Friday’s, for me, Friday is a little bit of freedom, a little bit of a chance to kind of kick back and look towards the weekend. And, what better way to do that than by finding some sweet records to spend some time with as you so? I’ve compiled a few of the records on my list for today, maybe you’ll spend some time with them as well!

Lots of albums dropping just in time to make the year end lists, and here’s my favorites that came our way this week. I mean, we’ve already raved and raved about Ribbon Stage, which actually came out last week, but I was late on that game. Plus, I Was a King and the Smashing Times both have new records out that should be on their way to my house. No need for much to do, but here’s our faves.

It’s that time of year when singles begin to dry up a bit, and everyone’s already sending us a reminder of all the songs/records we should have covered. But, there’s still great music to be had, thus why we’ve got some real bangers to enjoy below. There’s the expected from Dry Cleaning; I mean you can’t miss that one anywhere. Personally, I think the Melby and Twain records are my highlights this week, so don’t skip out there…especially to Melby (if they were from the States or UK, they’d be huge). Then, we’ve got a few others, including a look at Lucid Express, who visit next week for Levitation. Plus, Paul Thomas Saunders new LP gets love.

There have been some really great tracks that have all led us to the release this week, and we’ve spent some time hopefully supporting the stuff that hits the hardest, in our books anyways. Most of these, other than one, probably haven’t gotten as much hype as they deserve, thus, here I am to be that voice. Well, Friday is here, and that’s a great reason to check in on some cool releases. Plus, get the bonus of knowing its Bandcamp Friday, so you get a chance to support your favorite artists and labels by streaming and jamming and buying! The Alvvays record has been buzzing everywhere, including our site, so we had to include that one. I’m personally stoked to hear how all the new Peel Dream Magazine songs fit together, as it seems like a different sound coming our way…we’re in for an exciting plot twist. There’s a couple other small releases here that we figured might fly under the radar, so wanted to be sure to include a bit of the other goods too! If we’re missing something cool, holler at us so we can be sure to give it a listen.

All three of these acts have definitely featured on our pages over the last few months, and really, I probably don’t need to go into too much detail, as you’re likely just clicking for the streams, right? No biggie. You get some pop rock from New Zealand; the new album from an ex-Constantine, and a record I’ve been raving about all month. Fridays are a good day to sit back and do a lot of daydreaming. What’s better than good jams to go along with it? Well, check below as we’ve got a few things that might grab your interest.

Kindsight – Swedish Punk

We’ve been hyping this Danish band for a few years, and now their debut LP is finally here for all of you to enjoy. It’s 11 songs of creative pop, all tied together by a penchant for fuzzy riffs and 90s rock n’ roll. Brought to you courtesy of Rama Lama.

Neutrals – Bus Stop Nights EP

After dropping Kebab Disco, we became devotees to the church of Neutrals. Well, they drop their new EP today, reminding us that the best punk rock with UK lineage doesn’t always have to sound like Shame/Idles/etc; this is all pogoing, clever lyrics and off-the-cuff exuberance. Via Static Shock.

Fine – Fine

Pop music is always a great way to spend your time, particularly when it’s constructed as carefully as what we have here from Alice Kat and Kid Chameleon. Plus, this is a double album of charming ditties, some with energetic bursts, while others feel a touch more thoughtful. I love how they tease us with mellow bits before dropping in massive hooks. Didn’t really find a lot of stuff that I wanted to run up on the site today, so here I am to let you find some albums you can stream and enjoy today. With bandcamp links, because the band’s deserve the money!

Good Good Blood – The Dizzying Parade

The album title is apt here, as the construction throughout these ten songs take light guitar pop and filter it through this dizzying blend of atmospherics that help you to escape the classic feel of a Friday.

Artsick – Fingers Crossed

We’ve written about this record quite a bit, and watching my kid dance around our playroom while it spins in the background has been a real joy. She only has one move, but its sweet. This record, on the other hand, has 11 rambunctious pop jams to enjoy.

Jana Horn – Optimism

Our friend Jana has the most spectacular voice for your Friday, or your every day. We’ve been fans of her work for some time, and now you can all join in the joys by streaming the release of her latest batch of tunes. It’s such a striking listen.

Kids on a Crime Spree – Fall In Love Not in Line

This is the second album dropped by Slumberland Record today that’s just full of pogo-power; you can blend dreaminess with infectious hooks and smash the pop charts! Plus, if you grab the album, it comes on a cool LP format. Bop on my friends!

The Suncharms – Distant Lights EP

After releasing their debut LP, the Suncharms follow that up with this quick little collection of tunes that give you a new glimpse at one of the tune’s from said record. Plus, that “Telescope” ditty should get you through the day.

I know you all came here hoping to hear the new Kanye, but nah, fuck that guy. So here we are, perhaps wanting you to stream a few left of the dial album releases that otherwise might not make it onto your radar. Most of these are just things I’ve been jamming and talking about, but today is release day, so wanted to be sure they’re on your radar!

Cry Baby – Everything I Didn’t Say (Solidarity Club Records)

This South Carolina outfit is here to give you the slow jams, throw it back to that groovy stuff that got replaced by the beeps and the boops of the current climate. But, if you like your R&B styles with a little nostalgia, a little like those late night MTV jams of the 80s, then you need to be all over this as fast as possible!

Snowy Band – Alternate Endings

I’ve always been a huge Snowy fan, but I had no idea what he had up his sleeve for Alternate Endings. This might be one of the sneaky picks for album of the year; its perfect in almost every spot, and my recommendation is that you spend time with “Living with Myself” and try to tell me you don’t love it!

Slow Rosary – Refinery

There’s so much going on in the world, that it has been increasingly difficult to escape from the world…that is unless you put this Slow Rosary record on. This is musical escapism at its finest; it’s hand-crafted folk opus after opus, built to transport you somewhere entirely magical. Just hang out with this record for a few minutes, you can thank me later.

Friday’s are great days to just get lost in an album, because let’s face it, none of us are really focused on work right now anyways. We’ve got some stellar ways to spend your day here; feel free to just press play and check back in to the world in a few days. You deserve it!

Flowertown – Time Trials (Paisley Shirt Records)

1 part Cindy + 1 part Tony Jay = Genius. Seriously, the first LP this band put together was great. But, they were like, you know what? We can totally do better. And they did. Not a bad track here. Just imagine yourself loving pop music but getting stuck in your best dreams. That’s this record!

BRNDA – Do You Like Salt? (Crafted Sounds)

Why yes, I do like Salt. I also like this record from BRNDA a whole lot. All of you kids that are super into that Dry Cleaning LP, but secretly hoping for a little bit more of a groove have come the right place. This band takes that post-punk/no-punk brand and gives it a swift kick in the ass. Your Friday needs it!

The Suncharms – Distant Lights (Sunday Records)

Having mostly been quiet for the last 30 some-odd years, legendary act The Suncharms recently started to pop back up in 2018, with a couple of tunes for the heralded Slumberland 30 Series. Today, you get treated to an entire record of delightful pop tunes, perhaps a little softer around the edges, but I promise you’re all the better for it!

The Arctic Flow – Lost You Long Ago (Sunday Records)

Sunday Records thought releasing one great was fine, but releasing two in one day is even better, so here we are with the follow-up to Umbrella (2017). Brian Hancheck’s songwriting has always had this incredibly strong emotional pull to it, and it doesn’t seem like he’s holding anything back on this record. It’s like a softcore jangle pop record, certainly built to woo you as your drift into a Friday afternoon.
