track is telling us to (F)un around, as I feel like the Fuck Around trope is a little tired. And, if you crank up this song from Public Health, you’re going to have just the right amount of fun to make today a killer one. Initially, I heard some synthetic post-punk, akin to early Blank Dogs, though I felt that came via the structured loop of the drums and dancing of the guitar lines. But, in that, I also hear how Alex Moxam makes his vibe a little different, sprinkling in the appropriate twist of melody into it, lifting the song into what can only be described as a wee bit more joyous and light. Tune in and see if you’re into it!

Sparks Share My Devotion Lyric Video

Through 27 albums, Sparks have continued to provide the world with clever pop trinkets, and this year has been filled with glorious numbers from their forthcoming Mad! LP. One of the glorious aspects of their songwriting is how they can turn criticism or conversation into brilliant ditties. I mean, if you just hung onto the instrumental version of this song, you’d likely be swaying like a palm tree on shores, with a crisp breeze at your back; it’s light and fluffy and nostalgic and drenched in pop sensibility. But, the lyrics ask us to look at why we declare fandom and adoration with such extremes, or at least that’s how I’m hearing it. Figure it out for yourselves, and take pencil in Mad! for its May 23rd release via Transgressive Records.

Autocamper Announce What Do You Do All Day

You likely first heard about Autocamper over here on this site, or so we hope, as we’ve been championing the band for quite some time, but today brings the bestsest news, as the group are ready to finally announce their debut LP. It’s got all the proper jangles, but the Manchester group has their own approach that feels distinctive in its own sense. In the vocal duties, which are shared throughout the new album, you get this businesslike approach, hitting these straightforward notes while the rest of the group dances around with discordant guitars and stomping drum lines, adding in a sprinkle of melodic backing vocals to boot. They’ll be dropping their debut What Do You Do All Day via Slumberland and Safe Suburban Home on July 11th.

SCHOOL Share Gardener Visualizer

We’ve been jamming out to SCHOOL for a bit over here at ATH, and their debut album is on the books for a Fall release, so seems perfectly fitting that they’d have a brand new track ready for us. This go round, they’re bringing out a steadied bit of guitar pop, mostly working with the emotional appeal of the vocals and the guitars, as those are the driving force of the tune. You’ll hear some little drum hits nipping at the mix, but for the most part the softened churn of the vocals atop an angularly running guitar gives enough movement to make the track and its accompanying video work perfectly. Look for I Think My Life Has Been Ok to hit this September via Geographie.
