Rad Gnar Share Fresh Single

If you have yet to catch on to Austin’s Rad Gnar, let me hip you the group with this fresh track, “Scene.” The group is a fairly recent project, featuring members of Big Bill and Basketball Shorts, so you know there’s going to be a bit of a punk mentality; we’re close with various members too, so we know how important guitar-monies are too, which you’ll hear soaring throughout this track. As I press play again and again, I keep thinking of it as a mixture of early Saves the Day and Alkaline Trio…and I don’t mind that one bit. But, before you pass judgment, take a listen to the melodic break in the song’s middle, illustrating just how much the group have to offer in their sound. You may be too cool for pop punk, but you’re never too cool for great musicianship. Keep an eye out!

ATX Premiere: Semihelix Share Slower Pace

Austin based outfit Semihelix came onto our radar in 2021 with the release of their album of the year worthy debut LP Recoil. Since then, we’ve been anxiously awaiting new tunes from the band and today is finally the day! For your listening pleasure is this new tune called “Slower Pace” which certainly doesn’t adhere to the song title with its short 1.5 minutes of bright, energy filled jangle pop. A true gem in the Austin scene.

This song is part of an upcoming EP due out sometime later this Fall. More info coming soon.

Daiistar Announce Debut LP

To be quite honest, the whole reemergence of psychedelia has worn a little thin; I mean, it’s such a specific sound, it’s got to have incredible songwriting to really stay the test of time. But, Austin’s Daiistar are flirting with mixing in other elements, especially when you turn on the opening seconds of their new “Star Starter” single; it takes on a bit of that old-school neo-psychedelia, adding an element that almost feels like its hitting on those Happy Mondays notes. Don’t worry though, there’s still tons of fuzz and squalling guitars, but that rhythm section gives it this dancefloor feel that illustrates the group pushing the expectations of Austin’s psych scene. The group will release Good Time, their debut, via Fuzz Club this September.

New Single & Video From Tele Novella

Well sometimes we slip and miss things from time to time as we wade through the mass amount of submissions and Olivia Rodrigo emails. Though we may have slipped and are a tad late on this news, we will always find time to boost our own and promote old local friends. Once such local indie legend are our pals in Tele Novella who just released this stunning new single “Hard-Hearted Way” with an accompanying, retro grade video. This band continues to pump out a staggering catalog of delightful music.

This track comes with an announcement of a new album called Poet’s Tooth coming out on October 6th via Kill Rock Stars. Pre-orders are live now.

Night Drive Share Summerwave; Announce Position II

We maybe be known for covering a lot of weird guitar pop and indie folk stuff, but everyone on the ATH team loves a good dancefloor banger, and no one’s been donning that cap in ATX as well as Night Drive over the last few years. This video and song sort of encompasses all the band’s come to represent, with sharp drum work combined with hip post-punk grooves; they hit you with a visual presentation too, so you can really immerse yourself in the whole experience of the group. You can always count on the group to deliver upbeat numbers with darkly tinged corners, which is what we expect when they release their new Position II EP on August 4th.

Lola Tried Drop Don’t Care At All Video

I think Lola Tried are definitely ready to be considered one of the premiere pop rock acts in Austin at the moment. There’s a certain maturity in Lauren and Ray’s songwriting that seems to hold dear to a punk ethos while aiming for much bigger sounds, bolstered by a thunderous rhythm section that allows the song to ebb and flow perfectly. When the guitars pull back and allow the vocals to take center stage, one realizes how they’ve maximized space to play up the grittier bits. And for all the hooks in the vocals and bass lines, there’s still that rad tenacity, maxed out with a ferocious closing. Fingers crossed a new LP is around the corner here!

New Austin Music Dropping Today

Today is one of those weird days where you look through your email and everything reeks of Austin. Feel like it’s our duty to spend some time and give a little coverage to those working in our city, even if its just the littlest bump. We’ve got old friends, old standbys and an artist I’ve just been getting into, so I’ll let you decide which is which!

Genuine Leather – “Tear It Down” (The Animal Farm)

BLK ODYSSYDiamonds & Freaks (Earthchild/Empire)

Ram Vela – “Fight or Flight” (Self-Released)

A Giant Dog – “Different Than” (Merge Records)

Marry Cherry Share Colors Single

A little over a year ago we introduced you to new psychedelic bangers Marry Cherry, who gave us a rad video for one of their early singles. This past week, they dropped “Colors,” picking up on those heavy riffs and wailing walls of noise, sonically tying the song into the track’s title as it encourages you to see that wash of ROYGBIV. Although they bring in the headstrong brand of psych, I love how they’re always flirting with proper melody, giving just the faintest hint of pop sensibility to the layered rock n’ roll swagger they’re pushing through the speakers. Drop in to this tune today!

Jordan Moser Announces Peril LP

If you find yourself looking for that perfect track to whistle through your window as you sit out on your front porch watching the day fade, well, this new Jordan Moser tune’s precisely the one for you. Jordan’s teamed up with one of my favorite voices about town in Natalie Jane Hill, and their duet is set to the rolling drums that move in and out between strums. Musically, the guitars stretch beyond the horizon, just as one might expect your gaze to go as you listen; this is aided by the beautiful string work from Lindsey Verill, building in some huge depth that lets you just sink into yourself. Peril, Jordan’s new LP, will be out on July 28th via Keeled Scales.

The Wild Kindness Share Pay That Price Single

Wanted to be sure we were covering lots of good Austin stuff, especially now that the Wild Kindness have moved to the comfy confines of our fair city after years of running amok in the Bay Area. It seems like a fitting move, as their sound certainly caters to a very Texas state of mind, particularly as the summer sinks into our skins. There’s something in Mike Alexis’ songwriting that reminds me of Clem Snide, though pushing even a little deeper into Americana; it’s got great accompaniment and arrangements to make the song swell, while still operating with clever wordplay. So, we welcome the group to Austin, and wish you’d check out their newest single.
