Listen to New Music from Shannon and the Clams

guantanamoshannonEarlier this year we brought you the great tune from Guantanamo Baywatch for their new split 7″ on Suicide Squeeze, so we’d be in trouble if we didn’t share both sides of the coin, right? Besides, I’ve always enjoyed listening to Shannon and the Clams.  She’s got this soulful voice that just seems huge, whether it’s in the live setting or coming through your speakers.  Personally, I love how the Clams switch to this swinging ballad to a jittery boogie that’s sure to get crowds riled up; it’s one of the many staples of the group’s sounds.  This new single will be released on April 29th, but make sure you get your hands on it early.

Another Jam from Sonic Avenues

sonicavenuesI’ve got to admit that the more I hear from Sonic Avenues new release, the more I know I’m going to get stuck rocking to this release for quite some time, just like their last LP.  If it’s not the guitars, then it’s the way they recorded the vocals, giving them a sensation of being done live.  There’s even a small little breakdown that builds into this burst of pure power-pop.  Mistakes is the title of the new record, and it’ll be out on April 15th via Dirtnap Records.  I’m going to nerd out so hard when I hear this LP.

New Music from Gim Kordon

Gim-Kordon1-750x491I’ll pretty much stand by the quality work of the folks over at Soliti Music, the Finnish label that’s been pretty consistent with releases over the last few years. Up until now, the majority of the works they’ve released have had English lyrics, but not this track from Gim Kordon.  But, that being said, the music alone is pretty special, encouraging me to play it over and over today.  Their debut album Ei Ole Helppoo will be out on the label on May 9th, and if you want to partake in the wordily religion of rock n’ roll, then give this tune a thorough listen.  You can also check out a pretty rad video for the single HERE.

Rock With This Re-Issue from La Peste

Kick off your afternoon with this really rad tune from La Peste.  The Boston band only released two official songs, and the folks over at Wharf Cat Records have decided they’re great enough to release back into the wild world; boy are they right.  It’s got the perfect amount of snarling guitars pushing the pace, and even including a nice catchy nod to the world that surrounded them, musically.  The reissue will hit the streets on April 19th, and if you’re like me, I have a feeling you’ll want to pick this little gem up.

Austin Spotlight: Pop Rock from ZNTH

ZNTH Elevator 600pxIf you haven’t heard of ZNTH while living in Austin, then perhaps you’re living under a really large rock.    They’ve got a slew of influences, ranging from local acts like Ringo Deathstarr to Jens Lekman.  You’ll find bombastic noise elements backed by really neat little bits of pop.  You’ll find these powerful touches on their new album, Yr Damned Zenith, which was just recently released.  The music their crafting sounds perfect for those of you looking to catch a dynamic rock show.  Take a trip through their album by visiting their BANDCAMP page to see more of what the group is all about.

 

Love Me Some Chad VanGaalen

chadhiresThe great thing about running ATH is all the different personalities that help make this site go.  When it comes to Chad VanGaalen, I’ll admit that RayRay and I wholeheartedly disagree.  RayRay says it’s not his bag, and I get that, but I just love the dude, especially this new song, “Monster.”  There’s a bit of a warble in the vocals, which is part of the draw to me; I like that sort of affectation, particularly when the lyrical content is clever, as you’ll see when you listen to the tune.  His new record is titled Shrink Dust, and you’ll be able to get your hands on a copy on April 29th, courtesy of Sub Pop.  Listen to why I love this man below.

Austin Spotlight: The Late Joys

coverMan, I owe a huge debt of gratitude to IPSML for pointing me in the direction of this great Austin band, The Late Joys.  I don’t know where I’ve been hiding, or rather where this band’s been hiding, but apparently they’ve been making great tracks for quite some time.  I mean, the track below is from a free EP that came out back in 2009, but the band hasn’t quit.  They’ve got a slew of live recordings they’ve done recently you can also grab from them.  For my two cents, the band sounds like a cross between Mountain Goats and Hollywood Gossip (a sorely missed Austin act).  I’ll keep you up to date now that these guys are on my radar.

Horse Thief Release Another Hit

Tuesday’s inbox was a doozy.  There were tons of great songs coming our way, but I really loved this latest song from Horse Thief, who we’ve talked about on here before.  They’ve got an affinity for that dirtier Americana sound that we love listening to, which is one of the reasons we spotlighted the group a few months back.  We’re just a few short weeks away from the release of their Fear Is Bliss LP, which is being put out by Bella Union.  If you need some country twinged indie rock, then you need look no further.

Fresh Tune from Turn to Crime

turntocrimeOoh, this is something special indeed.  Today we got this new track from Turn to Crime in our inbox, and it’s a pretty necessary track for you to stream today.  I love the way it was recorded with a really hollow vocal stretched out atop the stomping groove established by the rest of the group.  This is the lead single from the Detroit group, who will be releasing their debut album, Can’t Love, on July 1st via Old Flame Records/Mugg and Bopp Records.  There’s definitely a different sound going on here, which I think you all will take a liking too.

New Jam from Parquet Courts

Parquet-Courts-Sunbathing-Animal-608x608We’ve long had a love affair with What’s Your Rupture Records, and it only makes things better that the little NY label is behind the excellent work of Parquet Courts.  We’re all gearing up towards the release of the bands much anticipated second album, Sunbathing Animal, and the new title track is pretty ridiculous.  It’s a furiously paced rocker, with intertwining guitars and pounding drums; it’s a wonder the band can keep up the frenetic pace throughout the track.  There’s a nice little instrumental breather thrown on immediately following this track, so you’ll have time to rest after pogoing about your room.  Expect a best new music nod here folks.
