Stream The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness Debut LP

Just a week or two ago, The Boys with the Perpetual Nervousness teased their debut LP with “Close the Doors;” I wrote about the churning pop magnificence. Now, Dead Calm isn’t officially out until March 1st, but Pretty Olivia Records is already streaming the record in its entirety. If you missed the crystalline guitars of the Lucksmiths, with the occasional power-pop pep, then this is where you belong today. I’ve been playing “Southern Words” on repeat for some time today, and also happy to see that “Nervous Man” found a home on the LP. Dammit, I’m going to go down into the worm hole that is this entire album; join me, won’t you!

Stream This Lens Mozer Record

Sometimes you’ve got to slide into the week, and I can’t really think of a way to do that better than encouraging you to listen to that Lens Mozer album that just dropped Friday. The album definitely has some upbeat vibes, though I love how they’re sort of subdued behind this haziness, like in “Sometimes.” You’ll also find these delightful slow burners such as “Such a Drag,” which really reminds me a lot of Papercuts, crafting this haunting pop vibe. Don’t Stop feels like a collection of really huge bedroom pop sounds, as if they were knowingly written to reach out into the galaxy to make everyone’s lives better.

Stream Heater from True Blossom

We started off this year focusing on small labels and their side hustles, and one such label was Citrus City, so I wanted to revisit the label and their most recent release, Heater by True Blossom. It’s a pop album from start to finish, but one that avoids stereotypical genres. There’s the slinky synth pop of “Me and U,” moving right towards the melancholia of “Grave Robbers,” and trucking forward to the disco-flavored “Heater.” It’s a wondrous adventure from start to finish, and a must listen for those willing to flex their pop muscles. It’s available right now fro Citrus City, but only a few physical copies remain, so you better hurry!

Indigo Bunting Drop Brand New Album

We were really happy that Indigo Bunting jumped on the Austin music scene, rising from the ashes of our faves Tiger Waves. Over the weekend, they quietly dropped their first L,P Clip Show, and boy are you in for a surprise. Opening track “Circus Circus” sounds just like the title, a collage of pop moments layered atop each other in an organized fashion. The whole album has the group at their most playful, and yet the most contemplative; take a listen to “Celia” for a perfect example on that note. You also won’t want to miss the standout tune, “Solitaire,” which might be one of my favorite tracks to come out of Austin this year! It sounds like Animal Collective just hung out with the Flaming Lips getting weird while listening to Coma Cinema…so you know I think it’s a win.

Stream New Silver Girl’s Self-Titled LP

We’ve shared a couple of tunes off this New Silver Girl LP, but now we can share the whole release in its entirety. The album kicks off with heavy, hook-laden riffs, though they’re spun in this atmospheric manner that allows the band to pull in some pop sensibility; it doesn’t hurt on some of the more exploratory tracks like “Phantom Ride.” Of course, a great LP never works if you’re not willing to differentiate, so you get softer numbers like “Tennessee” and “Alms,” or groovier rockers like “Starlight City.” It’s an album that’s all over the map, but in the best of ways, turning and exploring within the confines of these ten tracks; it sounds like a best of rock n’ roll soundtrack. Did You Stream the Latest Ocean Party LP

I.B.O., the latest LP from our Aussie friends The Ocean Party just dropped, and we wanted to make sure you had a chance to hear it in its entirety; should only take about 12 minutes. The great thing, and quite a change, is the band challenged themselves to write 12 1 minute songs…SUCCESS! It has some staples from the band’s already accomplished sound, but there are tunes like “Fallin’ Off the Bone” that illustrate a completely different side of the group. Don’t worry if you feel like this just whets your appetite, making you thirst for more…there’s still a few months left in the year, so I’m sure we’ll get another Ocean Party release in some format! Dot Dash Quietly Drop New Record

I’ve been following DC’s Dot Dash for some time, so it’s nice to see a new record come our way. It comes at the perfect time too, as Proto Retro is a great summer guitar pop record; it might also be jumping into the realm of my favorite LP from the group. There’s a quick poppy punch with opener “Unfair Weather,” giving listeners a slight Teenage Fanclub vibe, then they go for a cleaner almost Aussie sound on the following “Gray Blue Green.” The back and forth between the power pop and clean jangle of heavier indiepop is where the record succeeds; it’s got enough attitude to keep the cool kids satisfied, but just enough warmth to make pop fans swoon. The album is available from The Beautiful Music as we speak, so stream it for yourself below.

Karen Meat and Lola Tried at Hotel Vegas Tonight

Sure, it’s all sorts of hot outside. But, the best part about Summer (at this point, anyways) is that it does tend to cool off at night. What better way to cool off than hitting up a solid little rock show at Hotel Vegas tonight. Lola Tried recently returned from a nice long tour, so you can bet they’re a well-oiled machine…more so than usual. But those looking to get something extra will enjoy Karen Meat, who just recently released You’re An Ugly Person via Emotional Response…and which we’ve mentioned previously. The songs are catchy and infinitely witty…and you might just leave having snuck in one of the best kept secrets in indie rock circles.

Stream Proud Parents New LP

Drawing nearer to the weekend, we could all use a little jumpstart in our lives, so why not put on the new LP from Proud Parents today. It’s 13 tracks of power-pop goodness, both energetic and catchy, from start to finish. The band trade off lead vocalists between Claire, Heather and Tyler; they also all join in on each other’s song, leaving you with an album’s worth of sing-a-long hits that will keep your thirst satiated. Here at ATH, we like to follow the trends. Music sites like GFP and GvsB have their own labels, so we figured we’d do it too! Today we get to celebrate with you the very excellent Please Don’t Stop LP from Austin band Marmalakes. They’re currently out on the road, working hard, winning over the Americas. Here in Austin, they’re the KUTX Artist of the Month, which says a lot about how much everyone loves this LP. It’s early in the day, so sit back in your desk and rock this LP all day long!
