Wavepool Return with Blue Moon
French outfit Wavepool are offering their own take on the modern shoegaze/dreampop genre, and while the lineage is clear, they bring a slightly different vibe, which I’m always appreciative of on my end. As the track begins, it comes across as one would expect, but something in the way the vocals hit just comes across completely softened, using backing vocals to create a silkier delivery. Then, what caught me was the brightness of the guitars as they shot off into the ether; they take a sunnier tone, contrasting to the genre’s penchant for walls of noise; it’s not a huge digression but one that allowed for the depth in the band’s process to rise to the surface.
