Growl Release Wont You at Cheer Up Charlies Tomorrow

It’s that time, the time I hope you’ve been waiting for. We’re finally releasing Growl’s debut LP, Won’t You, today! It’s a great bit of guitar pop, filled with huge hooks and harmonies galore. If you’re looking to pick it up outside of Austin, you can find the album HERE. But, if you happen to be in Austin, and happen to be free Saturday night…come pick it up in person at Cheer Up Charlies! Stream Love Sport’s Dull Tracks

With a title like Dull Tracks, you’d be forgiven if your expectations were low for the new album from Love Sports. But, it’s best if you just set aside some time to really listen to the record you’re going to be rewarded. For the opening three tracks, you’ll find that each offers slightly different approached to the band’s style; it moves from modern slacker pop to indie rock to more of a crafted ballad. The great thing about such an approach is that you’re never bored, and you’ll surely find a different track to love with repeated listens. Right now I’m stuck on “The Boy Could Not Dream,” but that changes by the hour. Give it a stream and find out your favorite before the album comes out next week on Soliti.

Stream Vincent Kircher’s Solo Debut

I’m a huge fan of Jaill, so when I heard that leader Vincent Kircher was heading out on his own, I was practically salivating with anticipation. You’ll definitely hear some similarities to his other project, but just imagine Kircher messing with the structure and slowing things down. Take album opener “Dreams from a Laundromat,” filled with playful island percussion and Kircher’s calmed delivery; you can imagine this being ramped up with heavier percussion, trading the island vibe with jangling guitars. I guess it goes to show that Vincent’s always had a penchant for great pop songwriting. Stream his brand new Am I Ghost LP below, and appreciate that some writers are always honing their craft.

Stream Rays Debut LP

Sort of bored with the tunes coming my way this week, but what I’m not bored of is the diverse listen that is this debut LP from Rays. We’ve written about the band many times on the site, and there’s no reason to stop right now, is there? There’s all sorts of stuff hanging out on this LP, be it jangling guitars or psychedelic swirls, all spun with the perfect attitude. You get bonus points when you can switch between male and female vocalists, never losing a beat. Get your hands on this new LP Friday when it hits via Trouble in Mind Records.

Stream Let Go by Delay Trees

We’ve featured new music from Delay Trees for a few months now, but its time to fill in all the gaps by allowing you to venture off into blissful listen with a stream of Let Go in its entirety. But, stop now if you don’t love listening to really great pop music. There’s tons of touchstones on the album, from modern expansive pop tropes to the intimacy of joyfully solemn bedroom pop. Through it all, Let Go feels like the great Brit pop record that never got made; it’s the sort that walks the fine line between artistry and accessibility, filled with warm tones and melodies made to feel personal. Look for the new album as it drops this Friday via Soliti Music.

Stream Dag’s Debut, Benefits of Solitude

Since late last year, Dag has been pretty high on my musical radar. The band crafts this dreamily discordant rock n’ roll. It’d be easy to toss this act in the bin with the rest of their Oceanic peers, but there are some things that stick out to my ears that elevate the sound on Benefits of Solitude. You’ll hear some little bits of noise, be it squawking horns or string instruments stretched to the maximum of their tones. “Exercise” and “Guards Down” have to wear the badge of lead singles, but while those offer more swinging energy, don’t skip on some of the more subdued numbers like “Company” or “JB,” — the latter sounds a great deal like Tim Kasher. You might even just jump right in with my favorite, “Staying Up at Night.” Clearly, one run through, and you’ll find textured indie rock begging for repeated plays, so be sure to guarantee your listening by buying it from Bedroom Suck Recordsthis Friday

Stream New Album from Sodastream

It’s fair if you haven’t heard of Sodastream, but that’s no reason not to spend a little time getting to know the Aussie act today. They’ve just released Little by Little, filled with careful wordplay and subdued indie folk. It reminds me of an odd cross between Weakerthans and Mountain Goats and Belle and Sebastian, with each note purposeful and each word poetically placed. There’s tons of great orchestration too, adding a layer of depth that builds the album up, giving you a more meaningful listen. Ready to be carried away by words and melody? Here’s the place.

I raved about Terry Malts last year, and this year I’m going to praise one of their other projects, Business of Dreams. I’ve talked about the Corey Cunningham’s side gig before, and while I expected a certain level of greatness, I wanted to be sure you were aware too! It’s nine tracks of great indiepop, some of it dreamy and some of it more upbeat, like my personal favorite “Joyride.” Now that I think of it, “Turning Away” might be another favorite. Well, who am I kidding, I love it all. Take some time out of your day to indulge yourself in these pop delights. Buy it from Parked in Hell.

Stream a New Album from Sun Airway

It’s been almost five years since we’ve heard from Sun Airway, but it seems that the passage of time has perhaps yielded the best collection of songs to date. It seems Jon Barthmus spent countless hours compiling the samples that would create the sonic soundscape of his latest opus, Heraldic Black Cherry. A few songs have leaked previously, but you’ll find so much to discover within the confines of these 15 tracks, including little musical interludes to complete the album’s running. If you’re making bedroom pop, it sounds like its best to toil over these tracks for years…if only they all came out this good. Look for the new album on a limited run from Sly Vinyl just before summer hits. Until then, stream it all below.

Stream Mega Bog’s Happy Together

Having listened to Happy Together for the entirety of last night, I decided you’d be best served by spending some joyous time listening yourself. There’s so many musical touchstones that are pulled off brilliantly that you’ll be forming your new band with a different goal in mind. While it fits easily into the modern indie spectrum, you’ll also find touches of jazz and symphonic orchestration that elevate the album as a whole. For me, the best part of the musical journey is that it doesn’t sound strange or odd at all; it only makes me wonder why more people haven’t adopted such an eclectic touch. Mega Bog will release the record on this week via Nicey Music.
