The Shop Window Shares Fresh Single

Figured we’d start off everyone’s Friday with something bright and glittery, and what better way to go that route than a new sweeping pop tune from The Shop Window. As soon as you hear the ringing of the guitars bending carefully, you know that you’re in for a track that’s meant for a sense of longing. Vocals are offered up in a perfect melodic structure, with a bit of punching emphasis on the notes during the chorus. The subject matter itself is actually the opposite of what one would expect from the title “Blues,” as it seems its more of a ballad of appreciation and love for those that can help rid us of the blues. Oh, and stick through to the end, as there’s a nice little powerful rise in the tune near the 4 minute mark! You’ll find this song on Daysdream, the group’s record, which comes out on May 3rd.

Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio / Ike Stubblefield Trio @ Antone’s (9.29.17)

Rarely does the opportunity arise when a living legend makes their way through our fair city. Even rarer when 2 living legends happen to share the bill. Rarer still is the unlikely scenario where both legends are vastly proficient on the same instrument…in this case the Hammond B3 Organ. This perfect storm of unfathomable talent and unrivaled musical accomplishment took the stage at Antone’s on Friday night with Dr. Lonnie Smith and Ike Stubblefield showing in no uncertain terms why they are considered some of the best ever. Strong Performance from Kwesi Foraes

kwesiThis is such a soulful ballad, seemingly informed by the life and times of a troubadour; it’s got elements of blues and folk, sure, but you can hear the road weariness in the vocal performance of Kwesi Foraes. But, what really sells the track is not solely Kwesi’s performance, but the production elements added on, such as the strings, that really elevate this track to next level. Don’t think a single person will be able to find anything wrong with this tune. Keep an eye out for his debut EP, which should be coming our way very very soon.
