Rat Columns Announce New EP + Video

I’ve really enjoyed Rat Columns work since the release of their last album, Leaf.  So, I’m excited that there’s something new coming out from the Australian camp, even though we’re really just getting an elongated version of a previously recorded track.  Still, watching this video, you can see (and hear) exactly why the band is quickly becoming one of the more revered acts around, especially here at the ATH offices. Plus, the flip side of their Fooling Around EP will have 3 new tracks, so you’re bound to hear something tasty.  It’ll get a July 31st via Blackest Ever Black.

Blackest Ever Black Prep Compilation

blackBlackest Ever Black are prepping the release of I Cant Give You the Life You Want, a compilation that’s served by Los Angeles as the background to the songs.  Perhaps it’s the environment of the city, or rather the response to the perceptions of the city that’s led the artists on this album (Cut Hands, Tropic of Cancer, Dalhous) to carefully craft their music, cloaked by the shadows beneath the city’s glam image.  I chose this track from Tarcar, which is broods beautifully, offering a softness that I’m really enjoying as I deliver into today.

Slow Jam from Secret Boyfriend

secretboyfriendredoI’m not sure what all the monikers in the musical world really mean, aside from things like psych rock, but if I were to label something as “dark wave,” I’d hope that it sounds exactly like this new single from Secret Boyfriend.  It’s the one-man project of Ryan Martin, and while the music definitely has this dark electronic touch to it, there’s this really gentle undertone that’s delivered by way of the vocals.  It’s not a full on juxtaposed composition, but it illustrates the varied sound you can come to expect when This Is Always Where You’ve Lived comes out on December 9th via Blackest Ever Black.
