New Single from Marrow

marrowFriday’s are great for feel-good jams, and I think this new single from Marrow fits perfectly into that slot. The band just announced a slew of touring dates for early 2016, which includes an Austin date on January 31st (at Lamberts). In order to promote their album, The Gold Standard, and their tour, they’re offering up this sweet track. I love how it feels like a very groovy pop track, but beneath the powerful voice of Macie Stewart is a band doing their best to bring out the group’s rocking aesthetic. If you turn the mix another way, this track could easily break through some speakers. Enjoy your Friday good vibes.

ATX Song Premiere: Dream Attics

10012187_700504140062304_4749605522334607763_o (1)Prior to about 3 days ago I knew almost nothing about Austin band Dream Attics and I should apologize to the band and their fans right now.  With that out of the way, I’d like to introduce and hype up the band as much as possible because their music is certainly worthy of your time.  Today you can get a sample of the sounds created with this new single from the band called “Still”.  In a short few words, this is a truly enjoyable bit of dream pop music that is equal parts shiny and mesmerizing.  I’d say we all need to start paying attention to Dream Attics.  They also have some more music over on their bandcamp page.

Show Preview: Wednesday in Austin – Growl, Lunar Gold, Nic Armstrong

austin_mainMidweek Show? Why not. There’ s a bunch on the bill this week…some local, some travelers. Hotel Vegas has Growl and Que Pasa, but I’d also like to point out that Winter is coming in from Cali…and that band was incredible during SXSW (Show starts at 10). Or, you can head on out over to Spiderhouse for a slew of great acts…Sailor Poon, Lunar Gold, Bloody Knives; it’s a night of great local acts that you should already have on your radar (Show starts at 7). Also, those of you looking for something a little different might want to see Nic Armstrong and the Thieves doing their thing at Hole in the Wall (Show starts at (9:30).  I’ll toss out some jams below to give you some insight as to where you might want to go tomorrow night.

Show Preview: Here We Go Magic @ the Sidewinder (11.17)

herewegomagicBefore the show season hits a halt and lets us settle into the Holiday season, we should all take advantage of the great traveling acts still coming to our fair city. One such act, who’ve always done well here, is Here We Go Magic; they come into town to play at The Sidewinder tomorrow night at 6:30 PM. The group comes into town supporting their latest release, Be Small, which has been well received far and wide. It focuses on the gentle building of pop structures within the confines of Luke Temple’s mind, always sounding elaborate and ornate simultaneously. Joining them will be Brooklyn’s Big Thief and local up-and-comers Cross Record; I promise you that Cross Record will be the band on everyone’s lips next year, if they aren’t already. Show is $12 HERE, with doors at 6:30 PM…so you can get home and get some sleep.

Austin Spotlight: Allgood Releases Album

allgoodI’ve really been fascinated by Allgood since I stumbled upon the work a few weeks ago. There’s a lot of easy genre references one could throw out, but I leak to just label it construction pop. Kevin, the man behind the sounds, builds these pop tracks, often layering them with varying levels of warmth, guitars and other added notes. It creates this really broad spectrum of sound, gifting listeners with sonic fulfillment time and time again. The new album is titled Attention!, which might just be a call to people to take note, as there’s something really special going on here. Stream the album below, and grab it HERE.

Austin Spotlight: Stream the Milezo Album

milezoIt’s been a really great year for Austin music, recording-wise, so it should come as no surprise that there’s another solid release coming out of the town to wrap up the year. Milezo just tossed out their new album, Heads on Holiday. Like most things done with the band, the entire listen is a journey. You’ll hear songs of the psych sort pushed in the direction of wistful pop songs then off to lush gazing tracks. It’s never in one place long, offering a lot of discovery for listeners. Take a trip with these guys by streaming it in its entirety below; you won’t regret it.

Did We Tell You About Summer Salt

summerWe’re trying to grow our ATH Records label appropriately, and at the moment being selective so as not to spread ourselves out too thin. But, the latest act we’re working with is Summer Salt, who you should hopefully recognize from their Driving to Hawaii EP, which you can stream below. We’ll be working on the band’s next release coming in 2016, but I also wanted to point you in the direction of their Daytrotter Session, which just went up yesterday over HERE. We’ll keep you in the know on the happenings, but if you’re in Austin, you’re super lucky, as the band will be playing Every Friday in November over at the Blackheart for the local residency…so head that way each and every Friday this month.

Show Preview: Wax Idols @ Mohawk (11.4)

Wax IdolsHonestly, I’ve long been a fan of Hether Fortune. I got caught on her first record, then watched her progression as a songwriter on the 2nd Wax Idols LP, Discipline & Desire. Still, she’s continued to change and grow, and I think her musical triumph (at least to this point) is American Tragic, her most recent album…I’d also buy it for the art work alone (if you’re into that sort of thing). She’s bringing her band and incredible stage presence to the Mohawk tomorrow night. She’ll be joined by Them Are Us Too and Single Lash, with doors opening at 9 PM. I assure you, this is one of those shows you’ll be bummed if you miss, so come hang with us.

Austin Spotlight: Jonas Wilson Pens New Tune

jonasI feel like I know a lot of people about town, but even despite all his various works, I was pretty unaware of Jonas Wilson until the other day. That changed when his new single, “The Bleeder,” leaked out to the Internet world, catching my ear. I think there’s a really smooth touch to the production, providing a soft touch to a song that really seeks to slowly pull at the listener. I’m a huge fan of all the little notes and musical touches that are placed in the background, adding some density to the song. As of now, it’s a one off single, but worth your time today.

More From Martin Crane

martinWe’ve already heard the title track of Martin Crane‘s new LP Physical Therapy which got us all excited to hear even more new music.  Today he’s appeasing our desires with this sweet new song entitled “Gunk of Stars”.  This one is even more upbeat and poppy when compared to the first single (which was hella catchy in it’s own way).  I’d dare say we have a true pop gem on our hands here folks.  Look at Crane, being all accessible and shit.

Once again, don’t forget to pick up Physical Therapy on November 20th via INSCAPE.
