In going through all the old emails from this year, it looks like I’ve missed a ton of really great music, like Devereux Scales, who released their self-titled LP a few months back. They’ve got this sound that’s reminiscent of Galaxie 500, at least if you’re going by the song we’re sharing below. It exhibits this deliberate patience, circling overhead with these delighting angularities. They seduce you with their vocal interplay, layering with this slightly angelic backing vocal to lift the tune’s melody right to our ears. And, if you thought everything was all beauty and crispness, then hold out for the latter half of the tune where they explore a heavier sonic stretch. Their self-titled LP is available for your listening pleasure right now!

Say Hello to Tiberius

Tiberius is a band hailing from Boston, who despite their NE location, create this sort of twangy style of Americana drenched indie rock. This track, “Sitting,” will serve as a perfect introduction as it gives off hints of early Centro-Matic with real reverby vocals akin to say Jim James. It’s a lovely track filled with some truly beautiful moments locked within. Dig it.

This track is part of a new full length entitled Troubadour, which was released a couple weeks ago. You can check out some purchase options via bandcamp.

Funny Feelings Prep Under the Pit

As I continue looking towards next year, there’s several acts just waiting in my emails for you to enjoy, like Funny Feelings. This a new project from members of Gross Relations, and upon listening to the tracks available from their forthcoming LP, it seems like they’re in this sort of sedated guitar pop realm. The tune’s are coated in a fair amount of fuzz, though they’re centered around a light bop that would fit into any number of pop projects coming out of the indie sphere at the moment. Their album Under the Pit hits on January 13th, so pencil in another early 2026 buy!

Shintaro Sakamoto Shares Is There a Place For You There

We realize that a lot of cool lists will probably run this week, but at the moment, I’m just starting to look forward to what’s coming out early next year, like the forthcoming Shintaro Sakamoto LP. This tune seems to be a calling to finding your own place in the world, or at least the one that fits each individual person, but its crafted in this spiritual psychedelia that usually accompanies Sakamoto’s craft. There’s this sort of mysterious bend in the guitar notes, akin to what we’d get on typical psychedelic flair, but in that, the tune ends up sort of spinning as these little flutes or woodwind cousins burrow into the song’s consciousness. It’s the best sort of trip, and look for Yoo-hoo on January 23rd via Zelone Records.

Okay, okay. So we didn’t crush it this last week, but I still feel like if you’re looking for a pound for pound playlist of solid hits under an hour, our coverage is primo. We’ve got brand new stuff from We Are Joiners, featuring one of my favorite chorus moments of the last several months. Plus, if you haven’t heard Lola, which I hadn’t, you should fix that before it’s too late. Like me, maybe a subtle guitar pop tune from the New Tigers makes your week, or maybe you want to get swept away in the synth pop of Pet Owner. I’m not sure where to lead you, but I promise there are worst places to spend an hour of your Monday.

Fazed On a Pony Announces Swan

When you think of the New Zealand scene, particularly as it relates to our coverage, you’re thinking brazen guitar pop with 12 string guitars and huge melodies. But! That’s not what you get when you listen to Fazed On a Pony, the songwriting project of Peter McCall, who crafts delicate Americana, not far from off from the sounds that one guy crafted in Red House Painters. The bending notes of guitar feel like they’re stretching for emotion, finding you happily waiting on the other side to lap up heartwarming waters that come through your speakers. His new album Swan is likely to find many a spins on our end; it comes your way via Melted Ice Cream and Meritorio Records in January of next year!

Pet Owner Share FOMU Single

Another act I adore, Pet Owner, is hinting at what’s in store for us when the new year opens the door to fresh tunes; today we’re sharing “FOMU,” which is operating mostly as a low-end electro pop ballad. What I mean by the low-end, as it’s clearly employing the bouncing nature of the pop genre, is that she’ll pull away and sprinkle in these little moments of singer-songwriter fashion, opening the doors to where her album could possibly go. It’s both delicate and luxurious in its approach to synth-oriented pop, so I’m already penciling in her works as one of my favorite things about 2026!

The New Tigers Return

I’m a big fan of Finnish outfit The New Tigers, and they’ve mostly been quiet since the release of their Do Xao LP back in 2018, with the rare single here and there. Today, they’re back with a new single and news that a new LP will be out in 2026. On today’s singles, they embrace a lighter side of guitar pop, though they’re careful to include a driving enthusiasm that bleeds through the distorted riff work. They fill the spaces in between with drifting melodies and charm that make it difficult to pull away from, as if you’d even want to! The second of the tunes is a really beautiful ballad, so I hope you’ll take the time to invest in listening to the group’s latest offerings; look for the new LP via Soliti in the new year!

Morning Pop from Foamboy

We’re almost there friends, and I promise we’re going to all make it to Friday; we’ve got this great track from Portland’s Foamboy. They’re kind of hitting that sweet spot of electro-pop, wherein they’re just on the cusp of being overly amplified, but they hold back so it doses push into pure schmaltz. Think of a Chromeo record, only a little more seductive and built for longevity, and you’ll pick up on the vibes here. This song’s built around a love story that just didn’t quite finish, sputtering out and leaving our lover with nothing more “than a book and a cold.” Step into Thursday my friends.

Adios Cometa Release Luminosa

Lankford and I have always had a special place in our DNA for Costa Rica as both of us spent a ton of time there in our younger years. While I am sure both of us would agree, most the music in the country leaned toward a certain style most of the time, so it’s refreshing to pick up on this noisy, reverb laden Costa Rican band Adios Cometa. The quintet released a critically acclaimed LP last year entitled Nuestras Manos Son Incendios and continue the steady output with this new track “Luminosa.” I love how this thing kicks in super heavy from the get go and doesn’t try to mess about. The screaming near the end is a nice touch too.

Adios Cometa will release this track as part of a new album called Un Destello de Luz which is available for pre-order now via Steadfast Records.
