I hope you all are keeping an eye on Winspear, as the label has had their hands in some of the great indie rock coming our way this year. Last week they dropped the new Teethe LP, and today, they’re sharing a brand new tune from the forthcoming Winter LP. This tune features Samara excelling at the trade between the various degrees of her sound, using a grittier jangled guitar line to drive the rhythm while percussive samples echo in the back of the mix. But, then, just as it goes in one direction, the tune pulls back, clears out some of the nuanced noise for a brief moment to build the hook to its apex, then unleash it all again, crashing into the listener. Plus, the vocal work is shared this round with Tanukichan, so we all win here. Adult Romantix is dropping on August 22nd!

Admittedly, you’re probably sincerely tired of hearing bedroom pop this and bedroom pop that, but if there’s one record on the horizon that I think will be perfect for those nights alone with the record on, it’s this new Winter. If you listen to the way it’s set up on the latest single, it’s got a very light stroke, with Samira’s voice drenching the track in this heavy melody that consistently encompasses my brain’s interpretation of ethereal. Every little bit of the mix just works perfectly, and each time I press play, I don’t want to take my headphones out for fear that the magic will disappear. I bet you’re going to feel the same, so be sure to order Adult Romantix via Winspear before its August 22nd release date.

Winter Releases Misery (featuring Horse Jumper of Love)

This new effort from Winter was already high upon my anticipation list for the year, but with their latest single, Samira’s got Horse Jumper of Love on board too, illustrating the draw of her powerful songwriting. Over her last several releases I’ve marveled at how the project manages to channel the softer side of bedroom pop while filling it with this upbeat energy that makes your body respond to every little note. HJoL provides the heavy strum that runs through the track, which for me, serves a lot like the traditional rhythm section, with the notes operating more like a continuous drum hit that allows for Winter to blanket the tune in her smoky whisper. Adult Romantix hits on August 22nd via Winspear.

Fresh Winter Tune + New Album

I had no idea how big Winter had gotten until I clicked on the link to their new video, and lo and behold, it’s blowing up. That’s not why we’re here though, as we’ve been fans of the act for quite some time. Well, Samira is knocking it out of the park, so the love of this tune’s quite deserved; it’s got a little intro here that opens up just after the 1 minute mark, if you’re looking to skip right to the sugar. I am a huge fan of the way she walks this tightrope in her songwriting, almost jangle pop, though equal parts kind of alt-rock, ready to erupt at any moment. Pair that with the sugary style of the vocals, and well, you can see why she’s blowing up. Her new album, Adult Romantix, is out in August via her new home, Winspear.
