Two Days of Far Out During Levitation

Since its inception in 2008 as ‘Austin Psych Fest,’ this Austin-based music festival has built a strong reputation. It offers a diverse lineup of underground, punk, electronic, and shoegaze acts, standing in stark contrast to the larger, more mainstream Austin festival that takes place earlier in the month. The festival features a wide range of underground, punk, electronic, hardcore, shoegaze, and psych-rock acts. It blends established genre titans with progressive newcomers, offering high-quality performances across 11 venues over four days in Austin, TX. The flexible programming allows fans to choose between a single day built around an established headliner or a full weekend exploring diverse genre options across several downtown venues. The one exception is the Far Out Lounge, a short trek south of the city’s center. A venue with two stages makes the location ideal for a day packed with constant action on stage.

Another Fresh Airiel Tune

Just a week ago we dropped a remarkable return from Airiel, and today there’s another tune that popped up over at FTR. True to form, the song’s filled with cascading guitars lines that create an enormous wall of beautiful atmospherics. Vocals are hidden in the back, and on this tune, they almost serve as a textural element for the rest of the band to work around…ebbs and flows and what nots. Fans are really going to clamor for this, so if you’re new to the band, you might want to rush over to Shelflife and get your hands on Molten Young Lovers before the October 13th release date.

Brand New Track from Airiel

Airiel. This is how I like my shoegaze. In fact, it’s not quite shoegaze, though it definitely has one foot in the genre. Instead, they bring in these soft harmonic vocals, touched up by cascading guitar notes ringing in the distance. They fill the song’s typical chorus area with that barrage of squalling noise that’s identified the genre for ages. Honestly, tons of acts have tried to go this route, splitting time between pop sensibility and noise, but I’ve not quite heard someone do quite as beautifully convincing as Airiel. Look for the group’s brand new LP, Molten Young Lovers, dropping via Shelflife on October 13th.

Brand New Music from Airiel

airielPerhaps the best thing about the end of SXSW is waking up to see that you completely missed a new Airiel tune during all the madness. It’s the perfect piece to raise me from this exhaustion, filled with that jangling guitar cascade and precision drumming. This is our first glimpse at the band’s newest work, their first since 2007. I love how it borders on shimmering dream pop and jangling indie rock, even drawing on a cool vocal performance. Molten Young Lovers will be out soon via Shelflife, with a promise that’you can dance to it.’
