Dancer Deliver Baby Blue

If you were seeking out a pick me up this morning, then you are going to want to get your ears ready for this new Dancer tune. I loved the rush of blood that kicked off with the guitars that drive this tune forward, but if I’m being completely honest, the rhythm section is what completes the band’s sound, musically. They’re so tight that every little speed switch and piece of off-kilter movement just gives the entirety of the tune this bounce that makes it an undeniable hit. Don’t forget that Gemma Fleet’s distinctive voice is an absolute highlight no matter the style, and you get plenty of vocal-forward moments in this new bop. More or Less is out September 12th via Meritorio Records.

New music comes hard and heavy during the Spring months, as its the perfect time to set up summer releases and tours. We tried to get to as much as we could, and grabbed 24 new songs for you to settle into on this Monday. New stuff from Austin’s Variety assures the band is still on the rise in my eyes. I’ve been really into the tunes from Bibi Club‘s new LP, and they throw a plot twist with some English sparkle on it; it matches up well with the dark wave from Houses of Heaven. Friends of the site like Gabriel Birnbaum, Kaspar and Snowy Band all had new work to share with the masses., plus be sure you taste the new Babehoven tune hanging out for you at the end. We will finally be able to hear Of My Window in its entirety when its released next week, but for now, Baby Blue have offered one last glimpse at what’s in store for us. When the song kicks in, there’s this charming bit of baroque pop, sort of Camera Obscura adjacent; there’s an emphatic punch there, almost this direct playfulness. Soon, however, the band pulls it all back, letting the swagger subside so we can all catch our breath together. Here the song seems to carefully churn out little rays of sunlight, bright guitar lines creeping through the speakers before the tune gallops back into its more joyous moments. Of My Window hits on April 12th via Lost and Lonesome.

Sorry for taking off yesterday, but we’ll be honest, this site’s run by folks in the education field, so when we’re granted a rare day off mid-semester, you better believe we’re hanging with our families! But, here I am with hopefully a link to last week to set you up for this week. We covered perhaps too much music last week, getting 28 songs on the mark, and I was super stoked to hear that both Parsnip and Mammoth Penguins were back in business…with new albums heading our way. Plus, Kindsight gave us another sparkling single from their forthcoming LP via Rama Lama Records. I’m in on new Bolis Pupul, so we’ve got that, plus Unwed Sailor have a new release…there is maybe too much new stuff out there! Just take a listen!

I loved the first track from the forthcoming Baby Blue LP, and now there’s another one that feels like a stoned bit of sunny pop. You can hear the sun shining through the structure of the guitar lines, but the steadied beat of the drums keep the track locked into this sedated pace. That crafted weariness seems to perfectly connect with Rhea Caldwell’s lyrics as she seems exhausted by the existence of the human race…and sadly that’s a feeling a lot of us align with, so you find yourself sinking into the song as it chugs along. They’ll be releasing Of My Window via Lost and Lonesome on April 17th.

Baby Blue Share It’s a Match Single + Announce Debut LP

You’ve always got to keep an eye on the Melbourne music scene, as a new band seemingly springs up every other day, and today, we’ve got Baby Blue. The band features Rhea Caldwell, who played guitar in our old pal Michael Beach’s band, so you know the songwriting licks are already in there. This first single is like a Springtime pop tune, sort of wistful and pastoral, with little sprinkling dashes of psychedelia lurking here and there, giving off this mysticism. There’s this really delicious pop moment right at 2:09, and that moment right there sold the song for me, as if I needed more. The band will release Of My Window early next year via Lost and Lonesome.
