While we were hitting up SXSW, I missed this Kindsight tune…but, on the other hand, I did get to meet the incredibly kind folks who run the band’s label, Rama Lama Records. This new single doesn’t wait too long before rushing forward with precision drum work that encourages the song to playfully skip on while Nina’s voice churns the melody. At first, the guitar line is understated a bit, just hanging back, waiting for its turn to mix it up with the band, which it does as the tune erupts into chorus. This is indeed the perfect morning starter to your day, so you can’t get better than turning it up now. Swedish Punk, the new album from the Danish group, will be out Friday!

Vintage Crop Announce New LP + Share New Video

Back in the earliest days of the pandemic, Vintage Crop dropped the bopping Serve to Serve Again, and as we come out of it all, so too are the band, bringing us the new LP, Kibitzer, this Summer. “Double Slants” is our first taste, ripping right in with these tightly wound guitar lines knifing through your speakers, as you watch a car speed round the racetrack. Vocally, they’re employing the modern trends, but, discerning ears will hear the faintest melody on the ends of the syllables, allowing the tune to roll up and down with those heavy licks. Kibitzer is dropping June 24th via Upset the Rhythm.

Blushh Share High + Album Announcement

You can always rely upon Shab Ferdowsi to deliver catchy pop rock tunes with her band Blushh, and the first listen we get from the forthcoming C’est La Vie is delightfully that! The guitar work throughout this tune holds the tune in the sugary sweet zone, churning with crisp notes until the chorus drops in with this dreaminess that feels like spinning until you’re euphorically dizzy, collapsing on your lawn with a smile. Everything about is endearing and playful; it’s got this natural innocence that’s sure to worm its way deep into your brain. The new LP C’est La Vie is scheduled for release on April 29th.

Blood Drop Brand New Single

Sadly, Blood is the band that Austin let get away (I blame Austin for that, but I’ll save my diatribe on Austin being basic-bitch indie rock for another day!). This is about the -now- Philadelphia outfit and their brand new single, which dropped a few days ago. Built atop a rolling drumbeat and these anxiety-inducing riffs, the song moves in and out of itself, slithering here and there. Frantic and emphatic, it opens up into this beautifully dreamy pop moment, offering up a mid-song ballad, albeit for a brief period of time before squirming in its seat all over again. This is why the band was always so fascinating, as they seemed indifferent to the rules and expectations…so good to see they’re still at it! They release their new Bye Bye EP on June 3rd.

Colatura Share Kids Like Us Video

File Colatura under “band I’d wished I’d seen” during SXSW, but for some reason, it just never lined up. Still, this latest single is all the more reason I feel a bit remiss, as it’s certainly filed under the category of solid gold indie pop. Somewhere you’ll find it right in line behind Alvvays and the likes, with Meredith Lampe hitting a lot of the exact same notes, vocally. I think you’ll also pull back the covers to see a little bit of longing for that great expanse, leaving the light jangling dreaminess longinly roll across the Western frontier in search of your ears. Their LP And Then I’ll be Happy is out on April 22nd.

Jeanines Share Don’t Wait For a Sign

It’s only March, and it seems like my record collection is being dominated by the excellent year Slumberland Records is putting out…and the Jeanines new LP might just be the icing on this early 2022 cake. On this go round, the band sort of swoosh their way into the melody, sort of creating this sideways shimmy that has you pulling off some hipster hand jive with one leg jerking this way and that. The emphatic stomp of the drums punctuates Alicia’s vocal deliver, teasing what might otherwise be deemed a chorus. I love the tempo and directional twist just before the 1 minute mark, sweeping in with this charming refrain of endearment: “you’ll find me here.” Don’t Wait for a Sign is out on April 22nd via Slumberland.

Screensaver Share Clean Current

It’s barely been a few months since Screensaver dropped Expressions of Interest, and they’re right back at it blending their various influences to drop this ridiculously solid single. The rhythm section holds firm to a proto/kraut brand, while the synths and vocals aim to take the song into new territory, though not necessarily aligned with one another in their approach. In the vocals, and guitars, you get this pogo-ing kickstart; it’s a jittery jump that tries to outrun the drum work. But, the synth work seems to roll out into psychedelic realms, blending the noise into this sort of acid washed mind fuck. It’s all rolled into one royally ripping A-side off the band’s new AA side single, out April 8th via Upset the Rhythm.

Papercuts Share Palm Sunday Single

I appreciate Papercuts waiting until this week to drop their latest single, as I didn’t want to overlook one of my favorite artists…had a few things going on last week. Alas, this new tune has Jason Quever and company seemingly channeling their neighboring soft-janglers, The Reds, Pinks and Purples; the sweeping pop sensibility is present throughout, with that Bay Area casualness, though I’ll acknowledge that Jason seems to hang out with heavier tones. There’s this moment, and maybe its wishful thinking on my part, but when he utters the line “I remember you then” or “I loved you then,” the nostalgic leaning has this slight charm that brings a grin to my face every. Past Life Regression is out on April 1st via Slumberland Records.

Sob Stories Share I’m the One You Want Video

Sob Stories first came on our radar in 2017 when they released their debut EP with the good folks at Emotional Response. Now, Joel Cusumano and company have moved over to another ATH fave, Dandy Boy Records, dropping Fair Shakes this week. It’s 12 tracks that mix jangles, punk and power pop into a fun filled adventure with hooks for days. Below we’ve got a brand new video shot by Stephen Patterson, taking footage from the San Francisco area to match up with stand out “I’m the One You Want.” I’m a huge sucker for this chorus though, dropping in and delivering this banging pop moment that I keep coming back to, again and again. Crank it up, bop along…then go grab the record like a good music fan would!
