You haven’t seen enough bands yet? Well, I’ve got another act that’s coming from over sees that I’d like you to keep an eye on, Amber Arcades. She’s making her way over here, her first visit to Texas from the Netherlands. Read on below and meet someone new, won’t you?
There’s been great coverage this week for Austin’s Big Bill…local blog Ovrld and national mag, The Big Takeover added to the band’s recent press run. It’s deserved on so many levels, not only just musically, but in its representation of what truly makes Austin “weird.” Our label is releasing the 7″ today, and it will come with a special prize for those of you that order it HERE (it’s like a musical Cracker Jacks!), but you should also come out to End of an Ear on Sunday evening before the Oscars to enjoy a great set celebrating the band’s release. They’ll go on at 5 PM, and we’ll have the 7″ on hand for you to grab. Trust me, this is going to be a great year for all things Bill…so get a head start with this 7″.

Beacon.
Timing. Getting things uploaded, working things between these really awesome announcements. I am sharing pics from a show I was looking forward to since it was announced. Beacon played The Parish. Last SxSW, I was very impressed by their set at the Ghostly International showcase. As always, the translation from showcase mini-set to full on show is anticipated and welcomed. MOAR.
Along for the tour was Natasha Kmeto with local Soundfounder starting things off. Lovely night for the ATH IT Department.
After a lot of hard work and tweaking of some components, I’m finally pleased to share the news of a show we have going down on Tuesday, March 15th at Nomad Bar in Austin. Beacon was my favorite thing about SxSW last year, I reckon. Ghostly International put on a great showcase at Swan Dive. Now, Ghostly is releasing the latest from Beacon, Escapements, soon and we get to see them with what is being billed as a phenomenomal 3D display of black and white imagery.

SXSW is nearing, and ATH has been working with our friends at ATX Popfest to bring you what we know is THE place to be on Wednesday, March 16th. Welcome to the Jangle! Those of you who are pop fans need to come over to Spider House on that day, starting at 12 PM. It’s ALL AGES, and will go all day and night…filled with some of the best talent coming into town. Here’s a quick list of who all is playing: Summer Salt, Hockey Dad, Pinact, Mercury Girls, Wildhoney, Brothers In Law, Beverly, Expert Alterations, Rose Selavy, Fear of Men, September Girls, Diet Cig, Spook School, Dead Stars, Hibou, Tennis System, Literature, and Ramesh.
We’ll have more details as we get closer, but wanted you to plan on taking the day off to spend it with us.
I met up with Brian, our photographer just after 8 on Tuesday night, a little anxious and a little weary. Low, since the late 90s has been a consistent part of my listening experience, not to mention one that I’ve often had trouble explaining my fandom. But, if anything, I left the venue that night with an expression of gratitude, to the band and the many fans that filled the Parish; it was one of those musical encounters few will understand…but those that do will cherish.

The Villas are a local band that I’ve been following quite some time as one of my favorite acts in town. Today I’m pleased to offer some support for a big moment for the group as they plan to celebrate the release of their new LPLong Playerat the Mohawk this evening. The guys will be joined by fellow locals Wildcat Apollo and Waco band Loafers opening things up. Here’s a great opportunity to get out there and support one of the hardest working, and most talented, bands in town.

It’s Thursday night ya’ll…and that means, at least this time of year, time for you to get out and see a really great local show. Now, admittedly, two of the ATH Records bands, Rose Selavy and Shivery Shakes, are playing, but I’m not just pulling the homer card here. I really really enjoyed the Roses set on NYE this year. At times they had this indiepop feel, other times I felt a Kurt Vile vibe, both which I dig. Also, Typical Girls are making the drive in to bring their dreamy pop tracks to the stage as well. It sounds like a perfect night for all you pop fans; Doors are at 9 PM.
