The Reds Pinks and Purples Share Worthy of Love

While Glenn Donaldson’s work generally circles the same bit of land, he continues to mix up his approach throughout his recordings. When contrasted with the earlier singles from the new Reds, Pinks and Purples LP, this one feels more like a lonesome ballad, perfect for Glenn’s voice. It opens with this quiet synthetic ambiance and a carefully plucked guitar line; Donaldson’s whispering voice settles in too, creating this magical longing. When the piano line joins up in the track, there’s a bit of a momentary bounce, lifting the song, though that, too, blends into the sound as the gentle nature permeates your listening room. Acknowledge Kindness is going to be another solid outing; it drops on April 24th via Fire Records.

The Reds, Pinks and Purples Share Heaven of Love

For some reason, I tend to take The Reds, Pinks and Purples for granted; the band, helmed by Glenn Donaldson, have quietly and consistently put out magical records year after year, and yet, I never tire of Donaldson’s voice. Even for such a distinctive songwriter, the evolution of Glenn’s work is always subtle, at least to my ears. For instance, this new tune keeps the guitar sound fairly light, allowing the synthetic nature to permeate the tune, building this textured groove beneath, then pulling back until you arrive at the chorus. Sure, structurally it’s similar to most acts, but the way it’s pulled off here feels like a refresh in the band’s sound…the sort that should have you rushing to pick up Acknowledge Kindness, out on April 24th via Fire.
